Have you read the Ork FAQ on Deffrollas? Orks are going to be having the times of their lives here.

Well we don't really know that for sure. We're guessing here (thanks GW Secrecy Department - God forbid you ever want to actually hype up a release, always better to tell us nothing ever until the day it arrives... morons).

Anyway, Spearhead could allow transported squads in the same way Armoured Company lists have always allowed Chimeras with people inside them.

Face it Dark Eldar won't get anything until their new codex is released. If it isn't released they will get squatted

Nope, not this time. Confirmed new plastic kits are:
Manticore/Deathstrike (no hydra)
Fire Prism/Nigh Spinner
Leman Russ
Eldar heavy weapons

So, only IG and Eldar are represented? They gets none of my money then and I'll add that without doing something for each faction, it's a wasted opportunity because only a fraction of the fanbase will be interested in buying it.

And Tau won't even have a showing here with 1 tank.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

They'll probably be new units in plastic when the next codex rolls around but that's a long way off.
If you want to know what will go plastic then just interrogate the forgeworld peeps until they tell you what's selling well for Orks.

Seems like it would be a neat idea if they were willing to do it in a smaller scale, and add more superheavies...

(And call it Epic...)

Well, seems to me that the game is moving towards becoming the new epic, as more and more vehicles that used to be reserved for Epic/FW/Apocalypse. We have Manticores and Deathstrike Missiles in regular games, Tyranids are cutting lose with gigantic monsters, and Vendettas and Stormravens tear up the skies. I'm sure the next edition will again make larger armies, to make room for more vehicles (like make them more vulnerable, but also cheaper and fieldable in squadrons) and more troops and more big crazy fliers and similar madness.

It's a classic marketing plot.

Company X wants to sell Product Y. Therefore Company X creates a market for Product Y.

In this case, GW wants to sell more tanks. So they create a game where tanks are the focus. End result, more tanks sold.

Nice idea. It worked with Apoc.

Actually, all of the Apocalypse box sets were to get rid of the stock piled inventory. After Apocalypse came out they move a ton of stuff to Direct and they stream lined their inventory system.

Wow, I must have missed all these Collector's/Classic range apocalypse sets. The ones I saw only had modern stuff in it like Chaos Spawn and Ork Boyz and Land Raiders, and they're all still available in stores.

As an IG player, I'm excited about the new Russ kit (somewhat less so about the Manticore/Deathstrike, although I'm sure I'll get one thanks to my completionist streak ). I'm curious to see if they do indeed include all the parts necessary to represent all of the remaining variants, or if there will be one left out.

I have a feeling that most of the rules in the expansion will be non-faction specfic; sort of like an Apoc data sheet, but more generalized. I have a hard time imagining how else GW will be able to squeeze the entire thing into an issue of WD. Of course, they could really just be planning to include only the Eldar and IG, but that strikes me like a bad idea as it would exclude so many players and potentially hurt sales...

One? Since you're a completionist doesn't that mean you need six of them? You need the maximum amount fieldable in one army of everything. 9 Leman Russes, 3 Manticores, 9 Hydras, 3 Deathstrikes, atleast 12 Chimeras to feel somewhat secure, etc.

I popped into a local GW to grab a copy of The Lost yesterday and got talking with the staff there. One of them was kind enough to let me have a quick glance at the new Russ sprues. Although I didn't identify all the parts, he said all four remaing variants were on there. I feel a bit silly for not checking more closely but my attention was on the Vanquisher barrel, which wasn't as long or thin as I expected but is still rather nice.

If he does that he'll end up like me. I went the completest route with my Russes, back when you could only have 3 at a time, so I had them in each config - 3 with just Hull HB's, 3 with just hull LC's, 3 with hull HB's and Sponson HB's, 3 (actually 6) with Hull LC's and Sponson HB's. I ignored the Heavy Flamer ones though. And this is on top of 4 Vanquishers, an Annihilator, Executioner, 3 Exterminators and 6 Demolishers.

The completest route isn't always the best... takes up too much room!

Yeah, I too am wondering where I'm going to keep all my crap. Batteries of missiles, squadrons of tanks... But my will is still resolute to wait for plastic artillery and Vendettas.

Gathering the Informations.

Again:
The assumption that it will be "Tanks versus Tanks" could be flawed.

It's entirely possible that, seeing as how this is "Spearhead" and not "Armored Battles" that we're going to be seeing instances where Armored Spearheads are used.

Things like tank regiments breaking through an infantry defended line, or armored units running amok in the rear of the lines, etc.
