Keep going with this.

OSL NMM and other effects have become the standard in many paintjobs so you need to make sure that yours is tip top and neat.

The judges will be looking for clean crisp and smooth paintwork as well as a clean mini so the mould lines have to go as well.

Practice the simple things as it makes more ambitious work easier.

you seem to have a good grasp of certain painting skills there but I think maybe you just need to spend a bit more time on the models as a whole, i'm no golden damon contender but I think i do nice table top mini's and the things I learnt from just looking around different forums and sites and also collecting images of the models I really like and just looking at them and how they're painted helps heaps, this way you can find a technique you'd like to try and search around until you find someone that's posted a tutorial, I did this with lava bases and because I was eager to do it well I researched and spent my time with it, I think a little bit more time and studying the models you love to look at will be your best shot, and before you know it you'll be on your way to getting a trophy.
basically what i'm trying to say but rambling endlessly is this... find the techiques you love, study them, practice and make sure you are excited about the process no matter how long it takes! and don't forget to post pics so we can see your progress! good luck :-)

the paintjob is great, but youll see at least a dozen eldar tanks at a golden demon that are painted to that standard.but the overall look/idea/concept is nothing new.
check cmon and youll find much better eldar tanks that didnt even make first cut.

Im sorry, but unless I met those "kids" in person and actually saw them paint those, I dont believe a kid painted those, no way. Id bet more on an older sibling wanted to win something. and so had his little brother enter it.

theres a kid in our gaming club that paints gd style.too bad there are no gds in austria and that he turned 15 last year^^

and i highly doubt that they dont check if the person that enters painted the mini

Im not saying it cant be done by a young kid. IVe seen some pretty talented kids paint before as well. But Ive looked at that site that shows GD winners back to 1999, and pretty much ALL the youngbloods Ive seen were painted pretty nicely indeed (mostly better than anything I could muster lol) but still no where close to that good.

They all get better and better. And with the abundance of video tutorials, free and not-free, and "regular" tutorials most advanced techniques spreads faster and faster. So if you're already a talented 15 year old it's pretty easy to further hone your skills. Especially compared to how it was 10 years ago.

A friends girlfriend picked up the hobby a couple of months ago, and after watching her boyfriend paint and some tutorials she started to churn out really amazing paintjobs.
Sure, it helps that she's an artist from the start, but painting minis / learning the techniques to a good standard is way easier nowadays.

ETA: It's not like I'm saying it's easy. It's just a little easier.

Some notes on winning a GD - Free hand painting is a must. Do some metal effects. I think its called NMM? Learn to do blending and properly use your inks\washes. Also a note, some people spend a whole year on their entries so doing something over a weekend is unlikely to get you a medal.

Not to sound like damn near everyone else on here, but I, too, am sorry. You have really good flame effects but it's just not clean enough. I have won 2 Golden Demons in the past, and honestly I think that was just luck. Last year at Chicago I entered 9 categories (I had been away for 4 years in Iraq and elsewhere, so I hadn't been able to make it to a Games Day for a while) and I didn't win a single category. 7 first cuts, but no wins. GW doesn't want a lot of conversion anymore, and as someone already said, Golden Demon is a marketing scheme. They want to put the picture in the back of their army books so that they can make impressionable youths buy those models in hopes of doing something like that. It won't keep me from going in this year, but I'm just doing it to show off some really fun models this time.

First of all, I say it takes guts to put yourself on the line, like you have.
Also putting your paintjob out there and asking for tips to improve, seems like you got the right attitude to excel and ultimately win.

Now as others have said, the model in your gallery may not be Golden Demon material just yet, but if you read through that whole tutorial posted by OoieGoie in this thread, and take the lessons to heart, both the actual painting and modelling lessons, but also the personal ones, then I think you could make a GD winner. Also it seems you're not afraid to try out some of the harder techniques already like OSL, which is nice to see.

Keep going and post update pictures often, so people can follow your process and provide helpful tips along the way!

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

you are a skillful painter but i think you should blend the flames on the armour or atleast the kneepad a bit and I dont know why but your miniature looks a bit messy compare it to thishttp://www.gamehobby.net/images/photo_gallery/space-marines/gallery_space-marines_lotd_bolter_magazine.jpg look at the flames on this miniature (note not made by me) and blend the flames a bit better
and make a light effect on the eyes
cool miniature though

looking at the tank v chaos unit and at first glace the tank is more impressive but have a thing guys.... that tanks main strength is the fine lines etc,, that MIGHT have been done with a pen....... check out the copic multiliners in .03 mm, adversely look at the skin tones and blends on the chaos unit and base etc, thats hard to do to that quality, and over an entire unit.
Not saying its a deserving win over the tank but with only 1 pic of each to look at if your wanting to award the most technically advanced job it might actually be the chaos unit ? food for thought anyway.
