Just finished putting the primer on, and thought the same thing. Yep, it's a bit too slick w/o rivets.
Will have to put some on this weekend.

There are usually lots of lugs presumably for tools, spares and towing cables etc on AFV's but that would be fiddly

Actually, that APC makes for an incredibly tempting hellhound/banewolf conversion

Some handy and cheap 1/32 tanks too. A Sherman conversion would be cool but always liked the look of that amphibian, it's a Buffalo if memory serves?

Well, I ordered two of the APC's after reading this thread along with a lot of sand bags and other terrain goodies. Package was on my doorstep in like two days. The APC seems too big for a rhino but I also got two of these shore defense guns so I think I can do a very good Medusa with them. Maybe even make a removable deck for my Hydra turret

All this is perfect however for those that like themed armies, such as modern or possibly WWII, and the price is right. It also works well for those playing Orks and need something cheap for a basis for a tank or other vehicle. All you have to do is stick some plasticard and rivets and you've really got something. If I saw plastic helicopters, I would have made my Vietnam themed IG army. It's even more possible now as you could easily make a Huey as a "counts as" for a Valkyrie. Too bad I don't have them anymore.

Pretty sad when you see how cheap these are and then compare them to GW stuff. Really drives home the fact that they tremendously overcharge for everything they make.

I agree, though alot more R&D goes into what GW makes, and the quality shows. More appropriately, compare GW model kits to any other common brands such as Monogram or Revell, and you'll get a better idea of what kind of inflation is involved.

I'm almost done with my Taurus APC. Just waiting for the the sealer to dry before I put on another coat.

As pointed out, these vehicles are made of polythene, which does not take paint very well. Be sure to wash them thoroughly in warm water with dish detergent. Don't use a water based primer, apply an oil based enamel primer from a spray can instead.

It's still easy to chip, so be careful handling it until you can put a sealant on. I brushed on a coat of slightly watered down Future floor acrylic, and just finished spraying a gloss clear coat. When that dries, I'm going to spray on a final coat of clear matte.

Ooh, I wish I had seen this earlier I could have helped you out! I've done a number of projects with soft toy plastic. The key is to wash it very well, then prime with Krylon Fusion plastic paint or other soft-plastic-specific spray paints or and then give it at least two days to dry. After that you can paint with whatever paints you like.

Here's my most recent project using a plastic army man accessory that is carried by the same store mentioned in the OP. Pasted below from my P&M blog. The only change to what's below is that superglue will stick soft plastic sometimes, especially if you roughen up the surface a bit with sandpaper.

Lascannons on Carriage mounts.
I always thought Lascannons were like the light artillery of the guard and was partiularly fond of the earlier metal versions which while on carriages, were a bit small. I'm much happier with my version. The power cables are electric bass string sections.
Front

Team 1 It's hard to photograph, but the carrage mount as an elevation adjustment right above knee level that's perfect position for a guardmans hand to rest on using the partially open palmed guardsman hand.

Team 2 with seargent

Team 3 Lascannon being pushed into position. Probably should have had a third guardsman picking up the back of the carriage, but the tracks get the point across.

The kind of mount I used is actually an armyman toy like this one:

and can be found here:
http://www.toysoldiersdepot.com/store.php?seller=thedustyloft&Tsearch=cannon&pd=187837
They are very soft plastic, and must be thoroughly washed and then sprayed with a plastic specific paint like krylon "Fusion" or Rustoleum Plastic primer. Allow lots of time for the primer to completely dry before doing any painting. Also, a hot glue gun is just about the only thing that will glue this plastic. Luckily the lascannons sit in a box/trench on the mount, so the hot glue is not visible. Also a plus, the plastic is very easy to cut.

With 3 hatches in front, side, and rear that open to unload army troops. Nicely molded details. Bonus includes an assortment of 1 3/4" green or tan soldiers. This is a really nice vehicle that would work in a variety of modern battles!

Those big plastic Bradleys sell in UK boxed with 54mm soldiers as "Combat Force" or similar, retail about £4.95.
Toy soldiers depot also does great trees, rocks and various cheap terrain.
Classic Toy Soldiers, also in US, do many of the same models, but also do extremely good 1/32 tanks. Churchill Crocodile with armoured fuel trailer makes a good IG superheavy!
Don't fret on the postage from either firm; I ordered about £30 worth of stuff, all came safely packed in one box, and at the prices given you're just NOT going to order only 1?
