IS THAT BLOOD IN THE PICTURE?
I aboustlelty love the new Dread! it looks awesome up close O.o. that and the plasma cannon will go nicely in my type of army.
From whom are unforgiven we bring the mercy of war.
I didn't expect a multi-melta arm since it's so readily available in the BR box, and there's definitely enough bits to make a second venerable out of a BR Dread chassis. No ML or autocannon arm, unfortunately. It looks like we've got everything but the autocannon arm in plastic now, between the standard Dread, this kit, and the BR version.
I'm warming up to the idea of the head being a marine helmet. With a little creative converting, you could achieve a level of personality and motion in the model that you can't get from the standard Dread. It's definitely not the Dreadnought I came to know and love, but different can be good, too. The all-CC Dread with a massive power sword and a giant Storm Shield looks pretty awesome. It's the kind of thing I'd like to see at the front of an Apoc-sized wall of standard Dreads.
I'm sure I'll paint this one sooner or later, I'll post up some pics when it's done.

Yeah, BR is supposed to mean 'Black Reach'... I always forget which acronyms are in dakka's embedded dictionary!
The parts for this dread are directly compatible with the standard kit. The arms on this one go together differently; you build the shoulder assembly which the guns then slot into. But other than that and the sarcophagus, everything on this kit seems to be exactly the same as the standard.

CRAZY!!!!! I love the way it looks probably alot easier to handle/put together than the metal one... honestly at times I believe metal models are just not necessary

Assault On Black Reach, BR, Black Reach, AOBR, Whatever, I knew what you were talking about. It's a little odd that AOBR isn't in there as an accronym. "MODS!!!!"
The new dread looks pretty spiffy imo.
I like the helmeted style.
I'll probably pick one up at some point.

O_o manga?.........what?.......
I don't really see how you can see it as manga cartoony. no offense.
It can look good depending on how you build the model. Like it might look good on a BT dread so it looks like it can really crush them up close.
Anyways this whole kit thing is the suit with how people want to make their dreadnoughts. If you don't like the helmet or not you don't need to use it. If you do not like the human-like cc 'power fist' you don't need to use it. You can really complain about this kit. It gives you many options on how you want to make your dreadnought. I like it.

Definately considering getting one of these to compliment my SW Venerable Dread from Forgeworld instead of a Second SW dread.
Aint it the truth? As it stands, I don't think GW will make a multi-melta arm outside of Black Reach anytime soon. As they see it, why wouldn't you want to spend an extra $60 on their stuff to get one weapon option!? For now, at least you can try bitz sites.
Alas, poor Yorick.

It doesn't come with a detailed base like the regular Dreadnought?
I don't mind though, I'm not gonna get one. But I'm sure that some of you should be mad about that.

Holy Carp !!!! Like the OP, I had originally dismissed the kit with a resounding "meh" but seeing it in all it's included components goodness has completely changed my opinion and opened my wallet to get at least one !!
This kit info should definitely get added to News and Rumors thread that originally bashed the Ven. Dread.

Me and My room mate are currently building and painting a DA venerable for our FLGS, and with the Ravenwing bits box, as a DA fan, this is possibly the best dread I have ever seen! So many different variants and ways to build this sucker!
I'm glad that GW finally put a P.Cannon arm for dreads as well!

This might sound daft but from your pics it looks kinda, well, plasticy....? It looks a bit like a toy rather than the usual standard of model GW produce, is it just the pics? Hope you get what I mean...
Luckily it comes with the other fist option. I think that it comes with the scenic base. If you look at the pics on the GW website it is mounted on the scenic base the other dreads use. I would assume it's the fact the Dread came into the store in the "blackbox" sans instructions, that it also came without the scenic base.

How do the DA Dread greaves mesh with the kit?
Also, what's the head bits' size? Would a standard Marine helmet be able to take its place, or would that be too small?
I'm wondering cause I definitely want to make at least 1(if not 2) DW Ven Dreads out of this kit to go with my FW one.

Any Dread leg greave will fit on this kit, it's interchangeable with any Dread bits.
The helmet size is equitable to a standard Marine, but it doesn't have the standard neck, it's got more of a back-swept nub, closer to what a terminator head has. I'll post a pic when I get home from work. You'd probably be able to fit a DA marine head in there with a little cutting.

All of the Regular Dread bits work for this Ven Dread from what I have tried so far.
As far as how it would look DA, the Cathedral windows you can put over the runic Shoulders work well with a DA theme.
ALSO, I was showing off the Ven dread @ my FLGS , and I took of my AOBRMM Arm to put on the Ven to use it WYSIWIG, and the hole size on the AOBR Multimelta arm is WAY to big. It doesn't peg on correctly, and just falls off. You will need to GS the whole small enough.

And the holes on normal dreadnought arms are way to big for the AOBR dreadnought. Seriously why coundnt they make the holes the same size?
