I don't care much for RDJr so I didn't like Iron Man. IM2 looks better, but I've never seen it. X-Men was okay, X2 was only saved by Nightcrawler's awesomeness, X3 was terrible, and I thought Wolverine was okay, but I'm sure that it failed to portray characters accurately. Especially Deadpool.

Speaking of Wolverine, that reminds me, "X-men Origins Wolverine" was also awful! lol

That's what I meant when I said Wolverine, lol. The best thing that came out of that movie was my sister saying that she went to see it just to see Hugh Jackman naked.

Most superhero movies fail to do justice to the characters.

The frist Spidey was good.
As was X-Men.
Daredevil itself I thought was good, but Elektra is awful.
Hellboy is good.
Blade is good.
The original Superman movies are good (not perfect, but good).... but Superman Returns is a travesty that should have never made it to film.

Another mission, the powers have called me away. Another chance to carry the colours again. My motivation, an oath I've sworn to defend. To win the honour of coming back home again.

The old Dr. Strange movie was a spectacular low, even by the standards of its time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFCL0eCjnsA I think the whole thing is on youtube if.. if.... well, if you have issues. be warned though even copious amounts of mind bending drugs won't save you.

.. apart from the bit where he travels on the astral plane perhaps, but that's a whole other thread.

"The Shadow" and every non animated version "The Phantom" are also both super weak.

But the absolute worst has to be the Roger Corman Fantastic Four film -- knocked out purely to try and keep the license and ( allegedly) never actually intended for release/to be seen.... which they didn't bother telling the "actors".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcpmM-eTESI

Again the whole thing ( ho ho ) is, I think on Youtube. And on every day in some of the worst parts of hell it is believed.

I have heard rumour of these blackmarket/knock off films they used to make in South America, which basically ignore any and all copyright laws, ownership, rights etc etc. There is, apparently, a whole series of Batman films, including one where he eventually fights Dracula. The climax of which is a "duel" between summoned bat swarms, which is pretty much rubber bats on strings wobbling at each other.

As of yet though I've had no luck in tracking down a copy.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

Actually, considering that the movie and the comic started production at the same time, this one's kind of iffy. And I think I read somewhere that the writer of the comic liked the movie version more. Don't quote me on that though.

Anyway, my choice for absolute worst comic adaptation would be...

V for Vendetta. Talk about completely missing the point. Absolutely butchered the source material.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was absolute gak too. It's so sad seeing such a smart, funny comic turned into... that...

And Watchmen wasn't very good either. As a movie, it was just okay, but as an adaptation of the comic, it was really bad. Visually, it was fine, but they ended up missing the entire 'human' factor that made the comic so relatable. The complete lack of the newstand, criminal psychologist, and Hollis Mason ended up taking a lot from the film. When New York goes 'Boom!" you really have no reason to care. In the comic, characters that you really got to know ended up dying. And of course, the whole Hollis Mason thing was utterly sad. What's more, they took out my favourite scene in the comic (when Dr. Manhatton talks about the nature of time and perception).

...starting to notice a pattern here?

Anyway, top of my gak list belongs to V for Vendetta. At least Watchmen made an effort (it really should have been split into 2 or 3 parts), and as bad as the League was, it didn't try to shove a message down your throat while being horrible too.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned 300 yet. Maybe I am the only person who read the book before (years before) the macho musclefest action movie that MISSED ALL OF THE INTERNAL DIALOGUE OF LEONIDAS THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE BOOK!

In a work that was almost entirely centered on Leonidas' inner thoughts, would it have been too much to ask for a voiceover of his personal narration? Without it, it was just a gay man's violent wet dream full of loincloth clad young hunky greek types stabbing all the ugly clothed people.

personaly i liked Wolverine, and i will now definatly try to view that hasslhof fury movie. dont get me wrong, jackson is one hell of a good actor and i liked his atitude in lots of his films, but i cant stand his role as nick fury...its just not going to suit with me...
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen i rather liked too, and i really don´t understand the fuss about it... i was probably the one person on the planet to wait for a sequel to that...not that it will ever gonna happen anymore...
also being a big fan of the xmen i liked the movies and also i liked the FF movies....i made quite a sour face when i saw how twisted the storylines where for the big screen but never the less i enjoyed seeing my favorite heros in the movies...

also in the FF movies i could see my favorite hero Viktor von Doom for the first time in the flesh...thats worth a million^^

vik, for obvious reasons^^

oh that is quite clear i understand that we all have to live with quite a readers digest version of comic book adaptions for the big screen so no mistake here, but being a fan of the grumpy connery i lkied the movie, also i might add i lkied that arker woman quite a lot...so....^^

i even took what i could get out of the LotR movies and for my art they are but a stale adaption of the books too...

But at least the LotR movies stayed true to the source material.

The movie adaptation of the League threw out any sense of charactization and satire that the comic had. Allan Quarterman is a completely different (and much more entertaining) character in the comic. In fact, most of the characters are. The comic was a parody/satire/pastiche, and the movie threw that out the window, while adding plenty of unneeded elements (I can understand tossing in Dorian Gray, but Tom Sawyer makes NO SENSE).

As much as I love Sean Connery, his portrayl took away everything that made the character unique and fun. Which is a shame, because I could honestly see him playing the character from the comic quite well.

well that Tom sawyer char was the hardest pill to swollow for me too...now an adult and also a agent of the U.S.?? well that was a bit too far fetched...
well charcters get a lot crippled in movies and thus i wasn´t too much expecting greatness there, but it seems i should give the leaque a shot and try to get a read there...

Isn't that why Alan Moore has completely disassociated himself with that work, which he himself created?

I think that V is one of those comics that should NEVER have been made into a film, because the message that is portrayed in the book series is best presented in print, not film.

One that might be worth mentioning if it ever gets made is the Akira film. There is no way they could ever to the manga (or the anime version) any kind of justice. That WILL course rage around the world to levels here by nether seen before by mortal man.
Back on topic, didn't go much on Dark Waters, nore the Ring films as their mangas were much better, most of whats been mentioned here rightly deserves to stuff into room 101 and never spoken of again.

There's just so many horrid comic movies. It's hard to pick just one.

Batman & Robin, Superman IV, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine are the worst ones I've actually seen. I've managed to avoid most of the other monstrosities.

Also, what about newspaper comics. Anyone watch Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties?

I have to bring Spawn up as the most disappointed I've ever been by a comic book movie.

I didn't even watch Ghost Rider, because I couldn't handle my second favorite comic character getting the same treatment.

But since the film was directed by the same person who wrote the comic, I consider them seperate but equal visions.
