Yeah... I like both sculpts but way too pricy IMO. I was saying that we wont do the Thunderwolves, but darnit with all the high priced models out there, I think market is just asking for a well priced one.

Spore pod - 45$, freaking ouch, I cant wait for ours, Navarro is a sculpting master and I want you guys to be happy with the price as well.

I think its asking for reasonably priced ones that:

1. Look like wolves.
2. Look like wolves capable of supporting the weight of a fully armoured marine.

You might have a point about pricing, but honestly, $20 each is probably less than what GW would ask for them if they were made into a plastic kit. You'd be lucky to get a three-pack for $45, and they would probably look just as ridiculous as the Canis model (or worse), trying to kill xenos with it's cute, puppy-dog face.

I think $15 each is the most reasonable price for individual TWC models, but you're a damn fool if you think anyone, GW or an indie, is going to sell one for that little.

The spore however, "freaking ouch" is right. $45 just sounds wrong, especially after recently seeing one for $18 that did not look too unreasonable in my opinion (if anything, it's better ).

I wouldnt say $18 was great, but it was great for the money (saying that I havent seen one in person and I am painting up my 5$ Megablok pods now ).

Tom, I guess that is a go ahead on the wolf riders, I know you have ideas so hit me up on email when you get a couple of them on paper.

The wolves look more like lions with wolf heads than big wolves. Maybe, they'd look better painted, maybe. But definitely not worth that price in my opinion.

I'm so glad I spent £5 on a pack of 10 foam eggs and £3 on more than enough air clay to tyranid them up with. Add in some cable (free) and some twin-linked deathspitters from Carnifexes & Tyrants (effectively free, since it's a worse shooting option in every respect than brainleech devourers, so will never be used), and I'm set...

Well as one the currently competitors, I must say:

Wow!

That sculpt is really good. Pretty much what we started out with in the concept stage, but instead we opted for a simpler version.

But a very nice sculpt indeed! Gratz!

I'm not entirely sure the cost is all that out there for these wolves. Then again, I'm a wolves player. There are a few wonky bits that I personally would replace or greenstuff, but the majority is better than I can do and is certainly much much cheaper than Dave Taylor's more impressive looking conversions. Since I was considering buying 5 Canis models, it really isn't hard for me to pony up the cash for these. If Chapterhouse plans on putting any out, please let us know - I'd rather wait and see what the competition spawns than buy up the first decently priced and attractive models I see.

Those wolves and pods are really nice. I think the wolves are probably at a decent price point; though I would have to swallow a fair amount of bile, I could see myself ordering 10 if that is what the army revolved around. Cheaper than Bloodcrushers certainly. However, I think a 10-15$ dollar point would be better since one has to supply the torsoes.
The pod is probably 10$ too expensive for even me. When something can literally look like just about anything it makes it really hard to justify 50$ for it. It is really pretty, but that is just more than I would pay.

However, I neither play SW nor Nids, so my price points are pretty much worthless here

I already ordered mine. Anything I don't like will be removed/resculpted anyway. IMO, $95 for 5 of them is WELL worth the time I'll save in sculpting my own from nothing. I'll post more when I get my paws on them.

If you wouldn't mind throwing some paint on them and posting a few pictures (maybe just one if you don't have tons of time), I'm really interested in seeing how they'll look.

I have been searching for correctly scaled wolves for awhile now, and those are the best I have seen outside doing alot of GS work on Canis' mount like someone posted pics of. The only decent sized one I could find was the Wolf from a Storm Shadow GI Joe. The problem there was the wolf would only be one pose and hard to adjust.

I am playing Lazerback/Longfang spam for Ard' Boyz so I can hold off awhile or at least until more sculptors come out with comparable models. However I think almost all SW players want at least a unit of these in the long run so the demand should be there. I think the price range is going to end up within a couple bucks ($16-20) no matter who is casting it though. You got Saddle w/ Feet+Stirrups and all the Fur going on so needless to say it is not going to be the easiest sculpt.

Chapterhouse has done some really good sculpts so far so I think it will be worth the wait to make the comparison if they intend to make a mold soon.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

Ok, just for comparitve purposes, here is a source for $9.00 wolves. If that's a standard cav base that it's on, then it's fairly good sized. Don't like the sculpt? Then be prepared to shell out the $20 necessary to get the higher quality work, as that seems to be the price point these days.

Personally, I'm going to get these as a) I'm a cheapass, and b) I actually like the look of them (i.e. close enough for me).

I went with these as well, as I'm not all thumbs with a sculpting tool or a paintbrush maybe I wasn't intimidated by the "Static"-ness of the pose. As the dudes over at Armorcast won't be in to ship till the 29th I'll have to wait, but once they come in I'll do a review and post some results.

After reading this thread , I feel compelled to add in my thoughts on this subject.

I see a lot of desperate people whenever TWC models are discussed. I know because I was there myself--D&D wolves, GI Joes, Heroclix, Russian sculpts off eBay, 5 for $90 sculpts, multiple Canis models, worgs, orc chariot wolves, etc. These models are all flawed in one way or another imo.

People either settle for something with ridiculous aesthetics or throw money at the problem. Can you really be all that happy with 5 TWC- Canis models in the exact same pose? There is another option that is too often passed over. Model your own.

I was a complete beginner at greenstuff when I attempted to make may own TWC. Go slow and its not that hard. The results are worth it. It's affordable, offers varied posing possibilities, and uses GW parts so they are legal in tournaments. This is the best option, why settle for less?

I put up my blog in the P and M blogs section partly because I wanted to show people that you can realize you vision of an army, even if it requires skills you don't have at the start. True scale space wolves exceeded my ability but nonetheless I'm getting better and enjoying it. You actually improve by challenging yourself. Try it and see. If you have any questions about modeling TWC leave a comment and I'll help if I can.

Brilliantly well sculpted. As a hockey nut I wasn't a fan of the stylized Upper Deck vinyl figures because I'm a big fan of the McFarlane style sports figures. I know they were going for the stylized look but it isn't my thing. So it's interesting to see that this same sculptor was responsible for those figures.

Got my T-wolves yesterday and all I can say is WOW!! Awesome sculpts, full of detail with a minimum of clean-up neccesary before assembly (why can't FW get it right?!?). I'm really looking forward to putting some paint on them & can't reccomend them highly enough to anyone looking for T-wolf cavalry models! I'll post some pics as soon as I get them finished.

I'm not really sold on these wolves... they're a little 'cute' for my tastes. Although they do admittedly fit in well with Canis's mount (which I also don't like).

The pod is great, though. Spikey goodness.

I saw some painted up at Adepticon yesterday. Very, very nice. They scale very well to the Canis model. I'm seriously tempted to pick some up. I'll see about posting some pix when I get back home...

But they look impressive, indeed.

I received my "wolfpack" yesterday and they are very good. Some of the mechanical additions might not be to everyone's likings but the models are very impressive
and masterly sculpted.
There is some slight cleaning-up to do due to some casting"thingies" .
In size these models are much larger than the maxmini wolves (which have been demoted to fenrisian wolves as we speak) and take up a 60mm base with ease.
(Think juggernaut size and then some for the rider...... )

Only the riders legs are a bit to plain for me, so I will replace them with those of my own.

Oh, and one of the models must have a working teleportdevice implanted because the parcel took about 5 days to travel from the US to the Netherlands

I just got mine yesterday too, amazingly quick turnaround (I ordered Friday night, got them Wednesday). The models look great. I can see doing a bit more greenstufing of icons and regular '40k' bits that might have been pushing it a bit to include.

The models look much ncer in person than in the pictures.

Nice!

I just finished putting my set together. They are of a lower casting quality than forgeworld. A handful of bubbles on each model and lots of sprue attachment points. The resin is really easy to work with to resculpt over the palce where you cut the sprues away though.

I pinned the tails on and filled in a (very) few gaps where the legs and tails join.

I'm impressed with the sculpt quality and look forward to having time to get riders on them and actually paint them.

They are BIG too. You really don't appreciate the size until you have a rider on them.
