Recast MPC APC toy, compliments of the Toy Solider Depot, converted to an IG Combat Engineer Vehicle.
See this thread for more info on these inexpensive alternatives for 40K vehicles and accessories:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/353744.page
There are two metal chains securing down the barricades on the rear hull compartment. The chains are attached to magnets on either side of the APC side walls. The crane on the rear of the APC is from a Ork Battle trukk. The winch in front was scratch-built, using solder wire for the cable. These recast toy vehicles are made of polythene, which does not take paint very well. Be sure to wash them thoroughly in warm water with dish detergent. Don't use a water based primer, apply an oil based enamel primer from a spray can instead.
It's still easy to chip, so be careful handling it until you can put a sealant on. I brushed on a coat of slightly watered down Future floor acrylic, and then sprayed a gloss clear coat, followed up with a final coat of clear matte.
Below is a photo of all the actual fortification items (Save for the expanded concerta wire) unloaded from the Taurus APC.
Got Bridge?
Bridge unloaded--Gotta find time to paint it......
Rear shot of unloaded APC
I've hashed out a rough draft for IG Combat engineers, with helpful additions from others here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/354385.page
I plan to come up with a revised set of rules soon. I hope in the future to customize some Cadian troopers into engineers, wearing Kilts!
'cause there is is no engineers like a Scottish Engineer! See this thread on obtaining kilted bodies for IG troopers:

Looks very nice. With a little conversion work, you could probably make a decent looking count-as Chimera as well.
Makes that Krieg army sound more and more delicious...

Wow, definitely going to bookmark that site for future purchases. What impresses me even more than the detailing (which is amazing, by the way - it doesn't look at all out of place, nor does it look like the cheap plastic box with tracks that it originally was) is the sheer amount of stuff you managed to pack in the back. I've seen whole tables with less scatter terrain than you've managed to pack into what amounts to a Chimera variant.

Followed this here from the earlier thread. For all the talk about using cheap toy tanks in 40k, most of those projects never get off the ground or end up quite rough looking. Your's on the other hand looks really impressive and very 40k. Well Done!
I took the liberty of linking to this over at TMP.
One last question, what kind of glue did you use?

Thanks. I just used super glue. With this kind of plastic, prepping the surface with light sanding is often necessary.

Check out the link on my proposal for " IG Combat Engineers". http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/354385.page
I also can use it as a "Count as" Chimera. I bought this toy and others like it due to my limited hobby resources (I.e., lack of bucks)
as much as for the fun of kit bashing.

It came from some army play-set that my kids had years ago. I pretty sure it's OOP now. Cant' remember the brand name.
With spring coming up, I'm going to peruse yard sales--though I'm going to feel a bit odd rootin' around in cardboard boxes scrounging for old GI Joe toys and such for kit-bash projects.

Awesome work! I was following the original thread and this turned out way better than I expected. The paintjob and little details really make it 40k. Do you have any final WIP shots just before you started painting?

Well, you would have to remodel the rear by cutting out the interior walls to increase space. I did consider it at one time. As it is now, you can squeeze 6, maybe 7 minis with 25mm bases in the back.
