Today's photo dumpage. Some work done on the chipping on Omnio (gotta love brand new Series 7's), and the CAT painted up. I'm liking the blue backdrops a lot more than the black - so much easier to photograph on.

Omnio:

Love it. I only have one tiny complaint this time. The wax for the purity seal looks too close a color to the armor. I'd purple it out a bit more like the ones the 'eavy metal team painted

Nice chipping! It looks very realistic. The little cable on his arm is a nice touch with the stripes.

I agree with BBL, i would purple out the purity seal to make it stand out more!

the glow on these models is beautiful, amazing work all and all!

Looking very nice, how is it that they put so many cool details into these and the plastic sm termie set for 40k is so bland in comparison :( love the guy with the scanner in the pf!

Probably a combination of factors:
1) More experience with the combnation digital sculpting tools and traditional methods and how they work with 2 part steel moulds allowing better planning of the sprue itself
2) Fixed equipment loadout, pose and character design allowing more intricate combination of parts - (ie soft joints, cables etc), and more characterisation in the sprue space allowed (custom heraldry etc.
3) No need for 'easy to assemble', partly due to the previous 2 factors in combination with it being a niche product. The SH termies are (IMO) way, way harder to put together (mostly in just getting off the frame) and clean up without borking the detail than the standard ones.

The painting looks great, I'm really impressed by the lighting effects and the basing is quite nice too. You should have a very happy client!

I second that. It was stupidly hard to get the models of the sprue. I only damaged one model (the model you painted winter ) because the sprue was connected to that big scanner on his shoulder, and when I cut it off, it took a bit of the scanner with it

Be ready man, these guys are a chore to get through lol! I am just finishing up my own Omnio, CAT and Claudio today... I'm gonna have to at least keep up with you, considering I started working on mine month's ago lol!

I really like the bases, provides such a great contrast to the reds.

The whites on Noctis' power armor look amazing. Great Job! If your client does not approve I grant you authority to smack them.

Sorry to try and steal trade secrets, but the white on noctis is the exact grey/white I've been trying to get for my dusk raiders. Could you share the recipe for that too?

I second the basing comments, great contrast for the reds. Nice choice!

The red is a zenithal basecoat of VMC Burnt Cadmium red, through blood red (VMC flat red), through VMC Amarantha red, up to VMC Amarantha red / VMC Tan Yellow, shaded down with GW Asurmen Blue glazes, then brought up with GW Blood Red and VMC Amarantha Red glaze, with extreme highlights of Amarantha Red / VMC Sunny Skintone. The whole lot is then given a very gentle glaze of Baal Red.

The white is codex grey->fortress grey->fortress grey/skull white, with pure white extreme highlights. Take your time, use thin paints and blend it up, don't try to go for pure white off the bat.

And how do you do the osl?

The green: thin glazes of snot green, snot green/scorpion green, and highlight edges with scorpion green. Highlight light sources with scorpion green / VMC Ivory

The blue: thin glazes of ultramarines blue, ultramarines blue / VMC ivory. More VMC ivory to highlight further.

The yellow, same trick again, just using golden yellow instead of UM blue.

Noctis looks cool, i like the pose of that terminator. He would make a good vanilla term serg with all the blood drops shaved etc.

And a group shot. Note the added 'gore' on Noctis. These guys are angry you spilled their ketchup. And they will find you.

Yup! I'm the happy owner of these babies!

Winterdyne's attention to detail and exquisite brush-fu brings these miniatures to life.

Winter is also a delight to work with so anyone interested should check out his blog. All of you can queue commissions after he finishes my queue.

Can't wait for the next update!

I should point out that queue is very long. And growing. But I'm sharing the blog with a few other painters who are also excellent.

Can't claim it's original - the studio scheme actually has a blue tint on the hammer. I just pushed it out some with OSL. Also that chalice on his arm is officially my most hated detail *ever*. I even went and bought some zip kicker CA accelerant (having never felt I needed it before) after spending about an hour and a half trying to glue the bugger back on securely. And back together after running it over with my chair.

Fantastic stuff - very inspiring!

Love the contrast provided by the green bases, the details on them are great - really well tied together. The only thing I would say is that the clump foliage could use a few washes of the dirt type colour to tie it in more at the bottom and add some depth - otherwise, great job.

Cheers,

Dante

Lol ya, I'll go you one better! I snapped off just the STEM of the Chalice hanging off of Leon's assault cannon and had to glue the bugger back on lol! I feel your pain brother.

I am really enjoying being able to compare our work and take note of your techniques etc. You were a main reason for me going osl crazy on my Claudio and Omnio, now I will rip it for the hammer too lol! Maybe not exactly the same way, I had done something similar on my Sigma marine (in the gallery) but I think a happy medium between the over the top I did and the nice and subtle of yours will be good.

Keep it up, I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the librarian most of all!
