Thanks Guys. I appreciate the encouragement. I still have plenty of SW if I really want to game, but TBH, I'm more interested in the painting and modelling aspect right now.
There are so many conversion opportunities with some of the wonderfull new small companies offer bits, custom shoulderpads and so many other fiddly bitz to play with. I just wish I had another $5-600 to throw at the hobby. A company of nohing but FW marines would be awsome. :-P

Hey wolf, coming along nicely. With the photos it's a little hard to see & make specific suggestions, but you might thinking about lining the recesses with a dark wash (use a brush) and some edge highlighting to make the pop a bit. My apologies if you already have these covered, as I said... hard to tell.

I'm really low on supplies (6 paints, and a can of spray primer and some plastic glue) , so no washes yet. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up some supplies on Wed or Thursday. Hence why everything is still WIP.
I'm hoping to pick up a box of IH, and some paints at the local GW, and some major re-enforcements in the nature of a pretty major swap with another Dakka member.
Really need some dullcoat (Purity seal) to dull down the minis too.

Well, no modelling updates as of yet. Hopefully that will change tomorrow and thursday.
Tomorrow I'm hoping to pick up an Iron Hands box @ the local GW. Thursday, I'm hoping to complete a major trade that will significantly augment my chapters combat abilities.
Anyhow, a bit of fluff. I've tossed a few ideas around. This is what I've come up with so far:
Background Chapter: Ebon Gauntlets
Sucessor Chapter to the Iron Hands Space Marines, they follow the Codex Astartes, but have a significantly higher % of marines that have visible cybernetic Augmetics, as they have some of the same reverence for the Omnissah that their parent chapter does.
The Ebon Gauntlets are a fleet based chapter, who recruit on worlds that they campaign on, with particularly noteworthy members of the PDFs and sometimes particularly brave members of the Imperial Guard that they have fought with are offered the chance to test to undergo the process of becoming a Space Marine. They are Fleet Based, as their homeworld was destroyed by a Necron incursion, wiping out their Fortress Monestary, and causing heavy losses to the reserve companies of the Chapter, which they have still not recovered from.
As such, the Chapter has a virulent hatred for the Necrontyr, and will sometimes divert away from whatever their current primary mission is to destroy any Necrontyr forces they may encounter. Their hatred of the Necrontyr has resulted in a fairly cordial relationship with the Ordo Xenos of the Inquisition, with many Veteran Marines serving with the DeathWatch, and almost all members of the chapter command structure, Librarians, Chaplains, and line Command Staff have served in the DeathWatch at one time or another, and many still wear the DeathWatch shoulder pad to honor that service. Many veterans still use the Ancient DeathWatch pattern bolters in their tireless fight against the Xenos threats to the Imperium.
The Chapter has ancient ties still with the Ordo Mechanicus, and the Chapter has a higher than average number of Techmarines. The Master Of the Forge frequently sees direct combat, overseeing operations and maintaining watch on the # of Dreadnuaghts and Thunderfire Cannons that the Chapter fields.
They also maintain an ancient SuperHeavy Fellblade tank that they TechMarines will, on dire need, remove it from Stasis, and field it from their primary Battle Barge.

After a pretty massive trade witha fellow Dakkaite, I now have more than enough models to keep me going for a while. I placed an order with maxmini for some Bionic bitz, and I'm hoping to order a box or 2 of Iron Hands from GW at some point, which aside for a tank or 2, should leave me in pretty good shape for this army, with plenty of bitz left over.
I'm really hoping that they give us a plastic Libby at some point. That would make for some nice conversion/kitbash possbilites.
If the wife hasnt hijacked the camera, hopefully I'll have soem pics later on today.

He's a kitbash from some De-chaos'd CSM. One of my first test minis for the scheme. I really liked the PF, but also really liked his bolt pistol, which closely resembles a DW patter bolter. Hes posed looking down the sights/tageter of the BP shooting at somthing. Having the PF upwards without bending the arm looked kind of silly. Basically he was from parts that I wanted to use but only had a few available. Not sure if he's going to stay put together at all. He may be 'sacrificed' for the benifit of the imperium. (IE used for parts.)
I'm not sure where I got those MK1 helmets. I think I might have either bitz ordered them or bought an Iron Warriors box or somthing. They are metal.
Anyone point out where they are from. I bought them so long ago I don't remember.

I really have to figure out how to get some decent photos. The ppics really dont show the detail on the minis that well. I didnt get all that much done this weekend as I actually had to do 'work' while @ work yesturday.
Hoping that the OT that I have to work this holiday season gives me a nice bit of $ for models. We shall see what comes from the swap shop as well. :-)
I have my eye on quiet a few conversions. I want to see if I can find someone to sculpt me a 1 head for artificer type armour, and then maybe make a few extras.

Best advice I can offer for photos no matter what they are, make sure your light source is in front of the model. If the light is bright behind your model it will always be a dark picture.
Looking good btw

And thanks.

So things have be quiet on the modelling front for the past few days. Been working the swap shop pretty hard though, and should have some bitz and reiforcements on the way soon. I also caved, and bought 2 boxes of Iron Hands off the GW website, along with the Techmarine with Servo Harness. (Potential MOTF)
Also went out today and hit a couple of local business for some sensible purchases.
A Bitz box and 2 Micropens. Micropens are surprisingly cheap and holy **** is the tip tiny. .07mm
I got a black one and a red one.

Not yet. Prob something to do with sand and rocks, as I live right next to a beach and basing materials are free.
My last ones were pretty simply done with PVA and sand.
I want to get my hands on some cork for 'rock' but TBH, it migh just be easier to go down to the beach and pick up some real rocks.
EDIT: Anyone have any ideas on how to do a Psychic hood from plastic? I'm going to do my Libby out of a plastic kitbash, prob with one of those bloody awsome new Kromlech Kopesh' for a force weapon. I really dont like most of the metal libbys.

You might experiment with colors and textures. The right base with colors that compliment/contrast the figure can really make it stand out. I don't think my figures would look anywhere near as good as they do without the basing system I cooked up.
I'm not suggesting you use MY basing system mind you... but I think considering carefully how the base will interact with the figure can make a big difference in the overall effect.

Oh, I definately will contemplate the basing scheme. I may hold off on basing for a while so I can figure out a scheme once I have the budget for some decent basing supplies. I dont even have any PVA glue on hand at the moment.
And I really am stoked to get into converting/modding some minis, but so much of that is on hold waiting for bitz and ordered stuff to arrive in the mail. Even my 2 IH boxes from GW haven't arrived yet.

Maybe you could take a small diameter thin walled piece of PVC pipe, and then use some actual wires from something like a cat-5 cable or some guitar or other wires, to fabricate a psychic hood.
