The fact that there have been major earthquakes in countries situated on top of whacking great fault lines is not particularly surprising; they may seem more inter-linked purely because we are all so well connected to each other these days (bless the Interwebs). I'm not a geologist, but i would imagine it is possible that the recent Quakes are somehow linked together, one causing another etc...

The LHC is just an interesting science experiment and is a bout as dangerous an Newton bouncing apples off his head to prove the theory of gravity.

The FEMA thing looks semi-plausible but then so do many, many other conspiracy theories out there.

Like I have already stated. So what I am trying to convey, is that despite my DISBELIEF in the myth, I am still intrigued by the timing of all of these things!

The fact that there have been major sequential earthquakes on a major fault line a short period of time is VERY alarming. What cave are you living in? http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsww/ http://volcanoes.usgs.gov/yvo/activity/ http://www.earthmountainview.com/yellowstone/yellowstone.htm

Your statement on the LHC leads me to beleive that you either have not read enough information about what exactly it is doing, and how we really don't know what the feth is going to happen when it actually starts working correctly, that you are catastrophically ignorant, or that you just don't care and are adding your opinion to the matter for the sake of argument. I don't really understand how you can have such a firm opinion on something that even tens of thousands of experts don't have a firm opinion on. We have no idea what new and possibly dangerous sciences and technologies will come of this...don't be so blasé about it, because it will more than likely come back to bite you in the ass....rather, bite ALL of us in the ass.

The FEMA thing is something I have been tracking for quite some time...a lot of it is far fetched...untill I went I did some wannabe recon work with my 300 millimeter zoom and some Nikon Binocs......what ELSE are they for?

I am presenting a firm opinion because it is far more useful in a discussion than a flimsy one. I believe we are in no danger from the LHC and i am using what i know about it to back that opinion up. As for where my knowledge comes from; let's see.... It could be from the Physics Degree I'm currently studying or it could be from the friends i have who spent 3 years of their lives doing doctorates on particle physics at the BaBar detector in California (which was the worlds biggest particle accelerator until the lhc opened). Does that make me qualified to have an opinion in this discussion? Or should i come back when I've got a Nobel prize?

So your Government has come up with a contingency plan in case you suffer some kind of disaster and you think it's worrying?! Do you find the fact that they built hospitals in case you have an accident worrying too?

Yellowstone National Park is in a region of active seismicity associated with regional Basin and Range extension of the Western U.S., as well as youthful volcanism of the Yellowstone volcanic field. Pressurization due to crustal magma bodies of the Yellowstone hotspot and associated shallow geothermal reservoirs can also contribute to earthquakes. Scientists will continue to research the origin of these and other Yellowstone earthquakes

Thought you referred to the events in Hiati and Chili. silly me!

don't worry mate- it's what happens in places like Yellowstone.

First off, you are the one dismissing my point like they are childish meanderings.
J.Black wrote:I think what you're doing is taking events around the world and mis-interpreting them in order to fit the idea that there is some big coalescence coming in a couple of years time.
I am just calling you out on your confrontational tone, man. So chill. And if its a classic internet text mis-interpretation..then..pffft sorry.

As far as the LHC goes, good for you, you most definitely have a larger knowledge base than myself...but this is where I'm coming from...

The research, reading, and interest I have put forth into this subject, would be completely valid in an Ivy League college for a thesis paper, so don't blatantly insinuate that what I am saying is nonsense. I am not a fear mongering conspiracy theorist in my mother's basement constantly thinking Obama's Nazi Youth Zombie League (wtf? lol) is gonna get me and hoping Alex Jones will come in and save me from them in the ship from Flight of the Navigator...

I generally dismiss most conspiracy theories as rubbish...

@IG_Urban: First off, apologies if i came over all confrontational. This was not my intention and I suspect that the force i was putting into my opinion made it seem that way. What could be seen as more confrontational were your implications that I 'Live in a cave' and am 'Catastrophically ignorant'. Was there really any need for you to make either of those assertions?

I didn't dismiss anything you said as nonsense/childish meanderings. I merely replied to your opinion with an opinion.

I'm glad that you take such an interest in the LHC; people who have a passion for science are very rare these days, almost as rare as government funding for our projects and research! When the people in charge of the project say 'we don't know exactly what'll happen' they are referring to the results of the experiment and whether they will match our theories or cause us to have to come up with new theories.
The danger of creating something outright dangerous like strangelets is so vanishingly small as to be dismissed out of hand.

You have stated a couple of times that you find the confluence of events intriguing. Fine. The earthquakes are a legitimate, recorded fact that require further investigation. The LHC and the FEMA camps are however wild conjecture and shouldn't really be classed in the same manner.

Just to make it straight, i understand that you do not believe we will all be raptured away in a couple of years time, merely that you find the confluence of events intriguing. I think it's all a lot of nonsense propogated in order to keep a bunch of work-shy conspiracy theorists from having to get off their backsides and find a job.

From what I have heard, around the "Doomsday", there is allegedly going to be major sun activity. Extreme solar winds, plasma shooting at the earth like noones business.

I have an app on my Iphone that shows me a live feed of sun activity, maybe I can see the end of the world on there

As for the LHC, im EXTREMELY excited for that big boy to kick in. The results could scientists unlock answers to some of the most head scratching questions that science has. But I suppose you have to be into those types of things to get excited about it. Im more excited about the LHC then Christmas every year.

Can anyone confirm if the Mayan calendar would be able to tie in with sun spot axtivity. Have a vague recollection of some such.
Tried google but got reams of doomsday doodoos.

According to one site a comet is going to crash into the sun causing the solar flare.

I believe I heard this on the science channel, or on National Geographic channel on "Naked Science". I don't believe a comet would cause sun flares. Comets hit the sun regularly, and will most likely burn up before they hit the ''surface" of the sun.

But here are some other sources.

http://www.universetoday.com/2008/06/21/2012-no-killer-solar-flare/

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2006/10mar_stormwarning.htm(scroll to about mid page)

It will be the end of part of the suns cycle. The "solar maximum". Though a solar flare will probably not kill the earth off. In one of the worst cases, it would simply knock out electronics on the earth (don't think ALL electronics, but probably whichever side of the earth is facing the sun.).

So hell, maybe a huge EMP will occur, drop electronics in the super powers of the world, and possible wars could occur during the electronic blackout? Or maybe the world will become enlightened by loosing electronics, or something to that extent. I guess well only know on Dec 26 2012

Yeah well as hard as I try to not be a smartass when I am discussing things it comes out at times so I am sorry. (but not for the post quoted above you). I am just used to people automaticly going in to shut down mode and calling me a kook for even bringing things like this up.

As far as the LHC thing, it went something like this... BBC.CO.UK is my homepage, my friend was over and we were painting some squads, and I was like "oh lol, the LHC will shut down for a year at the end of 2011 for repairs", "oh rly?" replied my friend, "ya rly", said I. "Well that is kind of weird that means it will turn back on at the end of 2012, isnt that when all that 2012 gak is happening?", "yes ZOMG! weird!".

I just thought it might be cool to see what other people think, and instead I got a bunch of people calling me crazy and being kind of rude...I would have thought that this site, having the rules it does, I would have gotten a little bit more polite a reply, rather than something worthy of Honda Tech or 4chan..

I am very interested in science, and not studying it in school is merely a ramification of my hatred for doing math. So I read all I can, research all I can...you know. The LHC scares me the way getting abducted by aliens scares me....my arnold-schwarzennegger-circa-Terminator-1-sized imagination runs wild...can't help it. I know it's not real, but I imagine what COULD happen...
