I win because no one, not even myself, knows what I am going to bring into a game.
I am also helped because I swap up roles of my units very often. I have said multiple times how I love to roll my Havocs on this site (Power weapon champ with 4 flamers and rhino).
And I (Gasp!) tailor my list to my opponent. It doesn't always work, and I don't do it often, but If someone runs the same list over and over and starts bragging, I will start trial/erroring their downfall.

I win because i secretly intensely hate everyone I meet, and therefore have to beat them...at everything.
Its not good enough to win, everyone else has to loose.
ON A LESS GRIMDARK NOTE: I win because:
A) Ive been playing longer than all my friends
B) I have the most money
C) my friends are dumbasses.

Luck, and a hell of a lot of sillyness.
In a recent Warmachine Game, we had a 1v1v1 Battlegroup game, Cygnar V Protectorate V Cryx. I won the game in turn two, with a crapton of spammed Venoms.
In Fantasy, it's mostly deployment. I see a scary unit, I'll counter it, or I'll put down a weak unit to entice my opponent.

I'm more of a hobbiest than a tactician. While I'm working on the latter, I lean heavily towards the former.

I win by deep-striking as many monoliths as the game type allows into the heart of the enemy force, send in the nightbringer supported by waves of destroyers, then follow up with loads of necron warriors.
I then sit back and roll dice.
Monolith spamming wins games. It's boring, but it works. Hence I use tyranids most of the time to avoid boredom of monolithing.

I win by target overload, making my opponent react to me and paying attention to mission objectives.
I always have at least three targets of approximately equal points and comparable toughness in my lists so my opponent has to split his fire to take me down. As I play Orks, that is usually 7 Trukks @ 2000, 5 Trukks @1500, or 3x20 Boyz @1000.
I then proceed to cram those targets down his throat and capitalize on any mistakes he makes in target priority.

I win because Sun Tzu's Art of War dictates my every move, placing me in a Zen-like trance where I don't actually feel like I'm fighting against my opponents. I feel like he's fighting himself because he forgot to 'Know thyself' and instead concentrates on 'Know they enemy' leaving me free to use his own weaknesses against him.

I win because I'm physically larger than my opponents.
That is, I use my physical presence and intimidation factor to keep them off their game. Since the majority of players are string-bean-armed nerds, it's not too hard to get them nervous enough to make mistakes. I don't really have to threaten them, just loom a bit and keep putting myself inside their comfort bubble. Glare a lot, don't say much, and it makes your enemy play badly.

I win by applying the proper Intelligence Preparation of the Battlespace techniques and then up-channeling that to command who formulates an OPLAN that I use in the conduction of operations. Also, after each and every turn, I file a DISUM to keep command appraised of the situation, and then open "comms" in case any deviation from the standard OPLAN is necessary.
It is a rigid and principled system that I find works well with Warhammer 40K's dynamic and challenging warfare. Only through these applied principles am I able to conquer such devious enemies as "Jeffy from Littleton Middle School".

That's fairly pathetic.
Anyway, when I win it's usually due to lucky rolls or a good list.

No, it's a smart use of assets.
And it probably works quite often.
There are plenty of people out there, however, who understand the concept of intimidation, realize how hollow it is, and don't allow it to break their mindset. This has been tried on me before, and it doesn't work.
A good question to ask would be, "What do you do when that doesn't work?"
And I really and truly don't mean to sound insulting here, but if your victories rely on luck and lists, you may want to reexamine your tactics. Just saying. Again, not trying to be insulting, I just don't like the idea of relying on external factors (in both of these cases) to win my games for me.

I would have to disagree with your post. No, it is not a smart use of assets, it's a pathetic method of strong-arming people who just want to have a nice game. And I don't say so because I don't have the same physical advantages, quite the opposite in fact. I'd say I understand the factor of intimidation just fine, well enough to know that it has no place in friendly gaming.
As for your shot at my reasons for winning battles. I never claimed to be a good player, i'm below average at best, but that doesn't change the fact that I love wargaming, win or lose.

What do you do when you run into the player that is into large rough bears and becomes very affectionate? Ya know, the guy that makes really good moves to get you closer. The one that leans in just as much as you do.
Also, What do you do when you run into those Napolean types? Those short thin types with an inferiority complex and never misses a chance to get into a physical fight with somebody who is large.
And finally, what do you do when you run into the 5'10" 280 pound powerlifter that just grins as he wercks your army?

I don't know, tell him you're not interested? Are you some kind of homophobe? Gay guys don't just indiscriminately sexually assault anyone that appears to possibly have some sort of homosexual vibe. Pretty offensive that you would imply that it would be impossible to ward off a gay man that may be attracted to you.

Was pointing out that the tactic that KPCommissar posted might get him different reactions than intended. Go back and reread the response and it should be clear that the question was in regerence what tactic does he use then.
BTW, I find your implication that I am a homophobe, both very offensive and unintelligent. Seriously, it takes quite a stretch to take my reply and to fabricate a way to be offended by it. Your post makes me wonder what sort of underlying issues that you might have when you feel the need to project such feelings onto others.
To me, your post is coming across to me as the sort of hateful projection that occurs when someone has yet to resolve their own internal conflicts on this topic. You do know thay it is ok to be gay and if you were raised in a conservative enviroment that such conflicted feelings are normal? It might help you to find someone to talk to if this topic this is such an issue that you so aggressively misconstrued such a comment.
ON TOPIC
@KPCommissar- Still waiting for your reply. Physical intimdation only works on those that are easily bullied. There are many players that are not si easily intimidated or bullied. What do you do in those situations?
