I gave my girlfriend, a sci-fi buff, Eisenhorn to read (kinda to get her into 40k a bit...). She loved it.

Nuff said!

Seconded in full!

Would like to offer a dissenting opinion here.

I really liked book 1 but books 2 and 3 were passable.

Book 3 seemed to be in a real hurry to end the story and ultimately left me feeling unsatisfied. Between the 2, Ravenor was more enjoyable and readable to me.

I also really enjoyed the 1st comissar cain omnibus, a real breath of fresh air in the grimdark of the far future.

Enjoy!

I think Eisenhorn is a bit overrated, prefer Gaunt's Ghosts.

I think this is kind of like saying "I didn't like watching The X-Files, I preferred watching First Wave".

The two aren't really the same 'genre' outside of being Sci-Fi/Pulp comics. Gaunt's Ghosts is like the X-Files: it leans more towards action, with mystery/information gathering being a tertiary goal, but the episode really being about facing down a 'bad guy of the week'.

Eisenhorn is more like First Wave; where there are 'bad guys of the week' but they fit into an overall arching "grand scheme" of things.

...I really hope that makes sense to someone other than myself

I loved both Eisenhorn and the Ravenor books, however i prefer Eisenhorn, at first wasnt so sure bout the 1st person thing but in the end one of the best books ive read. Just hope he does do a third "trilogy" and combines both Eisenhorn and Ravenor

I loved the first Eisenhorn, but for some reason couldn't force myself to finish the second book. I didn't care about any of the characters, not to mention my favourite character from the first book was replaced by a girl that was pretty much exactly the same as her replacement (why even bother doing it then?). I'll pick it up again sometime, but it's not my personal favourite. I'll always be a Ciaphas fan, even if "Sandy Mitchel" isn't the best author he's got a great view of the W4k universe and his inquisitor books really get me hyped up.

He might not be too good a writer, but he's a literary genius compared to every Black Library author I've seen aside from Abnett, who has the distinction of actually being a good writer in his own right, even if I can't stand any of the characters in Gaunt's Ghosts.

The statement "I didn't like watching X-Files, I prefered watching First Wave" is perfectly valid. Personally I don't like either of them.

Eh...I didn't really see any good plot in Gaunt's Ghosts personally. It was just..Space Marine-ish like Action all the time.

Good for its purpose I suppose; but hardly likely to interest those who prefer the Inquisition focused books.
