I was playing a game today VS a Tau player and when I shot some lascannons into his Broadside unit with shield drones he tried to do it without using wound allocation. I told him he had to declare who he was making the saves on, he said I needed to show him the page of the rulebook that said so, so I referred him to the appropriate page.

He then tried to argue that he didn't need to because the 'drones aren't an actual model.' I said they were because they had a stat line. He then said 'FINE YOU WIN' and packed up his models, went out front and called his mom and went home.

Anyone else ever had this situation?

Called his mom... that should tell you all you need to know. Never play with kids if you are older than 18... unless they are your own.

Similar i guess , in my LFGS there was a Khorne player , he was using dual DP with some sort of Glaive. In the store he was considered WAAC player , so the others told me to gear my army to destroy his list.

So i brought my Eldar army with 9 vyper all star cannon , 6 war walker all star cannon, rest are guardians with bright lance.

He left after turn 2 because i killed off all the units he has that can move more than 6 inches. So now he have infantry trying to catch my vypers while not getting killed by warwalkers

It has happened twice to me:
1. I travelled a far distance to get 1 or 2 games in from a small group, first went down fine and had a ball doing it. Found a second opponent (it happened to be TFG), he asked me to a game, I was up for it. He starts deploying and then I do the same, however some of my models werent fully painted. He told me to take them off the table and only use fully painted and based models, I said bite me. So he just packed up and left for home.

2. I picked up a game with a Choas Daemons player, who I was told is a dirty cheat and dirty player. So I used my orks with ghaz (had to borrow him off another player to teach this guy a lesson). I maxed out my troops and 1 weirdboy and 1 dread. Got a waagh on first turn thanks to the weirdboy (now were playing on the long edges) so i spread my boyz out now covering 2' of the 4' long board. His first wave landed and did some damge. My second turned call a waagh from ghaz 6" auto and managed to cover the whole table with orks and kill his first wave. He started crying at me that he couldnt get his second wave on and became a sweary mary. We never saw him again after that

22 and still called his mom to go home?

ummm...yeah, then you shouldn't play with kids.

I mean everyone can have a hard time when the economy is bad, but I would NEVER ask my mom to drive me to a toy soldier game when I should be working or looking for a job.

This has happened to me once too. I was playing a doubles game and I was using my DE and decided to do a webway army because a doubles game is a perfect opportunity to sneak a couple webways up close when screened by another army. The other guys were playing guard each and my partner was playing eldar. I ended up putting down 2 webways on each side of the board in the middle and so had free range anywhere on the board, but my partner as you can imagine was getting pounded by the guard weapons. All he did was complain, but by turn 3 nearly my whole army was out and kicking butt. By turn 4 he was mad at me because his army was nearly shot to death while mine was winning the game with barely any losses. (not that badly though, he only lost about half his army by turn 3 in a 200o point game, but still had several units still on the board) and packed and left. I said it was just a game and we were winning and that he was doing great with what he had, but he was just that type of guy I guess.

I feel bad for ya OP. It was probably for the best though. With a dude like that, prolly best it ended as fast as it did. You dont want that crap to linger.

I hope ya managed to get another game in with someone else. Atleast to end the game day on a good note.

Nah, it was actually my last game of the day. But I appreciate the wishes.

It's getting super-frustrating as a game like this is only as strong as its local player base. And mine is terrible. The only people worth playing with are all into Magic more than this game, and the only die hard 40k'ers are annoying and terrible, along with the fact they barely know the rules and they get SUPER mad when you correct them.

I can't find a game at all vs. stand up people.

I've forfeit a few times, but only when all hope was lost and I knew I was going to lose without a chance. I don't think I've ever played against somebody who upright picked up their models and left just because I corrected them on a rule though.

When tables are in short supply I'd say its poor form to fight a foregone conclusion out past the 4th or 5th turn if it's pretty clear what the result will be.
That being said, I do hate it when players lose a favorite unit and quit. I once wore down 5 terminators to nothing in a single shooting phase (2nd turn) and the player packed up then and there. I'd call that poor sportsmanship.

Hmm I've never had someone quit on me, but I've quit on other people a few times.

I have however thrown in the towel a few turns early since its wasn't even a forlorn hope. In those cases though if it's quiet I ask for a rematch

I've conceded before. 'One raider with the DL shot off and a squad of 4 warriors' does not make a winning army when your opponent still has 2 tac squads, Mephiston and a furioso on the table. Sure, I could have zipped about and tried to contest an objective but wasn't going to get more than him, I couldn't touch the furiso and with Mephiston on the board I couldn't stop to shoot without getting caught. Similar situations a few other times.

I've ended up getting a crash course in exactly what a SoB army does and unit synergy before a rematch, though. I managed to maul slightly more of his army and last a turn longer before getting annihilated. >.>

Yes, but that was because my opponent had a painful migraine by turn 2, so he conceded, and that was in a tourney...felt sorry for him...things like that do happen...

I believe there is a difference between "tapping out" or conceding since the game is lost, versus a "FINE YOU WIN" kind of quitting, which is simply a case of sore loser's ego not being able to handle it...

1. the store was closing and had to wrap up in turn 3
2. the kid I was playing's mum turned up to collect him
3. by turn 3 i had no troops choices left on the battlefield, and as it was an objectives mission, i just said 'yeah you've won, lets not hog the table and play to turn 5'

The thing I hated about the whole situation was that he didn't even lose a model yet, he just refused to declare who he was putting the wounds on. His army was intact, literally untouched (minus a shaken Hammerhead)

I just couldn't understand it at all.

kaptaink, sorry to hear about that but you were playing TFG. Lack of social skills and rampant immaturity seems to plague mini-wargaming groups. Most of us learn and mature past the point of immaturity to have a good time. But there are those who never grow up, even the 22 year olds. TFG having to call his mom for a ride? Classic!

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

The ruins of the Palace of Thorns

I was tempted to quit once. My best friend and I agreed to play a game of Epic "without using Titans" as I wanted to play a game that was determined by troops and tanks instead of being all about the big guys. He agreed to this, and with my reasons for wanting it.

I placed my marine army, with zero Titan Legion allies. He then places an Eldar army including three Titans. When I point out that we agreed to not use Titans, he said "Yes, but your Titans are from an allied list, whereas mine are actually from the Eldar army list, so it is not the same." I pointed out that we had agreed not to use Titans, not that I, and I alone, would refrain from using "allies" in my all Imperial force. I played him anyway. I can't remember if I won.

Another time the same guy walked out of our weekly role-playing session at a local club and took all of his rulebooks with him about 30 minutes into the evening. If I remember rightly he was supposed to be DMing, and we did something he didn't like. I am not even sure if it was even related to the game, or if he just wantd to get snacks at a different time to us, or something, but I remember that the other 4 or 5 of us sat there with our mouths literally hanging open, unable to even try and convince him to stay, because we couldn't figure out why he was even leaving. Unbelievably petty.

He was, to say the least, a bit spoiled anyway.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

I've only ever left a game once - and it was only because the store was closing because our game hadn't started until 2 hours after we'd planned to.

I did have one player get totally pissed off and quit on me, though. My Space Wolves vs. his Necrons (Both proxying stuff at the time, since neither of us had much in the way of models). Turn 2, my LRC moves up and deposits Logan with 5 of his buddies. They charge a huge blob of Necron Warriors with two Necron Lords, manage 8 casualties and take none, and he loses two squads of Warriors and 2 Lords in a single blow. When he realized that he lose so much in one assault, he just quit and threw a model in anger. (It was my own Crisis Suit used as a proxy, but thankfully it was a plastic model and didn't take any damage)

Personally, I would never leave a game even if I was losing badly. At our gaming shop, if any player concedes, his opponent counts as getting full points for his army (IE a massacre). I once lost pretty hard - at the end of the game, I was down to a single Grey Hunter left on the board. Still, it was one Grey Hunter that was holding an objective, and it actually stopped him from getting a full-on massacre on me. My units tied up his in assault for a good long while, and by the end he only held one, with everything else out of reach.

never had someone leave on me or seen people leave another game(on purpose), but i have seen people who should have gotton up and left.

this relitivly new kid at our FLGS is turning out to be our TFG.

He plays eldar (badly), whines when he gets tabled on turn 2 by Grey Knights, doesn't know the eldar rules very well.

The store we play at (its a HobbyTown USA) has a mild Language code we must abide by and this kid is told every time by one of us to tone down his language(we are talking NC-17 language here) fortunantly for him he hasn't been caught by the store manager yet, but we gamers are very tired with him.

we try and help him, but there are times where i WISH he would get up and leave.

a friend of mine once said he had someone leave an appoc game just because he lost his guy that was carrying his vortex grenade. i do admit i would be dissappointed, but i wouldn't leave.

Yes, because I refused to not call them my Space Wolves and he even said [at some point of the discussion] that they could not be a Space Wolf Army as they were not painted the right [GW Product] color and would only play me if I made them a normal marine army.
The weird part was he had no problem with my Warzone Minis that I was using, but he may not have noticed them.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Yes, I've had people quit a game on me. I've also quit games on other people.

I had a game against someone on Vassal named Miggles - he was attempting some quite illegal things, hanging a land raider 1" onto the board, moving his terminators through impassible terrain to get into assault with my units, moving units, moving them back, moving to other units, then moving the original unit again to a more favorable position; moving already moved units....lots of shenanigans. As the game progressed and I kept calling them....culminating with him having a 5 man terminator unit only getting one model into base while the others had to conga-line out because of impassible terrain...he quit the game.

I had a game last year in 'Ard Boyz - round one of the semi-finals, turn2; I packed up and left because of shenanigans.

I've conceded on turn1 a few times as well - getting second turn, and the first turn enemy shooting phase annihilates 50%+ of your army, taking away all mobility and leaving you with reduced squads of orks who are going to have to spend 2-3 turns slogging across the field under fire.....a lost cause before it started.

When the new Tyranid Codex came out in January this year, I said I'd give my friend his first game for him to test out some new Tyranid models. On Turn 1, He advanced his Trgon foward, withing range for my Wave Serpent with Wraithguard in. I moved 12", disembarked the Wraithguard and fired a volley of Wraithcannon shots. I rolled a 6 to wound so his Trygon was Instant Deathed. He had a paddy about how cheesy Wraithguard are and quit the game. On Turn 1!

Locclo - I assume Logan (at least) and the buddies were in terminator armour? As you cannot SA with models in terminator armour, even if only one model in the unit is in termi armour. So they would have run about, and you may have been able to shepherd them off the table, but not all gone in one go at least

Dash - moving models 1" onto the board is technically legal, as it bears no relation to moving *off* the board (aka Falling back) and no stipulation is made as to "fully" on.

I find I will concede if even a draw is impossible - however fighting fora draw can be quite exciting, and in most cases a draw IS possible, even if it is unlikely and requires a bit of luck

Sorry about that, I wasn't clear. They weren't swept off the board - they were simply two inches away from the edge. When you're that close, the fact that the roll for fallback is 2d6" doesn't matter much, they're going to hit the edge no matter what.
