^^ Where's the OSL?
It's a nicely painted figure, but there is no OSL at all.

oh gawd
Object Source Lighting means that light is shining from a light source on an object(a mini in our case)
mostly the light source will be over and slightly beside a mini.
try this:
put a mini(unpainted or primed white) on a table and put a lamp over it.
you will see that that the white on the mini is bright where it is hit directly by the light and getting darker where less light hits the mini(shados).
this is "real" osl
and hers a link for a tut,AGAIN

Ham, pretty sure he means there is no dramatic OSL on that figure, just normal blending to emphasise shadow.
There is no actual light source on the figure, which is what people tend to view OSL as.

i know ^_^
couldnt find the pic,but its one of the best examples for osl:
its the nicodemus mini primed black and white primer was sprayed on it from the front to simulate light.
the guy took the pic and used it as a reference for painting another nicodemus ^^

that's what is called Zenithal Lighting, HamHam...
it's a different thing...
OSL, in mini painting, is about a glow from a fire, or a flashlight, or a plasma coil...
in the case of what the OP is asking, it would be the eyes of the Marine helmet...
the lightsource would be from a small object (eyelenses), on the mini, which shines a different colored light onto the surface (faceplate), and just shines onto a very small area...
this my first attempt:
cheers

Nice job on the glow around the eyes, not overdone like some of the affect can easily be. Hate to say it though, but you've got the body completely wrong.

If you look on the GW site, they do have the Heavy Metal article on how they did this technique, if that helps. Best of luck!

You seem confused. Perhaps it is a language barrier, but there is no need to be so patronising :(
There is no light source on the mini; hence there is no OSL.
Placing the highlighting as if all the light is coming from the same direction is called Zenthial Lighting by some, and simply Highlighting by others.
Hope this clears things up

zenthial lighting is just a form of osl.
the thing is that the light source is not part of the mini(such as the glowining eyes or a torch)
@jah-joshua:
maybe adding almost pure white to the center of the eyes would add to the effect?

No. OSL is object source lighting. The lighting comes from somewhere on the model/diorama. Zenithal lighting means a remote source implied by shadowing/highlighting on the miniature diorama. Yes, both are lighting techniques, but when you use specific names you are introducing specific differences.
