I would love to see your results using the yellow primer... that'd make it even faster!! I really do not have a lot of time to devote to painting, and having a method that is fast will hopefully motivate me to get this fantasy army painted in time for an escalation league that is starting here

So be sure to post pics of that rhino!! Also, for something that big, would you actually "dunk it" into the dip, or would you use a "splash/paint on" method instead?

Cosmic wrote: As a hardcore supporter of the Army Painter and all things dippidy-doo-dah, I approve! But seriously, "splash on" is the way to go. Well, I haven't tried "spinning" them once dipped but... I thinks I might gives it a go! Honestly, these Imperial Fist are awesome, I'm so glad that I've found this thread. I thought that the Strong Tone would be too, erm, strong for the yellow - but I was wrong! Well done!

*THREADJACK!*

This Guardsman was done by splashing on Soft Tone. There's a bit more to it than that but that's the basics. I hope that you don't mind. Just supporting the cause, y'see?

Thanks Cadaveri!

Hello,

they look great (the imperial fists also). Can you please give us the "recipe" for those guardsman?

Your models look fantastic! I have been considering the Amry painter line for awhile now...looks like it take alot of the work out of painting the models. Is there any particular reason you went with the strong tone as opposed ot the soft?

I like models with good shading, i dont know if the soft tone would have been enough for my taste its up to you

-- I think your decision to go with the strong tone really looks great. It not only provides the armor a very good sense of depth but also gives it the added element of appearing aged and tarnished by war! After seeing your results and the success army painter has on a yellow basecoat, I cant wait to start my Lamenters army. Again, impressive work and excellent technique on your Imp Fists!

Bring on the dippers! I did a large Tyranid force by dipping and they looked sweeeet! as do these imperial fists! nice job dude, they look better than some i've seen people 'over paint' for hours trying to get it to look right! easy, quick, good looking army, what more could you want? :-)

Okay, here goes...

- Whole Model:

1. Undercoat the model with Necrotic Flesh.

- Camo:

1. Paint Atronomican Grey first.

2. Use some kind of light brown to paint with next.

- Metallic areas:

1. Basecoat Astronomican grey.

2. Overcoat Mithril Silver.

3. Wash with slightly watered-down Badab Black.

- Flesh:

1. Basecoat Bleached Bone.

2. Wash with slightly watered-down Ogryn Flesh.

- Black areas:

1. Basecoat Adeptus Battlegrey.

2. Wash with slightly watered-down Badab Black.

- Gold Areas:

1. Basecoat Bubonic Brown.

2. Overcoat Burnished Gold.

- Finish everthing with a "splash on" of Quickshade Soft Tone.

DONE!

You could get away with Strong Tone, and forget about washing stuff first. Par example: flesh = paint Elf Flesh and then shade when dipped; or metal + basecoat Astronomican Grey, overcoat Chainmail and then finish when dipped. You don't have to basecoat the metallic areas, but it saves having to use two coats. Remember: metallics work better when painted on certain colours. Black is usually the best, but it isn't any good for light gold colours. More importantly: be experimental - mess around; find your own style!

Camo is really amazing with quickshade, as it does all of the intricate shading of all the colours for you! No painter could honestly do that with any ease!

Hope that this helps. Personally I prefer Cadeveri's simpler approach. Mine was more of test to see what I could do with Quickshade. In fact, I recommend Cadeveri's way over the that I did, as it's so much more fun!

When you say "splash on", can you give a bit more detail as to what exactly that means?

Coat thickly, remove excessive/puddle areas and let dry?

Something else?

Thanks!

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.
Welcome to Fantasy 40k

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

Hehe thx, funny thing is that the actual red highlights only took like tops 5-10minutes i just simply did this:

Base: AP Dragon Red Spray
1st Highlight: Blood Red
2nd: Blazing Orange
3rd & final: Slight Fiery Orange

this was all highlighted by quick drybrushing, obiously i had to use more time for the chest, but overall it was reeaaly quick.

couple of hours of work tops and you'd prolly end up with 5 man terminator squad that looks pretty much like this aswell

Wow! These are amazing. The red and yellow look so vivid. Excellent contrast against the bases and it sounds like it took very little work!. Two questions for you:

1. How long (approx) does it take you per regular marine?

2. Can you please post some WIP shots? I'm very curious to see the yellow before dipping and maybe a freshly guy?

Hey thanks! =)

1. after priming and putting the yellow wash over the white i'd say 5-15min per marine, depending on how neat paintjob you want.

2. WIP shots wont be available sry since i didnt take any pictures before they were done sry

Ill take some WIP shots in future, but i think this was the last time im going to use this method, im going to use the deamonic yellow primer from army painter.. if i dont like the result i will go back to my older
method.

Cheers!
