But given the general trend of his posts I have no doubt that he said something intended to either insult me or goad me and I genuinly find that funny because he probably kept going and I'm ignoring him

Anyway I would like for this discussion to continue absent the mention of his remarks aimed at myself and to focus on the greatness that was (and still is) the Firefly series

Are you referring to Serenity or The Train Job? (Serenity in this case referring to the two-part first episode)

Not the shows fault (it was a good series), but unfortunate never the less...

I love it, it's a shame there isn't more to see though. Can't watch the same 13 episodes on a constant loop though, you really get into it and then you run out, though there is the film. Sad.

Problem seems to be the cut-throat way Fox treat TV programmes, especially SF ones. Their archives must be a graveyard of things they largely helped to kill off or scrapped because they didn't instantly perform. Take Firefly, instead of showing the pilot they ignored that and started with the second episode and proceeded to show the next 9 out of order, then they showed the pilot and dumped the last 3. Which were therefore first seen on the DVD release. Then they complained they got low ratings and axed it. What sort of way is that to treat a TV show? Sheesh. Put it along other things treated like a bastard child and axed like Sarah Connor Chronicles and Dollhouse.

Other SF series not served well are Alias, Heroes and Angel, all had good runs but were mistreated or cancelled in their final season when they expected to go on. Things like Battlestar Galactica were able to work towards an end date of a few seasons which worked very well. Angel and Heroes had the rug pulled from under them during the last season so are rather open ended, while Alias was shifted to a poorly scheduling spot and had episodes cut so ended up going out on a bit of a whimper.

I agree, there was alot of problems with Fox when it came to Firefly but they did insist on a happier Mal which in turn made the character who he was.

Heroes is another example of greatness lost :(

I didn't watch the show until after the movie. When I heard the story about how the movie got made I was blown away! That's one instance where a fan petition actually did work...

Adore firefly. Show being cancelled did result in 4 exquisite episodes, too: the fact that the Funeral scene in The Wake was shot just after they all learned it had been canned made it all the more powerful. I found the comic sequel (season 3, effectively) a little disappointing, though. Also, Chwetel Ejifor was awesome. Can never watch Love Actually in the same way!

One of mine and the wifes favorite 'series'. We enjoyed the characters, the banter, and the 'space cowboy' feel to it.

Its funny how a thread is derailed, and 'Frazzled' imediately jumps in with the 'Modquisition' line, but when Frazzled derails a thread, there's seemingly no issue............

Firefly was an awesome show and a real damm shame it was cancelled. I didn't even know of its existance until after I'd seen the movie on the cinema. Jane was by far my favourite Character. Best 2 scene's is him offering his gun to Maclom in exchange for the wife, and the second is I think on the last episode, where the ship is in danger, but everyone is asleep, Jane wakes up at the sound of commotion on the ship, to pull away a curtain revealing his arsenal of weapons. Just as you think he's going to tool up, he simply rools over using the curtain as a blanket to go back to sleep!

So, funny Firefly story.

I work in a retail store, right? Well, since the usual person is off for vacation, I was asked to stock an area I usually don't. Anyway, When I get there, there are three people standing there talking to eachother. After a few minutes and a few choice words come out of their mouths, I ask "You guys wouldn't happen to be talking about Firefly, would you?" Two of them proceeded to laugh and smile, and the third one just said "Damn, these guys are coming out of the god damn wood work....."

Another funny story I got out of them; One of them follows Nathan Fillion on Twitter, and he once Tweeted "I just got addressed as Captain by some random guy in passing walking down the street. That made my day."

Yes, I liked firefly. In fact I loved it. Shame the network in their arrogance and stupidity cancelled it even without finishing the series and waiting for the final ratings.

Serenity finished it off nicely. Wash being finished off nicely was also nice. ly.

The above mentioning of Wash should be spoilered for those who haven't seen it

Firefly is a western sci-fi show set after a galactic civil war. The only super powers that have emerged from Earth are China and America which banded together to become the Alliance which then went out to take control of the greater galaxy but some planets resisted. Those who fought against the Alliance where called Brown Coats.

The story follows a man named Malcolm who along with his first mate where Brown Coats. He owns a Firefly class ship called the Serenity, he and his crew act as mercenaries doing smuggeling and theft jobs etc. Besides the crew there is also have a girl named river and her doctor brother named simon who are running from the Alliance because they expiramented on River and want her back. So those 2 plot lines cause most of the adventures of the show.

I'm hoping it comes back.

Firefly was totally awesome.

Yes, Nathan Fillion was good.

Yes, the banter was well done (and the Mandarin profanity was brilliant).

Much of the rest was contrived. Joss Whedon does contrived quite well.

Another vote for blue gloves here.

It will not be returning (for at least 20 years, when it will get a 're-imaging/re-imagining/reboot' and be so unlike the original that the two fanboys still proclaiming the show's virtues will post 5 page diatribes against it on the internets from their parent's basements - where they still live.) and for this I can be thankful.
