I've got some old metal grey knights, I've already pawned my stormtroopers of to an IG player but it seems they're becoming obsolete anyway, so I might think about building them up a bit.
Then I could say "I got these grey knight models BEFORE they became plastic"

I only play GK and wouldn't consider a second army until I've finished building a fully pimped out GK army.
If i did consider a second, it would be eldar but I generally tend to choose something and then stick with it no matter what so I'll probably never have a second army.
Unless I feel too cheesy playing GK, of course - I've already decided not to field a Stormraven, ever.

Well, I'm most likely just gonna buy a DreadKnight because I for one think it looks super cool. And I have been trying to come up with some OTT weapons platform for my marines, and the Dreadknight fits perfectly.
I may get the codex and give it a read, because I may be able to make an army using non-GK marines and other henchmen, and tie all my misc. projects together.

You know, so many people have been hating on it, and I gotta say, I'm honestly on the fence. As far as the aesthetics, I'm reserving all judgment until I see one in person, assembled and unpainted. Having that been said, I'm definitely in for at least one, and I'll use it. Someone made the implication that the Jokearo might have had a hand in making it, which seems like a cool way to excuse the lack of hard angles.

I think it looks really cool. Someone else put it better than I can, (paraphrased) "How can 9 foot tall terminators fight 15 foot tall demons? Build a larger set of armor to use"
I do agree with most though, the Hammer looks so tiny, like he wouldn't even be able to hit something with it. The sword or 2x guns options are cool. And I have all the extra guns from the ravenwing sprue, so they may make it onto him

If local trends can be followed, there is about to be a glut of DE models hitting the resale market. So they can afford to buy the GK.
Local noobs have only just realised that they are just as much the glass cannon as they used to be, and can't be played like marines.
I hope there will be an influx of DE on the market! I don't even play my marines like marines these days anyway.
I do have a nid army but I'm so disgusted by their performance without non-printed models like tervigons, shrikes, and other things that I'll just keep what I like in a box, and trade off the excess.
More on topic.. The GKs book means we are probably gonna get xenos books for the next few years since we got all the special chapters out of the way. Sure, we'll get a SM codex for the 6th edition release, but after that, xenos xenos xenos. ALIENS AND BLACK HOLES MOFO

You don't have DA or BT, they got updated for 5th edition and are basically on par with other marine codexes. CSM need an update since I'm sick of people proxying them as space wolves because they claim their codex sucks. SoB I would 100% agree that they need a new codex, right behind necrons since I see more people wanting to play necrons but then get talked out by others of it because crons have a legitimately crappy codex.
So basically the only marine releases we need are CSM and SoB. The thing about those codexes is that they can be made so off the wall that they might not necessarily be just purely marine units.
I do want to leave off with a note that I doubt we'll see CSMs soon since we just got off 3 (4 if you count BT update) new marine assaulty codexes, it might be some time until GW thinks the community is ready for another.

I was originally thinking about it, but after I saw that 5 plastic PAGKs are £20.50, I decided to wait until Necrons. I don't care how many options I get because at the end of the day, i'm still only capable of fielding 5 plastic models for £20.50; which would be fine if they were terminators, but when they're core troops, it's a joke.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

On that end, you probably could buy a box of GKs and a tac squad box and make 15 GKs. That is, if you are willing to compromise on some aesthetic details.

There is literally nothing they have that other armies cant do better. Black Templars are still in the 4th ed and, in particular, are still using the Armoury System, GW has been updating all of the "Armoury" dexes and havent redone any non-armoury dex yet. Both are up for an update and will likely be interspliced with the Necron and Tau updates that will likely happen in the years to come. Plus they're both marine dexes, and GW will never pass up a chance, no matter how small, to update a marine dex nowadays. This is also assuming 6th ed doesnt come out, which will basically be like a reset button for all of the dex release schedules. A line of Xeno after Xeno dex updates likely wont come for a LONG time.

You should wait before speculating about DA unless you have a PDF of the GKs codex laying about that you would share with others. Not saying you are doing this but I am not a fan of people wielding information that I can't get. Sure, I could go to a GW and look at a preview copy and analyze it for 2-3 hours like I do with most dexes, but I am sure the people waiting for me to finish would not be happy.
TBH, I don't understand why the DA's even have their own codex, they chase around ghosts (not in the literal sense, just in "The Fallen") and wear robes.
Changing to BTs...
Just because BTs haven't had their armory system condensed into a decent format doesn't mean that would be the entire basis for releasing a whole new codex, that is silly. If you look at the SW, BA, and C: SM codexes in the edition previous to the current ones, they had way more problems performing in fifth edition than BTs in addition to the scatterbrain armory system. BT are doing quite well with the errata update now, heck, they were able to keep up with my space wolves in the assault with their preferred enemy rule.

Yeah I'll probably start a GK side-army. Since I'm basically limited to my Black Templars lists (and a few proxy CSM ones) when not playing Vassal, it's been hard for me to pull off victories against skilled opponents. The one-dimensional-ness of Templars really hurts them when playing regular opponents. That, and the fact that my Templars are silver means that I can probably get away with starting a GK army and sharing vehicles.

For DAs: I dont need to speculate. GW's website advertises that you can make an Apothecary GK Terminator. Nuff said. Your own point also supports why I think DAs need an update: they literally are just another Codex chapter now, with nothing unique. They USE to be unique when they were the only ones allowed to take bikers as troops (bar the Chapter Traits chapters) and when Terminator armies were exclusive to themselves. The SM books made Ravenwing somewhat unappealing because they now have readily access to biker troops as well, and Loganwing soundly put Deathwing to rest. GK's Apothecary Terminators was the last nail in the coffin.
For Templars: I think Xca|iber makes a good enough point. BTs are also suffering from age: their rhinos cost more than the current ones, and because of the armoury system alot of their equipment conflicts with the current rules (namely, chaplain taking other weapons and how to resolve these issues). And while I'm against generalizing marine codexes in general, BTs are lacking alot of the new stuff (namely the Redeemer would be quite a good addition to the army, as well as vanguard squads).
And finally, It's Games Workshop. They WILL milk any and all marine dexes whenever there's a chance, and these two (while they did get an update) are chances staring them in the face.

Other than adjusting point totals, I don't really see where one can change those codexes without mirroring the latest marine releases. If anything, DAs should just be another chapter master entry in the C: SM.
Whats stopping me from saying BTs should get that treatment? Well, the emperor's champion and all his rules, their chapter structure with initiates and neophytes instead of tac squads, and their focus on land raiders.

There's also the matter of giving them Grenades as standard. And non-sucking Ven Dreads. Standard Iron Halos would also be another start. And that's before they get a bunch of Chapter-specific units the other expansion dexes got.
Do I like that they are going to make more marine dexes? No. But given GW's current track record (an unflinching pattern of Marine, Non-Marine, Marine, Non-marine, etc...) it's something we just have to accept. If you want to go ideally, then with the next marine update, they should invalidate ALL of the Marine Dexes and just make one complimation Codex. That would be the best, it would instantly make all other marines (besides Chaos) up to date, without cross-codex issues like the previous TH/ SS issue, and it would once and for all settle all of the ire generated by marines. It's also something we needed in a long time, as the various marine dexes, besides GK, is basically a rehash of the units in the Vanilla dex.

With 44 regular GK (now, care of recent purchase of 2nd hand metals), including 6 psycannons and 4 incinerators - and 17 GKT, not to mention several inquisitors and henchmen and 40 ISTs and tanks and rhinos and stuff, all I really need is the codex.
Will be building the stormraven to my own specs (looks more like a Republic Assault Shuttle) than thunderchicken though.
The DK will be the cool model just for the display cabinet where it will join the Raider, Monolith, Skyray and Alienid Tyranid warriors ( Tyr warriors with 1/35 ALIENS heads).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

I always said that the only Space Marine army I would collect is Grey Knights but only if the army got updated. A week or so later GW sent out the email making their release official, so yes, I am going to collect them alongside my 'nids.
Stop listening in on my skype calls, GW!

I already have GK as a side army (500pts: Inq lord + retinue, 10 ISTs and 5 GK) but I'm not sure if I will continue with it or not. If I do I'll wait for the hype to die down and for all the WAAC players to move on to the next flavour of the month.
I will however be picking up atleast one GK box for some conversions.

I am sorely tempted. It would be a great contrast to my nids (i.e a small elite force that I would enjoy painting to a real fine level of detail). The only issue is that I know we already have a GK player and someone else is considering starting them. I don't like starting armies that are already really abundant...just a personal thing.

Nope, Daemonhunters popped my 40k cherry. I'm going back to my first love, none of this 'flavour of the month' stuff here. Time to get Inquisitional!
