I've finally painted Brigdis the fluff is at the top of the page.

I'm currently doing a beginning of the year review of my projects. This is the one that will suffer the most this year as with GW's changes to the Induction riules they can only be used in Apocalypse now rather than as allies to my IG. This is a shame as when the 24th Islandlwanda are finished I was considering expanding my Adeptus Mechanicus counts as Witch Hunters into an army however I can't imagine that happening soon anyway. I'll just pootle along with this I'm planning on doing a Tech-Priest next made from Karyl Kartan with several Hybrid Servitor conversions. I'll keep on at this regardless however as it provides me with an excuse to paint something totally different in far more varied colour schemes than my armies.

"Chirax von Grimme has many contacts with the Adeptus Biologis at times of great need when the danger is apparent and there is no other recourse he can summon to his force the colossal power of 37158 THD a Nemesis class Servitor Construct. I have seem this creature rip through the doors of a cult temple and rampage through the heretics within killing them all in a matter of seconds. The brutes hideous strength became most apparent to me on Mydrantis IX when it succeeded in ripping apart the corrupted Astarte who had orchestrated the uprising in several hideous seconds of brutality."


This is the utterly gorgeous Confrontation Nefarius Clone. In my opinion one of the best wargames miniatures ever produced. I'm not hugely ecstatic about this paint job but I'd definitely reached the point where more work would make it look worse not better. The plan is to use this model as a Penitent Engine in 40k and as an end of campaign big boss in Inquisimunda or Dark Heresy. I think it looks intimidating and scary enough to do that job very nicely!

I'm a big fan of the fluff you write for all your models, really personalises them. Keep it up

Thanks a lot Scarper for a project like this it really helps them flow ideally they'll gradually flow into a larger narrative involving the 24th Islandlwanda and Ladysmith the Forge World Its also helped make colour choices and encourage conversion schemes along the way.

For a start I should be getting a game of kill team with some of these guys on Saturday.....
I'll be using Inquisitor Guiseppe Stone (E Inquisitor), Horatio Hawkins (Acolyte), Corporal Bruce Stein (Sage) and Gerald Schultz (Mystic) as well as 5 old Stormtrooper models I painted donkeys years ago.
Arbitrator Smith is another of the Arbitrators recruited during my masters operations against Tziarkis on Wyomas Minoris. He is highly skilled with pistol, shock maul and repression shield and saved my life during a mission in Charanaga City when a cultist bomb went off. I was heavily wounded from shrapnel and bleeding profusely and he thankfully knew enough first aid to staunch the flow of blood and stabilise me until the chirugeons could get to us. He is a dutifully man with the traditional laconicness of his homeworld it does within him however hide a dry piercing wit. He is an intellect and one of the greatest companions I have. Serving the Inquisition as I do there are few men I can trust enough to call friend and he is one.


This model is one of the Black Scorpion Cowboys with a Confrontation Griffin Mace and a Wargames Factory German Shield with various techy bits added to turn it into a suppression shield. The Yellow and Black markings are warning patches inspired by a comment Migsula made in his Legion at Rhisienne blog about warning panels on 40k weapons. It made sense for me on a police shield so I tried it and it looks ok. The scenery is some cheap cheerful buildings I'm making for the local club.

[i]Chirax von Grimmes Servitor Assauit Section are all tireless fighters and a great asset to the force as a whole. This one, COT09, I saw kill a Genestealer Hybrid a prodigious feat of skill. They are especially useful for detecting ambushes although I have the disturbing thought that could well be what Chirax would happily use me for.....Possibly more so as he dislikes my prying as he puts it.

Now heres the whingy Real Life bit. You wait ages for one job then two come along at once. Right I have pending the employers getting in touch with my references (should happen) a job starting in London which I've arranged accomodation and travel for. Currently it's a month and due to the expenses of a 2nd home I'll not be earning much. This might well prevent me completing my new years promises. I also have a job interview with another company for a permament position. This would require moving. If circumstances are right I'll have to seriously consider moving out....This'll be a stressful pain as I really don't want to do it however the job must come first.

Well whingy real-life bit didn't effect this month's pledge I also still have work for another month.....Next month should be easy as theres loads of bank holidays due to Easter and the royal wedding. I'm not going to permamently move to London as the rents too high and the jobs not secure enough. I'll keep it up for as long as I can until more work kicks up closer to home however.
The Grrey Hunters Codex might cause me to expand this list into a Grey Hunter army in the far future. However I need to read the codex first. I'll almost certainly use 37158THD as a Dread Knight......It's not going to effect the general ethos of the project which is about random fun characterful models as opposed to my horde lists rank and file. This week we have another Rackham Hybrid to combat Servitor although this one is earmarked for use as both a Combat Servitor and as a Technical Servitor for a Techpriest when I get round to it. It also uses actual Servitor components I got at random from Ebay.
CAY09 is a Hybrid creation from Hydalberg this combined Combat/Repair model benefits from two types of conditioning and I'm informed by Techpriest Llewelyen that it has two distinct accents and personalities. Its tweeting and chirruping definitely changes in tone when it changes mode.

Well bright side is I won't be moving down side is I don't have a job-the wonderful poliy of last on first off bites me in the arse again. Still as my first reaction was oh if I'd known this I'd have taken the other job I can't complain too much. But enough of my whinginglets listen to Eron Camer whinge instead;

Apparently at this point the master revealed his identity arrested him and put him to a third level interrogation. The result was he was found too tainted to be allowed to live in normal society and was offered my masters normal sign up or die contract. His knowledge is useful and his records and wealth have greatly boosted my masters resources. His desire to set up a college for warp studies is however too horrific for even me to conteplate."

The model is the Black Scorpion Navigator. I haven't done anything to it and painted it in a style vaguely similiar to my Ratlings. The tattoos are meant to be the results of his third level interrogation. In games he was going to be used as a Sage.

Thanks a lot inmygravenimage. Especially the kind words about the painting. I can't really take much credit for the love of other manufaturers once you start looking at the more esoteric models out there you can always find one or two which will fill a nice hole in your collection. Thats one of the advantages of having a good FLGS and a yearly wargames show in town. The fact that I don't plan to play in GW sponsored tournaments helps and price is a huge factor too. For example a 40 man box of Perry's WoTR mercenaries is £15-£20 a 10 man box of Perry Sculpted (probably) GW State Troops is £15. The maths is fairly simple to me at that point. Admittedly the stuff in here is far more random so price isn't a factor. It also encouraged matters when the Beastman book dosn't have models for half of the big centrepieces.

That'll happen when they get painted I promise. If I ever do an Adeptus Mechanicus army thats the route I'm taking for the more esoteric elements at least. They'd work well as Grotesques and Haemonculi as well.

Ohanzee of Kashtar was rescued by my master several years ago. In his work as a Oracle (a bizarre and heretical idea of the Kashtar apparently they disapprove of secretive behaviour an utterly surreal perversion) he had angered a local proctor. He and his family were captured and put to the torture by the corrupt official who worshipped the foul Prince of Fraudulence. His family eventually perished and his sanity departed. My master decided this berzerker had a use and he volunteered as an assault troop being only too happy to ingest any chemical even Frenzon which might allow him to forget. His unshielded exposure to the warp means my master can't trust him and has attached an explosive collar

He's simply Animal from the Last Chancers. This photograph really shows how unflattering the larger images can be too a model he looks fine in real life. Been thinking a bit about the price hikes and resin lately. At first I thought it was a shame GW was stopping doing metal models. Then I stopped for a moment and thought when was the last time I brought one new? 2004. Just about when I found out about Ebay......I've also acquired an online copy of the Grey Knights codex to celebrate the price hike (if I decide to do the army I'll buy the book). To my surprise theres also a lot of Imperial Armour, WFRP and Dark Heresy material available.

Just read the GK background; GK are bloody useless just use Exterminatus it's less wasteful. Frankly I suspect they're Khorne worshippers.......

I think my suspicions are confirmed the 8 Brotherhoods, 8 Grand Masters & 8 Founders and ridiculous disregard for where the blood comes from makes me even more suspicious. Background is "Interesting". Matt Ward is an unpopular author who I find writes better rules than background as it actually seems quite playable. I also have to admit I could probably do an interesting list with Inquisitor Coteaz at the helm (either my current Inquisitor or my Kelian Durnak model would do well). I'm also quite delighted that Death Cult Asassins have got far better. I own with ease at least a dozen from various Rackham models (I already use Dawn Warriors and Executioners. I also have Thallions (both on foot and mounted), Fianna & Arcanic Thieves, thats 17 without trying). I also have a Techpriest and a Dreadknight. The marine elements however would consist of about a half dozen Terminators from a variety of Chapters fielded as a Paladin Squad. The idea is they'd be seconded to the Inquisition like the Deathwatch. The idea would be to really play with posing the multi-part Terminators. I've also finished the final Servitor STJ09;

Hmm got a cunning plan. I may make retinues to represent various Imperial Institutions i.e. Ecclesiarchy, Mechanicus, Arbites as well. I also may expand a bit on the idea of the Conclave.

The more I think of the idea of the Conclave as composing of multiple groups the more I like it. The bakground would have the onclave forming to combat/in response to The Age of Apostasy after the realisation of how vullerable the Imperium is. The Conclave's main aim is to keep the Imperium's might aimed at its enemies and to stop it shredding itself to pieces. Another element would be that the varied nature of the Conclave wou;d make it far more useful in investigation. So what would this require?

"Brother Androcles is another of the Brothers of the Flame of Retribution. Like his Brother Philemon he excelled as an enforcer for the Commissariat before he was seconded to the master. Him and Philemon was seleted as the best of their order after a series of trials. They apparently mainly focused on acrobatics and skill. According to him the hardest trial was the Bay Run crossing the Hangar Bay when the Magcon field was open as it was the first time he'd ever seen an outside. Its hard to credit how naive these men are they have rudimentary knowledge of most things you'd take for granted. It brings a smile even to Jones face when we remember what happened when we explained to them where milk comes from...."

This is my post number 1500. So I'm hoping to make it a good one. As you can see I have Philemon and Androcles done. I also have some more fun for you this is Inquisitor Valeria

She's the Sienna model from Rackham's Cadwallon range with her Handbag filed off and replaced by a Slinter Pistol holster sanctified by a holy relic (an Eagle relic of some sort) to represent the Conversion Beamer. It was Triples this weekend and as well as getting more Kindred for the 24th I picked up some rather nice Steam Punk models from Lead Adventure Miniatures.

Today was a miss as far as photography went....sorry. I've got 6 in this style and I'm planning to use them to form a Special Investigation Team of the Administratum (with a few other reprobates). The steam punk imagery is fairly prevalent with them anyway. It will be an Inquisitorial Retinue in this style. The idea is that these are the guys who investigate corruption, expense fiddling and tax dodges both internally and externally. This is rather dangerous even if the problem isn't serious, imagine asking an unhappy Marine about ammo expenditure (So Mr Calgar the excessive Bolter Rounds the Ultramarines used last month were for? Ah a Tyranid invasion of Macragge? Thats all right then.....). Big archaic plans make it so muh easier to get answers you see.....

Logistar Primaris Cuthbert Rex the 49th of House Rex. In charge of Investigation and Audit Services within the Ladysmith Sector the Logistar Primaris is arguably the most powerful member of the Conclave. People see the Might of the Guard and the Glory of the Astartes but forget that more often than not it's the Pens of the unnoticed Scribes who bring the wrath down in the first place. The mission of the Conclave is as often as not to get the Logistar Primaris access to the records. This sounds easy but can often involve asassination attempts and skullduggery as the wrong doers attempt to escape the Conclave

Just a Cadwallon Undertaker from Rackham with a rebase. I really like the understated creepiness of this model. To be honest the Administratum Hit Squad is probably the idea most unique to the Conclave. He's got the Victorian vibe I'm going for with the squad and didn't need anything really. Currently the squad has 9 men earmarked for it. The 6 Lead Adventurers Steam Punk blokes, Cuthbert and 2 Cadwe Asassins. I might add my Khaurik's Trigger to the group as well.

It's to be noted that five days later he used Grisk as bait for a trap for an Umhockha. Before joining the Ordo he apparently ran safari's until unfortunately for him he was captured by a Khorne cult who were after what they claimed was the most dangerous game. I'm doubtful about this as surely it would be some kind of Tyranid?"

He's the Bromhead model from Black Scorpion. I'm still unsure how I'll use him in games. Maybe as an Inquisitor or as an IG Commissar Lord. The colours are naturally enough based on Redcoats.

Digging them a lot. However, as for the paintjobs, maybe try to keep it down with the ink a bit?

Astropath Klorsman is a native of Dresden a planet noted for its high proportion of psychic mutants up to as much as one in a thousand this has led to a high degree of inquisitorial scrutiny. All Black Ships entering the sector now routinely head to Dresden and there is some talk of basing a full Adeptus Astra Telepathica facility there. Currently there are two major factions debating whether to use Dresden as a resource or purge it. It is to be noted that Dresden has a high loyalty index rating and has produced many capable Imperial Servants. Like most Dresdener's who have undergone Soul Binding Klorsman received a familiar a small black Athena bird called Amalda who has been his cnstant companion ever since. He also received his Bindmetelschwert (Soul binder Sword) He has spent most of his time since in the service of the Munitorium entering service to House Rex several years ago. He has since risen due to his skill at his talents to the personal astropath of the Logistar Primaris.

A straight use of the Oracle f Danu from Rackham's Kelt range. He might als be used as an Astropath in a Guard army.

Sir Tain the Grim is a fore of nature. I have seen him fight without fear in the face of horrors which terrified my master let alone me. He is a grim man who I have never seen smile. He is impossible to get to talk about his path but his dedication to the Ecclesiarchy is huge. He is the personal agent of Cardinal Stearn and has been assigned by him to Confessor Tamerlan the Ecclesiarchy's man on the conclave. This is as in recent years Cardinal Stearn has became far more concerned with the greater picture than the normal peccadillos and squabbles among the church. After the destruction of Aglia it has become apparent that the sector is at a crossroads between damnation, destruction and a Golden Age if Octavia falls and we survive. He believes the conclave are the people most likely to effect the result other than the Emperor himself.

The brilliant Kyrus the Sombre model from Rackham's Griffin range given a TAG Socom pistol. I went with a very limite palette of Black, White & Metal. Unfortunately it didn't photo well But it has ensured the focus is on the model not the painting. Always a good thing with my skills and Rackham's.

"Techpriest Edward Ludd swears by his Welder Servo-Skull Santos. It's excellent at getting into the difficult places ad provides an exceptional fifth arm for him While it is not particularly fearsome looking it mounts a feroiously hot plasma arc welder. I have seen Ludd and him repair a bridge stanchion in the middle of a gale a hundred feet up during a firefight. Ever since I have had a huge respect for man and machine."

I'm really happy with this critter. Bodged together from a Beastman banner, searchlight back, triggers, flamer igniter, auspex handle and sprue this guy was great fun to make. I'm happy with the paint job which I think looks like a well used well looked after tool. The idea is it's a great honour for the Mechanicus to become a machine even after death. I also like the welder idea as the ability to get one to a precise position is vital at times for maintenance. Hope you like him.

"Old Joe is another of the Enforcers recruited from Wyomas Minoris. He was a pleasant affable farmer owning a prosperous piece of land before he decided to join the "Posse" as the local volunteers who act in support of the Enforcers are called. His skill and accuracy during the firefight's was noticed and Pastor Mc Kinley encouraged him to remain with the squad through out the fight against Tziarkis. After the disaster of the rift spasm and the final battle he had to be retained by the master or eliminated. This has hurt him badly and he deeply regrets the loss of his family he left behind. However he has accepted that he's fighting to protect his family and countless more like them. It is from sacrifice's like his that humanity is defended".

"Pastor Mc Kinley was a village priest on Wyomas Minoris reruited by the master during the fighting there. His true faith and fierce knowledge of the devotion due to Him On Earth led him to being a great ally for my master on that unlucky world. Indeed without his faith and courage I truly doubt that my master could have beheaded Tziarkis even with Cy'greddayr's Bane without him. His holiness seemed to manage to keep the lesser minions of Tziarkis away even at the height of the Warp Spasm. I can think of many great Ecclesiarch's who wouldn't show a micron of this simple priests faith and courage. Sometimes I think the greater a priests faith with the Imperator and the truer his calling the lower down the pecking order you will find him."

Both of these guys are Black Scorpion Cowboys with no adjustments. The priest guy was what drew me to the set and I still like the starkness of him wielding his relic rather than his Shotgun presumably in the knowledge that his faith is his greatest weapon against the fiends of the night.....
