One thing to keep in mind is the time limit - if you play orks you've really got to watch the time and do everything you can to play fast, or you'll wind up with draws due to limited time. Compact armies have an advantage in large, short timed games.

Unfortunately, the Ard Boyz prelims are on my wife's birthday, so I'll just be fodder for warmup games for my friends.

I'd bring something like this:

Big Mek - KFF
Warboss - PK
15x Lootas
15x Lootas
15x Lootas
10x Nobs w/painboy as Troops- Assorted BC and PK in Battle Wagon with 2xBS and Deff Rolla
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
20x Shoota Boys w/Nob - 2x BS and PK on nob
Deff Dread as a troop
3x Battle Wagons w/deff rolla and 2x bigshoota

something like 170 to spare, only non maxed slot is troops and fast

I was thinking of doing something like this, but perhaps with Killa Kans in place of 1x Heavy Slot and instead of Nobs in a BW, perhaps Nob Bikers? What do you guys think of that? This might be a perfect time to run a Nob Biker heavy list, even though I'm sure IG has a lot that can take them down.

I'll probably post a few lists a little later tonight.

I'm struggling with this question too.

I have been playing the heck out of my guard but my BA's have won 2/3rds of my play tests against a full on hard as nails IG army.

@tetrisphreak
You don't know Dave, man. He won the SIS with a fulff Nurgle army (which is by no means weak, but it was not optimized either).

If anyone can pull off a win with that list, and I admit I had the same thoughts, Dave can. He is a very good player.

But how is it a one trick poney? That is a beat face list, it is only weak against Heavy Armor, like a LR list that also has a hood. Other than that, that list can pop most any rear armor 10 boxes.

That's such a good point and one that is so often overlooked... just about any tank besides the ubiquitous landraider can be popped in close combat. If the tank is moving at cruising speed then it's not shooting (albeit this doesn't apply to fast vehicles as much).

I plan on taking 1k sons just to see people scratch their heads and also since they are my most complete army. I am running the most bass-ackwards type of list but i plan on having fun and did last year with a mostly foot slogging CSM list as it was funny to watch people try to figure out what to do with all those lances and lascannons they brought. I love throwing wrenches in everyones plans.

Oh yeah Darkzephyr take Orks to many rules obscurities not clarified yet. Now granted you should work out beforehand the goofy rules but trust me you dont really want to face someone that wants to argue about those type of rules even if you do work it out beforehand. I had someone in a game complain about Warptime and its obscurities the WHOLE game. Trust me more fun not to worry about stuff like that.

I don't disagree that the 'stealers will be very good at cracking open AV10 in CC. What i do see a lot of in my meta, however, are the heavy flamer chimeras that will roast the nicely clumped stealers after they've spent a turn breaking open a box or two. In other armies, there will be other shooting to contend with, along with demolisher and battle cannon large blast templates. Also a list that outflanks has the chance of coming in piecemeal, as well as telegraphing the battle plan to the opposing general (stay 18+" away from the sides of the table and shoot the bugs as they come in).

I am a devout tyranid player, and I will be taking my bugs to the 'ard boyz even though they just aren't the hottest army at my FLGS right now. Do not take these statements as "lolz weaksauce" but rather observations of how the list could possibly not work as intended.

Change perspective a little. Picture wide lines of stealers (maximum spacing) coming across the table horizontally, deployed via infiltrate. The stealers don't have to clump against an IG mech line - they just assault 4 chimerae at once.

Killing 120 genestealers who have cover is going to be difficult for quite a few lists. I might run some Hive Guard over the Zoanthropes personally, but it'll be a nasty surprise for anyone who metagames against mechanized lists.

Sadly I only have 38 genestealers (22 of which are space hulk models glued to 25mm bases) so i can't use that tactic. I'm trying a mix of nidzilla/swarm support w/ hive guard, doom, venoms for cover and tervigons, swarmlord, trygons, and dakkafexes in a squad (36 TL s6 shots....ooh yeah). I'll probably get mopped up in the third round vs. IG but i think I can hang with any MEQ.

So you're saying Orks have "TOO" many rules obscurities and un-clarified and therefore I should play them? Exactly what rules obscurities are you thinking of? I definitely want to know what CSP thinks of various rulings, sometimes their ideas of how the rules should work are a lot different than the people I play with locally, so that's a good idea...but now that the Deffrolla thing has been cleared up, I can't think of too many problems I would have with what I plan to run.

@ TetrisPhreak; I would definitely include the SwarmLord if I were running Nids in this event. I think he would rock. I'm wondering though...wouldn't you want to have at least one TyrannoFex in there for Long Rang AP?

I'm toying with an all-drop list to get close by turn 2 instead of footslogging and getting shot for 3+ turns. Talk about one-trick ponies, mine fits that to a T. Bad reserve rolls = loss.
