This is a Dark Angel Deathwing member...

Old-school standard DA markings had the company "heraldry" on his right knee, and those are most definately the Deathwing's colors.

Deathwing doesn't use purple, I swear. It is bone, white, and red and/or green, I thought.

I am thinking this may well be a precursor to the Mortifactors.

OMG!!! It is clearly a chaos figure because everyone sees a different color scheme - infiltration camo. before some nefarious deeds are perpetrated against the Imperium of Man. I have been a Dark Angels fan since 1991 and it is NOT Dark Angels!!

My best guess is that it is a random chapter color plan - just to highlight the paint scheme.

Nope definitely Dark Angels. Regular Dark Angels of that era are black, while the terminators are white. He's in power armor but has terminator honors, hence the mix. Plus, you can see the red feathers of the Dark Angel emblem on his shoulder.

The purple is odd, but its subtle and I'd say is just whoever painted it just wanted to jazz it up a little.

Oh, and Dark Angel player from back when making a vehicle for them involved deodorant.

The original picture is from the 2nd edition rulebook. It's not purple... that's obviously a colour issue with the scanner of whoever uploaded the pic. He's listed in the picture as just a Space Marine Captain, but the dark green and white, along with the peek of the wings over the shoulder pad says he's a Dark Angel.

Dark Angels were green by the start of 2nd edition, and Captains had a bit more leeway in their colour-schemes.

OK I've just a flick through my 2nd ed rulebook. On the page with this miniature on it, look at the bottom rightmost photo of a dark angels terminator captain, then compare the colour scheme to the fig in question, this one was definately painted up as a dark angels marine (they are both on the same page, so comparison is easy!), and the power fists are painted identically.

Seriously, look at it, think about it, you'll soon agree!

If I can have the modquisition's permission, I will extract and upload the image in question from my 'electronic' copy of the document (I do also possess a hard copy, but I have no idea where it has gone, perhaps the snotlings have stolen it for later consumption/rendering down into fungus growth medium...)

This is my favourite space marine model, have one myself... (kinda regret converting it since the original bolt pistol is well cool)

When I got it I'm sure on the blister it just said Space Marine Captain. But as some other people have said I have seen him listed as a an Imperial Fists captain in some publication somewhere.

I dunno, the glimpse of badge we get is red, almost like the Deathwing badge.

Anyway, I say just adopt the colours as your own and run with it

EDIT: Just realised how the above statements made my first point obsolete, but the second point stands

Not really sure why it matters, honestly. It's a cool model. That's really it. It's not unusual for GW to try random paint schemes.

I guessed Mortificator (although, I didn't know the name til I saw the earlier post) or White Panthers (of which I had a few painted as I loved the scheme)... either way, like everyon has been saying... run with it and make it your own!

Its deffo a dark angel, the shot just washed the green out from the darker areas. im sure i have the WD somwhere with that model in it. As with another oop dark angel cpt GW produced, the one with the sword pointing down and a massive feather bit on his helmet.

One of the 2 generic marine captains that got released with the model which became associated with captain tycho before the he had a specific model (generic BA captain which they named tycho WD139) a DA captain with the huge powersword (love that model!) smurfs captain and a SW captain which became a wolf guard model later in its life.
The model got scuplted into a IF one too when they did the army that came with the bits with fists symbols sculpted on them like shoulderpads, bits of kit etc.
The scheme think it's more akin to a panthers one if you're looking to fit into an already punlished chapter, or it's someones own scheme, could always use it if you like it

Or, seeing as how it's dark green and has a Dark Angels badge on it's shoulder as pointed out numerous times so far, it could be a Dark Angel.
