Quoted for Truth.

But what is really disturbing is the number of Union Jacks deploring a model that practically screams out in tribute to a nation's rich aviation history and the sacrifices made by countless young men on their behalf - all during the 70th anniversary of the greatest defensive air campaign in history.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

I'm checking them out. I'm seeing a lot of people making pretty reasoned points, sharing opinions, and one person whose decided to insult everybody posting in this thread for having an opinion that's less than rabidly enthusiastic.

Spoiler:
It's you!

You know, you might be right. I think somebody in this thread is working through some issues.

Spoiler:
It's you again.

I'm not even going to address the threadbare "unless you can create you can't critique" fallacy, but I leave you with this question: How much negativity addressed at public companies product must exists for a person to feel justified in being incredibly rude and insulting to them? I'm just curious if you have a rule of thumb, or just play it by ear.

You're connecting ambivalent attitudes towards a 28mm sculpture of a dwarf to the collapse of British patriotism? You sir have a a future in whatever the UK's equivalent of the GOP is!

I didn't say anything about creative/critical skills being linked.

I was simply pointing out that many of the super-negative opinions on this Forum will scream and squeal blue murder, demanding others agree. I decided to take the piss. Others reacted.

Had a subscription for 3 years. Back when I did it, I got a battlebox (for two years) and something else I can't exactly remember (probably a couple of boxed sets). Also, the amount spent gave me enough Skullz to order a cool marine diorama.

Now it's just so... bland. I didn't renew it back then because I was losing interest in the contents of the magazine, but I would pick it up again for the 'eavy metal masterclasses and showcases - if only they didn't appear to be so erratic - and if a cool deal came along. I wonder who they're trying to please, because it's obviously not the costumer.

I like this. I also liked the White Dwarf in Space. I don't like the magazine, so I will likely pick this up on ebay without the extra dead trees (like I did the space dwarf). Just to have something interesting to paint.

No notice in the mail, no phone call, no incentives, nothing!

Weird!

You might have the problem that I did, which is that their database died, and not all customers were recovered. Thus, they effectively had no idea that I was a subscriber, and did not contact me for renewal. The guy I talked to about this was very appologetic, and I got the missing issues from the lapse of my prior subscription to the new one sent to me.

At $80 though, not sure that it was all that worth it... that used to get you two years, AND some free models.

Both of you share some of my thoughts. The mag has gotten very, very expensive for a magazine. Also, every other mag Ive ever seen has had some sort of offer for a discounted subscription inside it. I can see selling for full price on the website, but you would think each issue would have a ad or coupon for a discounted subscription.

Sorry but this is complete poppycock old thing.
Please don't associate this figure with the Battle of Britain.
It is a fantasy dwarf aeronaut to promote subscriptions for a gaming mag.
A White Dwarf, whatever the merits or otherwise of the sculpt, is not a fitting tribute to the sacrifice made by the men and women of Britain in 1940.

What is it about this figure that screams a tribute to those pilots other than a caricature handle bar moustache?
The reference is more to do with Dwarf Dirigibles or gyrocopters.
It looks nothing like a pilot that represets our proud avaiation heritage that has recently been brutally terminated.
If anything, it is demeening to those who lost lives, or were dreadfully disfigured.

It is not a particularly exciting sculpt imho .
Others are quite at liberty to disagree with my assessment and I have no problems with that.
Ditto the magazine.
Mr M your ravening post was most unbecoming. Do calm yourself down sir, lest you have another fit of the vapours.

WHAAAA?!!! have you not seen the news. This my friends is the poppycock. Our Avaiation heritage has not been brutally terminated... Our wise Government, unless I'm mistaken are investing in a brand new carrier to support our war planes.

Now they just need to speed up the buying of planes for said carrier........

Heah, every other subscription comes with 3 whole pages worth of painting tips and advise .

Though, I have to agree, attaining another limmited edition dwarf model really doesn't impress the 40k collector in me. I was much more impressed when White Dwarf came out with a splash release of thier Assault on Blackreach Box set which included a plastic terminator and a plastic orc with the issue.

I have been subscribed for 3 years and each time my trial comes up for renewal, I get no advance notice. Then when I cal them up to renew, there is typically a 4 month lapse before I get any new magazines. I did ask about the laspse in subscriptions, and thier advise last time was to order from my LFGS.

Got that. So buy it from someone that gets the subscription for a lot less than the subscription costs......................... That way they get rid of a useless model while getting part of the cost of the overpriced subscription back, and you get your collector's model.

Note the Dwarven airship artwork on the box cover to go along with the aviation theme of the new White Dwarf model. Now one might ask, could there be a Dwarf Airship model for Warhammer in the foreseeable future?

I miss the days when individual White Dwarf issues included freebies like this. One of my first White Dwarfs was back when they released Mordheim and it came with a limited edition elf special character. Nowadays you have to buy a years worth to get a model that probably won't get used...

More like:
Make a Dwarf model->Intend it for White Dwarf as a Subscriber's Bonus->End of Story, but Internet Whiners Will Assume It Was Meant For Games Day.

I mean really, why would you think this was ever intended for a Games Day?
They have, without fail, for the past few years made some kind of Dwarf model in a wacky costume/posing/theme to have as a bonus to White Dwarf subscribers. I can't actually think of, in almost a decade, them ever having a Dwarf model for Games Days.

That "limited edition Elf special character" wasn't. It was Aenur, The Sword of Twilight and up until a few years ago he was still available via the webstore.

They've never(as far as I know) really released "exclusive" models with White Dwarf issues. They've pretty much always been a single model off a sprue from a starter set, or a pair of them(like the Terminator/Ork from Black Reach).

And why do the people who dislike White Dwarf magazine and everything associated with it insist on having to tell everybody about it every chance they get? Such posts are repetitive and add nothing constructive to these threads. We get it, some people don't like White Dwarf. No need to repeat it ad nauseum in every thread where the words White and Dwarf appear together.

If you mean criticism of White Dwarf specifically, uh, no. If you mean time wasting useless repetitive posts that clog up threads and make it hard to find useful information, that would be affirmative.

That's what I meant

Criticism is all fine and dandy.

Endless criticism, especially when you don't even read the product even without buying it, is repetitive and obnoxious.
