Hi all, just a quick update to let you know I'm still working on the article...it's a lot more work than I first thought and I want to get it right. I will let you know the moment it is up.

Building the Predator rekindled my desire to build and document the Whirlwind Walker, however, it's a bit pricey at GW's inflated prices these days and I am really in two minds as to whether to go forward with it. Would the community be interested in such a project?

I reckon I can do it for £60 / $88 (yeah I know...like I said, pricey, and that's after a 20% discount) - I would need to buy a Whirlwind, Dreadnought and Sentinal kit (the original also used the engine grill from a Land Raider but isn't absolutely necessary)...but I guess the real question is, how many of you out there could afford to build it even if I produced a guide? That in turn would limit the value of the guide to the community.

The models are awesome, but its not just about being able to slavishly follow your instructions. Seeing as the models are rather unique a full guide to construction would be of enourmous value to the community in sparking other ideas in other people

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

A lot of stuff goes for cheap on ebay these days. I personally would be very interested. Tell you what, post some more detailed versions of the missile launcher variant online after you write the initial guide and we'll see if we can make sense of how to build one after creating the original without the need for a guide. If not, we can get a bitz drive going, which I would contribute to for sure. I was thinking of ditching the dreadnought parts and putting the rocket pods onboard the predator style sentinel, but I haven't got a really good look at the dreadnought one just yet so reserving judgement, it's a cool model nevertheless. And btw, take your time getting it right

Awesome. Might want to place in the "Painting and Modeling Tutorials" forum?

Very cool mini. My 2 cents, try to get rid of any gaps between parts with some green stuff.

Nope, this is right where it's supposed to be...it's not a tutorial, just a discussion. As for the gaps (I am assuming you mean on the main body) they are an intentional part of the look I wanted. Thanks for the praise though.

I am really feeling these for my AdMech force... though I will need some mroe detailed instructions if I am to slave some pilots into them...

Which pieces go where and where I am to buy cheaper kits from Australia... other than M-bomb...

Also, where did you get the AdMech symbol on the leg of one?

I am still writing up the article (seems to be taking forever ). The basics you will need are a Sentinel and a Predator. The AdMech symbols are cut from the engine block component of the Land raider.

Those look awesome!

Literally hugely epic. Maybe not overly urban though, apart from for huge boulevards or something. Remind me of those horrible moo-ing organic tanks in MGS4.

Let's see more!!

I keep looking at the dreadnought conversion walker and think true scale dreadnought. With a bit more bulk on the legs and making the whirlwind arm a bit more like the existing dread arm and scratching a powerfist... hmmmm.

Cool conversions. How did you come up with the idea, or did it just roll out of your sleaves?
I think it's allso a good idea that you made more of em. It might sound logical, but I do think that just one of them would look off next to an ordinary dread. or pred.

I might use some of this too, when making my killa kans!

Thanks for the comments guys. I will post up when I have painted the latest edition. The article is coming...I am really sorry for the wait but it is coming...work, wife and family keep getting in the way though.

I think these would be a bit TOO big for a truescale Dread and you would need a lot of armour on the legs to stop them looking too spindly. The whole reason mine have lower leg armour was to tie them in slightly with the look of a Titan, to stop them looking like 'chicken legs' and to provide armour for the hydraulic's (fescalized portion).

The idea for these came from my long time love of BattleTech Mech Warriors - Vultures and Madcats...awesome, also the movie, RobotJox...classic cheesy giant robot film.

The metal pilot came from the metal MKII land Speeder. I was thinking that if folks didn't want to try and scratch build a plastic pilot as I posted up earlier in this thread, maybe the gunner from the plastic Marine Attack Bike would work...I don't know, I haven't actually got one or seen one (my attack bike is the old metal one).

Anybody think this would work?

No, these walkers are specifically versions of the smaller tanks that have no troop carrying capacity or heavy recoil weapons. This was a deliberate decision on my part...I didn't want troops carried by walkers and heavy recoil weapons like the Vindicators main gun would mean a severe lack of munitions storage on a walker.
