Well I may be opening a can of worms here but...

I have a Sabre Legion marine for Great Marine Swap ready for you, he would have been in the post already but I haven't finished his backpack and my 40skaven have recently taken up all my modelling time.

Excuses aside I was wondering if you have a design in mind for a shield?
The reason I say shield is I don't think the chestplate I did for my Sabre Legion are quite right for your chapter, they are less breastplate than naked chest but I could do sculpt a shield for you, make up a mould, cast a few and sent the mould and casts to you with the GMS marine?

Just a thought, not sure if you are up to that point yet or even if you want to do a "spartan" type shield at all. It mainly comes to mind because it would be relatively easy to sculpt and cast

Personally I don't think that the shields should be the same though. SM are more of a band of heroes than an army of soldiers, as such they are equipped in a different manner to formations such as the Imperial Guard. I think individual shield designs or heraldries should be used to add a little bit more character to your army. I think a more Athenian concept rather than an Spartan concept would give you the individuality you want.

Black hand it could be an idea to sculpt two of three blank shields of different sizes though. This would represent the natural progression that all armour and wargear goes through. It would further emphasise that fact that these shields were honoured artefacts and not just a bulk order from AdeptusMechcanicus.com.

"Athenian" meaning a group of heroic warriors instead of a squad of soldiers?

I could always make a "blank" shield with no heraldic device which would allow Tony_nids to freehand personal devices on the shields for each warrior.

No sorry I didn't make my self clear, the concept of Sm as a band of rank and file soldiers I think is disappearing these days thanks largely to the BL novels. Personally I see each marine as one of the Imperium's greatest heroes, as such I think the concept of individuals fighting as a whole is better than the IG idea of a sea of faceless/nameless billions.

The Athenian concept was more to do with the shield design, since each man eligible to fight was required to supply his own wargear shields were decorated in a more personal and stylised way, depicting favoured gods or heroes. My point is that it would renforce the idea of individual heroes fighting as one.

If you go with the Greek style just remember the hoplite shield is big bad not the little sissy shields from warhammer that I used. In my defence though I only used them because Blackhand hadn't done his thread on casting yet, .

A Blank shield or 3 would be amazing! I don't mind the hijack if it ends with me having some awesome BLACKHAND shields and a mold or two

There is nothing I would like more than to make each one unique. I will do my absolute best to do so!

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks again for all the ideas! There is one small item I want to talk about. I have to fund this project somehow and I was wondering if anyone was interested in some Tyranids?!? As well as everything in the thread below I will toss in pretty much every Tyranid bit I own... Not a small amount either. So please take a look and maybe help keep the Emperor's Shields going!

Tony, for facial hair there are lots of ways to paint it (although I have to say I couldn't really do it ). Stubble is one of the obvious ones..

I was thinking more along the lines of some GS work. I would have better luck painting it

@Vignor- There will be more battle brothers soon I promise! At the moment I am waiting (drooling the whole time) for some things a friend is custom making for me I swear it will be well worth the wait!

Oh and in oddly related news... I picked up a set of Sang guard to sift through for torsos and other bits. If anyone is interested I will have some bits left over too.

oh i was just curious lol i haven't remember you say anything about the number of marines you were going to make or how many points your chapter is going to be worth...its one of the questions thats slipped my mind for the past month

Git, that means a ton to me. I will have some fellows assembled soon enough. They are left a little separated for the sake of painting ease. If I had something to use to show what they are going to look like (blutac) I would but sadly I don't... :(

Mini update!!! I've been spending a ton of time carving BA icons off of the Sang guard bits I plan on keeping. There are more useful than just the torsos

No worries vig. I am a bit of an insomniac thanks to this new job so sitting up till 3 am trimming doesnt seem so tough. Waking up with the boys in the morning is much less fun though

i would be interested, i am in need of BA parts for my BA army im going to start converting up. i'm looking for arms and heads.

Arms I think I may need though. If you want the heads for sure let me know since I'm only using 2 or 3 from the kit.

I love the death company bits. Probably going to buy some stuff when i get the chance ^.^ good luck.

I love Death Company bits too but I don't think they fit as well with the E'sS.

Sang Guard are cool looking when i buy them i'm going to use them as Honor Guard or Vanguard.

Between all the bits I'm going to have them spread across 3 or 4 squads!
