Hey,

So these are just basicly very quick and simple, completely dipped models. They are my very first dipped models so they have big clumbs of quickshade on them on some parts. If i'd do it again i'd use brush-on technique for sure

They were painted with:

1. White undercoat
2. Super yellow wash from Coat'd'arms + simple one color painting(no highlighting)
3. Army Painter Quickshade (the medium one, cant remember the name now)
4. Army Painter anti-shine varnish

Bases were done with:

1. Black Undercoat
2. Drybrush/overbrush of Codex Grey
3. Drybrush/overbrush of Fortress Grey
4. Drybrush/overbrush of White
5. Added some GW Dead Grass

Anyhow here are the HUGE pics ^_^ :

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not bad, but you may want to spin your models in future to help prevent the dip from pooling on the models.

I think the pooling looks kind of cool in some places , what Quickshade were you using ?

totally agree with you

prolly was the last time i use the dipping method though, brush-on seems to be less messy and you dont spend that much material ^_^

Let me add my voice to the chorus - WELL DONE!

These are some VERY nice Imperial Fists, and it seems as if you've found an 'easy' way to do a very challenging color and do it well - congrats!

Not bad at all! I may have to steal the Yellow Recipe when I come to attempt some Marines Malevolent! How does Black respond to some Quick Shade? The Marines Malevolent Scheme doesn't feature Black very heavily at all, so it's not a big issue, but I don't want gak results.

(I actually debated purchasing some Strong Tone several times, but each time, I - for one reason or another - didn't get around to it, or decided against it. This is the final straw, though, and I'm definitely going to order some. The results suit me perfectly, when one considers the minimal effort and time that it takes to bash out Dipped Minis.)

+ Edit + As an afterthought, could you post a list of the Colours you used? Cheers.

I think they look really nice too, great quality table top in not much time at all (I imagine).

How did you find the anti-shine varnish? Does it give a really matte finish? I'm thinking of getting some as an alternative to Dullcote for my whole army as it'd be cheaper.

Wow! I'm considering doing some yellow trolls for fantasy, and had been looking at dipping at a possibility- so what a timely thread for me!

Two questions:
1. What base colors did you use? (Someone also asked this above). Specifically, what was the base-color for the yellow?

2. In step 2 of your list, I assume you applied all of the base colors, and then applied Super Yellow wash from Coat'd'arms to just the yellow areas? It sounded like it was the other way around...

Forgive the noob-ish questions, but this yellow looks fantastic, and I may well copy it

Not bad, I'd certainly spin them to remove some of the excess but it's certainly a lot faster than my method and the results are rather nice.

My only tip would be to take care with the red, there are a few places where the paint has got onto other parts of the model.

I'd feel dirty having an army look that good for so little effort! I'll agree that the pooling is a little weird and you should spin after you dip. Other than that this stuff looks pretty sweet.

Black and quickshade, its pretty neutral result after doing antishine layer of varnish, with some highlights on the black i'd say it will look good, gonna use some on my necrons

Colors:

Base: White Spray Primer
Red: GW Blood Red
Yellow: Coat'd'arms super yellow wash
Metal: GW Boltgun Metal
Purity Seals: GW Bleached Bone
bags on the belt are GW Vermin Brown

for the base i used:

black, gw codex grey, gw fortress grey & white

i think thats about it

Yup tabletop quality ^^

I used Army Painter Antishine spray, it gives a matte finish, i suppose you could use dullcote aswell

www.thearmypainter.com is where you can get the one im using though.

Go for it! ^^

answers:

1. I primed to models with GW white primer, then basecoated every armorplate with coat'd'arms super yellow wash. After that i just picked up the colors which needed painting(blood red, boltgun metal, vermin brown, bleached bone etc..)

2. I Actually applied the yellow super wash before putting the other colors in, sry for disturbing tutorial ^^

I think the pooling gives them a heavy battle field weathered feel and the yellow is as solid as I have seen puts most of my fists to shame

Sorry, but what exactly is "dipping"? It makes me think of dipping a model in a big bowl of paint

Ah. I was about right then! Thanks. I guess dipping it in citadel paints would be stupid then Good thing I didn't try it!

looking very kools there, i may use this idea when helping my brother paint his marines. also as much as it looks cool in some places you should spin oyur models to stop pooling

a cow and a calf are cut in half, and put into some cases, to call it art, however smart, casts doubt on arts hole basis.

As a hardcore supporter of the Army Painter and all things dippidy-doo-dah, I approve! But seriously, "splash on" is the way to go. Well, I haven't tried "spinning" them once dipped but... I thinks I might gives it a go! Honestly, these Imperial Fist are awesome, I'm so glad that I've found this thread. I thought that the Strong Tone would be too, erm, strong for the yellow - but I was wrong! Well done!

*THREADJACK!*

This Guardsman was done by splashing on Soft Tone. There's a bit more to it than that but that's the basics. I hope that you don't mind. Just supporting the cause, y'see?

Thats a great looking force you've got. I'm a big fan of the red trim for the 3rd company. It looks even better backed up by the red bolters! Have you named the captain of the 3rd? I like that for the Imperial Fists there's still the flexibility to name captains and make stuff up, unlike the Ultramarines who have everybody named and all their history mapped out already!!!

How did you apply the transfers on the shoulders? Did you do them after dipping or before? Does the dullcoat/anti-shine varnish take the shine off the transfers? I need to get me some of this...

I applied transfers before dipping(i think they would'v been too bright & "shiny" without the dip, with the dip they settle quite nicely tbh =)

and thx for the comments guys ^_^

Very Beautiful figures. perhaps this could be the way to go when I do my pre-heresy marines.

The black rage is within us all. Lies offer no shield against the inevitable. You speak of donning the black of duty for the red of brotherhood; but it is the black of rage you shall wear when the darkness comes for you.
