I'm not into positive messages, really.
It's not the "offensive" stuff that bugs me...I find alot of that quite amusing as well.
It's the repetitive " I'm a Gangsta...with this car and these jewels and that house and them shoes and this toaster oven!!" that bore me.

You do realize that Mike Shinoda released a rap album?
I voted for 'I don't really care'. But yeah, sometimes rap makes me feel a bit frustrated with the modern world.
My biggest pet peeve would be this one time I was doing some community service work. They don't allow you to use headphones, but do allow you to play music if your player has speakers. (Weird, huh?) But yes...I was playing 'Dies Irae' , kind of humming along to it. Cue other 14 year old kid working with me: "Dude, what is that? Is that Lil' Wayne?" I'm not sure if he was messing with me, or really that ignorant but yes.... Mildly OT. Sorry all.

When I was around 17 I used to be into car audio competitions often. I would run the 2 12's dual voice coil comps. Anywho Id listen to rap and techno alot during that time. It was awesome but I blame my hearing loss on it. I would hit 151.1 decibels regularly, not world record breaking but seeing as your average "system" guys hit around 120-130, 151 is incredibly loud. I had to spray foam everything loose, and even had a buddy lay on the hatchback of my car, because the pressure would separate the molding and cause sound loss
Everything post-Tupac/Biggie is pretty terrible. I'll admit some modern songs are catchy, however.
I think alot of the hate towards Rap is mostly social stigma based of the generalization that just because our country defines this:
...as Rap...gets peple to think that the entire genre is this unintelligent crap. Artists like Tupac, Nas, Biggie, Canibus; they're actually genuinely good artists with recognizable talent.
Soulja Boy? Lil Wayne? Wakka Flocka Flame? Gucci Mane? GTFO...
Now I'll take some good Metal over rap any day, but it has its place in the music world. At least the old stuff does. Nas said it himself, "Hip-hop is dead."
Also, GES, I love Hollywood Undead, but they are not rap and they have no place in this thread.

I hate Death metal, all rock must be death metal right. I mean I hear rock on the radio and it sucks, so all rock must suck. And all gamers are stinky lonely losers.....
Fist rap you hear on the radio isn't gansta rap, it's club rap, Made by white execs to sale to a young white and black group who go out partying on the weekend at clubs. That's why all they sing about is booze and money. that's what you have in (strip)clubs.
Gansta rap Was huge in the 90's and started as a F the man and his rules and fight the powers that be. If you ever have some time watch the Eazy-E documentery on behind te music. To sum it up NWA was all about fun and making money then a guy named Suge Knight came in and things got bad. Gasta rap as you know it pretty much died with 2 pac (who was a good rapper but a lousy friend)
West coast ganst rap was know for Docer dres' "west side Whistle effect and speaker busting bass lines done on a 6 string bass.
East coast rap is les about the music and more about the lyrics. Most songs have a deep political or social message lots of times they play live instruments and are poets as well. Here you'll find groups like the Roots who are some of the best entertainers you'll never hear.
Southern rap usually features music focused on how hard life can be. Here you'll find groups like Outkast and Goody mob. A stand out here is Cee-lo. Whom you may know as one half of the group Gnarls Barkly You can check him out performing with abbey road here
Florida has it's own style of rap pioneered by a man named 'Uncle Luke" who loved to come out dressed like Luke skywalker...till he got sued. Said stile of rap was called booty music. the beats were insanely fast as were the raps, all the better to get spring break girls to shake their buttocks as fast as possible, ah, them were the days!
The lyrics were always light hearted fun and silly "this is my pinky this is my thumb bank head bounce DONKEY KONG!"
here is a fun little diddty "called My baby daddy"
Lot's of "Old school rap told tales of people who lived life fast and died quick, to serve as a warning to others. Here is a fav of mines from the 80's that scared the *&^% out of me as a kid.
So there is a quick little wak down of rap and hip hop. Well it's just the tip or the ice berg but enough for now.
And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
I am a fan of some hip hop rap but not all, I do appreciate the more feelgood stuff an old stuff, some of Jazzy Jeff and the fresh prince is priceless, but i'm definitely more inclined to listen to hip hop from the mid 90's, and i've just been listening to a guy called R.A the Rugged man, he's not bad either, been around for a while just hiding under rocks for those who want to listen to find! give me a nice sunny day, sunroof open cruising down the highway listening to Sir Mix A Lot and i'm a happy man! doesn't feel the same listening to the other crap that people listen too then judge hip hop as bad. there is just too much other stuff out there we all don't like, to each there own I say!

I'm not a fan of all this mainstream crap, but I can do old Snoop Dogg, some Tech N9ne and some Bone Thugz N Harmony. That's about it. Everything else is subpar.
Its a shame that G-baby has left us, he actually had very good taste in music. Even if his explanatory narrative behind the commercialization of rap was grossly incorrect.
Apparently the dude never listened to Nas, Jay-z, or K-OS if he believed that only White rappers were allowed to break genre conventions.
Anyway, I dig good rap. I say good, as opposed to underground/indie/non-mainstream (even though I cast my vote for underground, that being the prime source of good rap) because I'm not the sort of person that conflates popular music with bad music. If music is good, then it is good. The infrastructure surrounding its quality is irrelevant.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Quoted for absolute fething TRUTH.
I have absolutely no time for 'popular=good' or 'popular=bad'-type arguments. They are BOTH moronic viewpoints.
Holy gak, there is this british rap band called The Streets or something like that, and they are FETHING TERRIBLE. Their music is even bad for RAP! (I chose the last option). It's not even rap. It's some guy talking about random stuff with random sounds in the background. But it is so hilariously horrible that me and a friend bought one of their CD's just to annoy the crap out of people we don't like.
May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )

Fact is, most music is bad. You have crap pop music because a lot of it is selling to teenagers more obsessed with being cool than quality. Then you have crap underground music that doesn't ever sell because it is actually bad.
