I REALLY like the acetone idea for nurgle tanks and such eroded metal thangs. Also, is Maths the correct term? Cus I teach the maths sounds like grammatical murder. Like, i can do the maths, or, i can do the karates. Can't wait to get the club going again and i should find the family camera and take pics of my stuff again, i'm sure i could find my old blog somewhere.

Nice long weekend that gave me time to work on a few projects:

Almost finished with Yarrick's Fortress of Arrogance for an APOC game at the end of September. I choose this tank as opposed to a regular Baneblade because I have my Imperial Guard army and a Black Templar army so this will serve as a bridge between the two.



Still need to finish the side panels.



Progress on Chaos Project:





I used Masking Paint to cover the red primed body while I worked on the metal pieces. Presently the metal parts have an undercoat of brown and Tin Bits, sealer, then hairsprayx2, then Boltgun metal then Mithril Silver, & Black ink. Once I have time I will scrub off the top coat so that it looks like rust. Great trick I learned from Forgeworld's Masterclass painting book that Scarab lent me.

That's a sweet map and I love how the chaos legions are coming along. Are you just using them as display pieces or in an actual squad?

I have about 75 Chaos Marines all together; each unit represents one Traitor Legion. Some are pretty much done, some just base coated as in the photo. I'll post the entire project upon completion... which won't be for a long while because my wife & I are about to begin a large construction project on the house that will involve lots of furniture moving & miniatures being packed up for months/ weeks.

Oo... sounds interesting. I dare say I look forward to playing against this army in the near future._

Some folks PM'd me if I do commission work or if I sell these armies. I don't, but I've been toying with the idea of buying a Fantasy army. But this Chaos project has me tapped out so I'm testing the waters with the idea of selling only my Dark Angels army. They're kinda outdated, but I love the Sammuel model. So all in all, this army looks good enough for me; I'm not a professional painter by any means. The LR is missing some bits, and maybe some models are missing some that I haven't realized fell off, but the magnetized bases are pretty sweet. And I'll include the Dark Angels Codex if anyone is interested in buying this army.

Finished the Doom of Arthas Moloch campaign last month with an APOC game.

One last Sergeant hoping to hold out long enough to claim objective using that APOC stratagem that allows units at less than 50% to hold objectives. We later learned that that only applies to units for the player that choose that stratagem. Vulkan cries himself to sleep in his pillow.

Great game for a great campaign. Loved using the map, though I had added waaaaaaaay to many extra rules in the campaign guide. Great to have 8 people in a campaign though.

Our house has been a workzone while we did a construction project for the last three months so I could not get much painting done- until yesterday. The Chaos project is fairly well painted; you can tell which unit is which, but I have alot of work to do on detailing. Here's the latest:

Finally made some progress on the Chaos project over the last two weekends & was able to take some good photos.

Here is the Khorne "rhino" that I have been working on. It could turn into a land raider someday, but at this point I'm happy with the rhino role.

The steps of painting were:
- primed with Army Painter's Rat brown
-sealed
-hairspray
-boltgun metal
-scrubbed with wet toothbrush
-misted with tin bitz
-sealed
-hairspray
-Army Builder red
-scrubbed with wet toothbrush
-drybrushed boltgun metal & chainmail
-sealed
-airbrushed mix of red & brown inks
-sealed

i like the chaos rhino, but it seems a little small?

Funny, I would say it looks a bit big, at least tall.

While I've been on this hairspray-to-make-rust-look kick I also made some progress on the daemon prince.









The position of the legs looks kind of weird, but I'm trying to make it look like he is rearing back to swing. Haven't quite worked it out right though. Also don't know what would be a good color for his eye.

I would say a yellow, green or blue coloured eye.

Stuff I used:

I've been working on my Black Templar army lately. It makes a nice counter part to the Chaos project because its all black whereas the Chaos project includes units from all 9 Traitor Legions. I recently added another Vindicator, a Predator & a second rhino.

Things did not work out so well so I figured I'd post some mistakes & explanations.

I tried the hairspray trick with out a layer of sealer because I read somewhere on dakka that you can do that.

You can't.



I had based the model with primer, then airbrushed a mixture of brown & boltgun metal. Then I went directly to the hairspray and ended with spray enamel black... yeah enamel spray sucks because it is way too goopy & shinny for my liking. Anyhow, back to the missing sealer. Without the layer of sealer, the wet toothbrush.

Luckily I had sprayed the bottom half of the rhino with brown paint & sealer, then hit it with the boltgun metal. That worked out better:

The bottom part looks awesome! Personally I would add some more debt to it by stippling the brown with 1 to 2 lighter tones of rust brown. That would kick *ss.

What colours do you use for rust? Cos it looks great!

That is a good idea; I was painting with tin bitz after the fact, but that is a better idea. Thanks. I was thinking of putting on one coat, then inking with another shade, then sealer, and go from there.


The color I am using is Vermin Brown when I use the airbrush or Rat Fur Brown, now called Fur Brown, in spray cans from Army Painter:

So I've allowed myself to get distracted from the Chaos project and have been focused on this Ork kitbash of a Stompa & Baneblade... and Leman Russ, and Chaos vehicles bits, and Land Raider, and Ork trukk, and... well you get the point.

I tried to take photos that show the progression of the primer, sealer, hairspray, 2nd coat, wet toothbrush scrub technique. I have already scrubbed with the toothbrush, but don't have photos yet. I'll edit them in this weekend.



The Ork Stompa arm with cannon will eventually be mounted on the roof of this monstrosity.











I'll also be painting up & adding various crew members in the next few weeks.

I've been working on a bunch of random projects lately. Of course none of them are getting done, but here's the latest status.

Actually one of them got done which was an Imperial Bastion that I made for my high school's game club, but that's at school so I couldn't get a picture of it.













And for a local games store that's trying to get 40K going:



I tried to keep these terrain pieces simple because I figure they'll take a beating in the games store. I didn't want any fiddly bits that would break off & I wanted them simple enough so that the models people play on them stand out. And I wanted to keep them cheap.







Those little walls from the inside of a rhino are great bits to hang on to. Cut them up into three pieces and you get a door, computer and gun for gun rack. I like to paste a couple of the guns in a row so it looks like a little armory.

Finally got my butt in gear & took some photos of projects I've been working on. Most recently, I made some terrain for a tournament for the high school kids in my games club. The chaos army was from months ago, but I never got around to taking photos. The Grey Knights are the most recent army. I've also been painting a Ravenguard project, but that needs more work before being photo ready.

The Vindicator is pretty much done. The LR has been melted with acetone and whatever else (see page 1 of this thread for details), then had the spraypaint trick (see page 2) and still needs the detail work done on the nurgle curruption.

The two non-CoD cathedrals are from the Pegasus kits, right? Which is which?

They are both Pegasus kits, but I don't know which is which because I bought them on eBay. They came as leftovers from someone who had the original boxes. After putting them together I realized that I did not even need to have glued them together; they are modular. I've looked around to buy more, but they rarely show up on eBay & I have not found anywhere else that sells them cheap.

Ahh, what a coincidence. I've been eying them for a while, but wanted to see how they looked before taking the plunge. They're looking pretty good, as it so happens, haha. This guy on ebay has them for cheaper than anywhere else I've seen and seems to keep them in stock.
