Ha, terrific. I hope you did a victory dance as he flounced off.

My friends and I usually call a game if it's say turn 4 or 5 and one side is clearly going to win. It just lets us start the next game sooner!

I have never quit a game due to any sort of misbehavior, but I try to be somewhat choosy in who I play so I avoid tools and therefore avoid their bad in-game behavior.

I am moving pretty soon though, so I'll be suffering through a few TFGs at my new FLGS before I get a feel for the crowd.

Had a tournament game against a guy once who kept delaying starting until we only had about 30 mins to get it done. managed the first turn then his mum turned up ...... Great!

Once had a game against a friends vanilla SM army. He quit before I'd finished my first shooting phase and all I'd done was disable his whirlwind.

Ages ago, when Tau were still on their first book. It was the first round of a tournament, and my Hormagaunts got a first turn charge on his Tau infantry gun line. He surrendered the game right there, before any HtH rolls were made, and before he ever even took a turn.

I have never been quit on and I do not quit on principal. If I am loosing badly, I just say heck with it and try out some new tactics or try to learn/ have as much fun as possible. To be fair, I have never played in a tournament before, so I'm assuming that this would be different.

Some of your stories are so much more peculiar than mine, colors and figs are ' :O ' .

I just wish I could describe this kid, it makes my skin crawl, he turns up, is such a nice guy, until it's game time and then it turns into some sort of mission he is on to win. Like, some sort of Napoleon of plastic army men.

Me and a friend of mine actually concede to each other all of the time. Usually about turn 4-5 of these games we see who the winner is going to be and just reset.

I did concede a game that I am sorry I started. We were just hanging around the LFGS [This was back in late 3rd or early 4th] hoping to get a game in and I finally got someone interested. I told him I would like to try a quick game [I think it was about 1,000-1,500 points] so I can practice with teleporting with my Terminators. He pulled out this Eldar force. I deployed an HQ and 2 Tac Squads in cover and put my Terminator Squad(s) in reserve. He pulled some sort of Eldar power out and just eliminated all of my units on the 1st turn. I went “OK? This was a bad practice, Do over?” He replied “I don’t ever practice, you should just be better in the future.”

Of the few games I've played, nobody has lefty, but one kid was just unable or unwilling to focus on the game. It got ridiculous, to the point where I had to yell at him or poke him with my tape measure to get his attention. He even went to the LGS owner, midgame, to order a model. We finished the game, but I was nearing the end of my rope.

The only I ever quit is when I know I'm going to phase out after his turn is completed. Aside that, I've had a guy walk out on my game when Kharn destroyed a space wolf scout squad that outflanked and failed to kill him with their meltas. He said that it was all the main goal of his plan and if Kharn didn't die then I would win no matter what. I'm still confused as to what the hell he meant to do with the rest of his army if such an event occurred.

Ive never quit a game, no matter how hopeless the rest of the game is. I think its disrespectful to the other player to deny them a real victory.

I have had a guy just up and leave once. A couple times people have forfeit because of a good first couple turns of ass kicking. It just bugs me when someone says ok you win. Let the damn game play out people!

If I'm getting smashed then I call the game. If it's REALLY OBVIOUS that as a Tau player I'm not going to pull this one out of the crapper no matter how much I try... GG. I have better things to do than act out the death throes for someone else's pleasure.

Also: totally cool with someone doing this exact same thing to me. It allows us both to get in more games that night.

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

I do agree to a point. Generaly when it get down to your army is untouched and Have 2 Half sized squads left, I ask "Do you want to call it here or finish?"
If they want to finish it I will.

In my opinion, even if you know your going to lose (and let's face it, losing sucks) it doesn't mean that you can't get a few small victories such as slaying their HQ/key unit (more win if it's something like Mephiston, a C-Tan or a monlith). At the end of a game like that, who cares if you didn't win, you destroyed his monolith/equivalent. Going out in a blaze of glory is always cool in my books.

I agree with you completly.

Whether im the Losing or Winning player I always like to see the game through to the end becuase i enjoy the game so much. If your strapped for time, ending the game early Is a understandable move.

No, because if I can get those two half-sized squads to go to ground on an objective, that's a draw or win right there. And no matter how "hopeless" a situation, dice can produce the most outlandish results, and I find these nail-biting situations are the best experience for future games.

I have only quit once after the following sentence was used for the fourth turn in a row:

'Chaos Space Marine Boltguns are AP2 as standard'

I had run out of ways of telliing the guy he was talking BS so said if he wanted to play that way he should find someone of his own mental ability to transend RAW.

Back in the UK and hating it

Sounds like some of you guys have to play with some real *holes! :(

Good sportsmanship means you should play on even if you're getting creamed. (Not counting mutually agreeing a game is not worth playing on and ending early). Some of my best games have been playing back from a really bad position.

The funniest game I got Quit on was a 5000ptsApoc. Game with 2 players per side.

I had 3000 IG and the other guy on my team had 2000 Space Marines.

We were against one guy with 1500 Chaos and 1000 Necrons (3 monoliths inc.) and another with 1700 Daemons and the rest of necrons (2 monoliths inc.).

They got phased out on the first turn together which left us with 5000 imperial troops and them with 3200 assorted chaos. The straight chaos guy packed up and left the game while the Daemons guy stayed when we said we would half our force because of the other guy leaving.

Okay, I've been on a bit of a hiatus 2011-14

I'd have suggested suspending phase out - its a PITA in Apocalypse games!

I've wanted to quit a number of times, mainly WHFB where a cheating ass DoC player kept "accidentally" moving 7" with his Daemonettes....amongst other things. But I dont - I know how frustrating it can be. I also try to stop people quitting on me, as I've seen far too many games seem to go badly fro them at the start, only for me to pull out a Loss against the odds

I've had people up and quit on me but it's not usually out of the blue, at least if you know what to look for. Most of the time it's against someone with a gimmick list or some uber unit who sits down full of piss and vinegar about how their little rules exploitation list or OP unit is going to wipe you out. Then you start to hand them their ass and they storm out in a hissy fit. 9 times out of 10 it's one of those guys. Rarely have I had anyone who seemed decent enough just up and leave.

...urrrr... I dunno

I prefer never to throw in the towel, as there's always some fun to be had in being a tenacious foe, even if you lose. That said, should someone start cheating or being a general jerk about the game, I will often be tempted to pack up and leave. Hasn't happened yet, as the gaming community is generally pretty good in my area, but it has been close sometimes.

Someone once quit on me on a 48"x24" game, he had 2 marine squads and I wiped one out with outflanking stealers on turn 2. Premature, but I suppose It was a fair forfeit.

Is it better to forfeit when things are looking awful? I've had my ass given to me a number of times, but I won't leave until it's over, usually so as not to look like a bad sport. Is this annoying?

Ask your opponent. If they want to keep going and see what crazy things will happen, then you can do that. Otherwise quitting means you can go again.

I rarely quit, even when the cause might be lost. Seen too many bizzaro dice rolls to believe that any cause is ever truly lost.

Besides, would the SoBs ever quit a battle? I think not.

Exactly this. I remember a game playing with chaos once(4th edition) Where I was pretty much just owned. I played an incredibly fluffy army where all the Aspiring Champions had to have powerfists(they all carried huge hammers for counts as). So it was obviously rather pricey and didnt always win me alot of games.
Anyways I remember one game where all I had was my Lord and a champion, against 3/4 of the SM army. Those two guys finished the game, and alone destroyed some rhinos, and killed the crews inside the rhinos. The rolling was just insanely awesome. I felt like I was cheating they were so good lol. I still lost the game, but just seeing those two completely beat the piss out of all those SM was very satisfying

If I am just destroying someone and they want to concede, I agree and then just ask if they want to play it out for fun. At that point, abandoning objectives or whatever and going in to slaughter each other off.
