I don't know man,she seems more " Curvy" than "Chubby" to me.

But the other two..I agree.

...And dear lord...how does one get into the condition of that last fellow?...I don't think McDonalds can be blamed for that.

I've always considered the words "curvy" and "chubby" interchangeable, besides curvy seems to have so many meanings these days I've seen it used to describe a healthy hour-glass figure, a word used to describe fat people without coming

across as offensive, an un-angular woman, girls with large bust and bottom etc, etc I don't even think it has a real definition anymore.

Better, yes I see quite a noticeable difference in body shape between those two images although I would say the white girl in in the floral shorts is just plain fat imho. Chubby to me is having extra body fat without looking that badly overweight

like Christan Hendricks or Nigel Lawson.

I like both curvy and slim women to me it's more about how they pull there look off that makes them attractive, all that money they dedicate to clothes, shoes, makeup, hair, etc has to contribute to something.

That's true...

And personality is a huge factor as well, even a "not so attractive" woman can seem more attractive so long as they don't have a horrible personality.

It's interesting how excessive eating and weight gain can be a lot like excessive hording. It's like, 'god damn, you live out of half of a room of a three bedroom house because everything else is filled up with gak, why can't you admit you have a problem?'

That's true..It's easy to chalk being that overweight to a lot of stupid self indulgence, but I wonder how much of it can actually be attributed to some sort of " Void filling" mental disorder.?

Also, I love that this conversation has become a conversation about women's bodyshapes. Obesity is a bigger problem in men, afterall.

I admit my first thoughts when I see someone who has completely "let them self go" is " Damn..Get in the gym and leave the cupcakes alone for a while you lazy feth."
But I suppose that's somewhat unfair on my part,I mean...there are other factors that contribute to weight gain other than simply stuffing your face and sitting on your backside a lot.

Yes I'm sure it's a photoshopped picture.
And...I agree, according to the statistics obesity does affect more men than woman, but then again...how accurate are those "statistics"

Those statistics are probably skewed because they all use the same BMI scale and men typically weigh more than women. According to the BMI, I'm borderline obese and I don't look remotely fat.

Ultimately, though, what business is it of ours? They get fat, they die sooner, which is sad for them but it's their choice.

It's different when they complain about how this thing or that thing is making them fat when their lifestyle is clearly the leading cause. But then they should be judged for claiming something that isn't true, not for being fat.

*There are some folk with thyroid conditions and the like that are actually causing them to be fat, but for most folk that's an excuse.

There are plenty of studies that don't use BMI though, and they also report that obesity is rising and that it is more common among men.

You can be obese without being fat. Carrying too much muscle is bad as well.

I think one potential factor may be the culture surrounding food in the States - you folks seem inordinately proud of eating unhealthy food, to the point that it's unhealthiness is a factor in it's desirability. It seems that for many of you, when you hear '3000 calories' you think 'awesome!' as if the food's unhealthiness is some sort of badge of honour, and eating it, the mark of the man. Hell, there's even been people in this very thread boasting about how poor their diet is! It's not cool to eat junk - it's juvenile.

We don't have that over here to the same extent. This is a genuine observation, not trying to attack anyone...

What they should do is put the counter for "fatty" and "unhealthy" foods at the end of a long treadmill. If you can run along the treadmill to get to the food you will have done enough exercise to purchase 1 item from the counter.

Possibly also add in some pendulum weights, mud pits and TV cameras.

I think it originally stems from two things:
1) a resentment of authority - who the heck does that nutritionist think he is to tell me how to live my life?
2) willfully ignoring inconvenient truths that would require us to give up some worldly comforts (also see: global warming, wikileaks)

The BMI chart doesn't account for muscle mass as opposed to fat mass, which is why it's so fethed up.

That said, I don't think it's exactly false that the US has an obesity problem. It's just overblown like every problem put through our mass media is.

That particular problem has been known for a long time in the medical profession, which is why it is not the only measure of obesity they will use (although it is a good yardstick in the majority of cases).
