@HAZZER -Yup Loved Grey Knights since they introduced them in White Dwarf back in the 80's!
But was disappointed when they where more like side kicks to the Inquisition in earlier editions.
Ok it has been slow for me and now getting back in the groove. I have completed half of the squad and Huron and working on two more Corsairs which leaves me three left.
So here is my update let me know what you guys think. Remember my customer wanted these guys a bit dark and worn out like their leader.
Lookin' good- I think the color and quality are consistent with Blackheart! Or does the customer want battlewear on the cohorts' armor? To match the battlewear on their leader's face?
Either way, I'm sure you'll deliver. For some odd reason, if I was to be the one asking- I'd take them as-is. I like bashed up and worn SMs, but these guys look good without the damage.. keep 'em coming!
HAZZER wrote:Wow you have got some work done!Nice job lol!!!!
HAZZER Thanks and yea had to get busy but also was slowed down with the job hunt still.

HF Izanagi thanks alot Yea he just wanted it basic 2 color for the tactical squad and well as for Huron he had more time spent on him then any one tactical marine . Well my customer has been non responsive for 2 weeks now and thats showing me some concern if he was sucked up in some warp portal he has already paid for the tactical marines box set but not for the paint job.
Hopefully he has ran out on me well if he has I will just sell him at one of the 2 stores I dwell at !!!
Well I should be done with the squad soon and will post it up this weekend (hopefully)

Wow, I missed a few things while I was gone! I need to sub this thread.
Great work! Not that I'd expect anything less, mind you. It's inspiring to see you working on Red Corsairs. True freedom fighters standing against the oppressive tyranny of the Imperium!

Skalk man it's good to see you again!! Good looking Nurgle troops and renegades you got going.
Yea since I posted my Huron someone locally wanted to buy him plus 10 guys.
Yea I get my balls busted by Fasteddiexx1 that I turned traitor . Oh well anything to fund my other armies !
Ok dakka guys and gals I completed the Red Corsairs and waiting for my customer to get back to me.
So I printed out decals for the shoulder pads and man I need a new printer but they turned out good. So take a look and let me know what you guys think.
Raen wrote:love your paintng! one question though... which airbrush do you have
Raen thanks for tuning in! My airbrush is a Badger model 360 aka Universal. Its a gravity and siphon fed model. The front part twists 360 to take a bottle or use the small cup for gravity feed.
This model is perfect for what we do and I don't waste paint with a big cup.I used this in My automotive repair days for touch ups and small jobs. I also have a Master series G23 a Iwata knock off. And a damn good one too.
Let me know if you have any questions on airbrush's.

And how did you paint the coils on the champion's plasma pistol? It (along with everything) looks great.
prime12357 thanks for tuning in and yes Legends is cool!! As for the plasma coils I paint white with Vallejo game colour white primer then wash it with Vallejo Model color Park green. You can wash it with any color like blue ect. Then highlight it with white using what ever technique ie dry brushing.
BTW are you in the Cupertino area?

Top stuff - just read Blood Reaver, makes me want to pick up a Huron model. I'd love for it to look as good as this one!
Gotta question for you GDO, on the bases. Im liking the Red Mars Desert look, as it matches the red of the models really well. they look 'dusty' so i assume that this is a weathering powder? If so, how do you get it to stay on? your bases look like a reasonably thick layer.
I have been playing with weathering powders fo a little while now, and love the effect, but if I dont matt seal the model, you end up with smudges/fingerprints and the powder eventually rubs off.
The issue with this is that the sealing process adjusts (knocks back) the colour somewhat - This is a link to my blog that shows what I mean (about half way down the page)http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/60/244402.page#2786602
Be interested in how you manage this issue.
Cheers & top work

darkkt thanks I am glad you like it. My customer wanted the cost down so just two colors and washing it down ( no respecting CSM looks clean and new like GW makes them ) so it's not bright looking like they never fought a battle in their long life span !
As for the bases for the pigments yes I use the Vallejo pigments and the tecnique I use is using a 1:1 ratio ish of water and matte varnish and apply it to the base area's where you want the pigments and apply the pigment to the wet area's. The pigments will stick to the wet area and you will get a muddy effect first but will dry looking like any earthy place.
If you want a wet muddy effect that still looks wet use gloss varnish and mix it on a pallet and apply to areas make sure you use quite a bit of gloss varnish or use floor wax like Mop N Glow ( I don't know if you have that down under) this is a old scale modeler tecnique I learned from the japanese book called Hobby Japan, but that was a while ago and don't know if they still print it.
I know regarding the the pigments lightening up if you apply matte varnish on top if it and learned that mistake too so what I do is mix the pigments a shade or two darker( and messy) then apply then coat it. And will not lighten it up as bad.
but using a wet tecnique is better then just dry cause dry will just be all over the place, your hands, your bag everywhere .
Also it will harden up and won't get everywhere using that mix I mentioned.
I know it can get very expensive down under, another cheap way to do pigments is pastels you get from a art store. The japanese been using it for years plus you get every color in the rainbow for under $20. The pastels are like soft chalk and have the same texture as pigments once you grind it down using a small screen strainer ( look in your moms kitchen ) or course sand paper.
Wow sorry for the long rant I will try to see if Youtube has any of the Japanese Armour video and post the link.

Wow Youtube is great they even posted old VHS and DVD's of the Japanese Armour vids. Here is the link for all who wants the budget pigments and trust me it does work exactly as pigments (messy but works).
Hello dakka friends I want to show you my Finecast purchase and give a quick review.
I purchased two Grey Knight models, Castillian Crowe and Kaldor Draigo.
Ok initially when I purchased the model I examined each one carefully to make sure I bought a non flawed model with bubbles and other defects. I recommend doing this with all blister packs but for the box set I highly recommend opening it at the store and you can do a quick return if there is any defects. Just remember dealing with resin you might run into flaws especially bubbles. Many of you who purchased Forgeworld products might have run into this or heard of nightmare stories of warped pieces. Some of this can be fixable by fillers or soaking it in warm water to straightened warped pieces. Then the dreaded part where you have to ship it back at your dime. ( note to GW *better QC before shipping*)
Ok nuff talk and more model review. . After opening the blister packs, I gotta give it to GW for making a great product. The detail is what they said it will be and was very impressed. Crowe and Draigo looked amazing. Even fasteddiexx1 who bought the Sternguard box set looked better then my metal ones. Now I believe for this new batch of Finecast will be somewhat flawless but maybe down the road you might see some defects more common.
That is why I recommend examining every model when you can. FW use to have a good QC of their products but lately I have heard some bad stories especially with their high end models of titans and Thunderhawks.
So anywho I rate this release a 9.5 out of 10. Why 9.5, well after getting shafted with a price increase for a cheaper material that is why.
Now I understand we are the crackheads and they are he crack dealers but man common how is any kid getting into this great hobby to afford this hobby?!? Oh well that will be another story. Here are some pictures and enjoy and comment your thoughts.
Alright dakka peeps, I needed a break of the 40k kind of painting and needed a single model that will apply all that I learned from Massive Voodoo and spend some quality time with blending and lighting.
Fasteddiexx1 picked me up Enigma's Old Death figure since it was always sold out quickly everywhere and I got one Whooohoooo!
Well I started it and primed it with Vallejo black primer which is the best by far and applied it with my airbrush then worked out the light source then highlighted the wings using Vallejo air white and gray.
I then gloss varnish the wings and ready for washing.
Let me know what you guys think.
Those are some of the best Red Corsairs I've seen in a long time. I also have to agree with Grey Knights and the "homer simpson" gurgle that ensues when I see them. I've always LOVED Grey Knights since way back when, then the Daemonhunters book came out and I never got a chance to get an army together :(
Those are some nice looking fine cast models. I got crowe in metal and will probably make draigo my first fine cast purchase soon. Hopefully it'll be somewhat decent.
Also the Enigma mini looks awesome. It's always nice to take a break from GW and paint something else. Looking forward to seeing you paint it up.
Hey guys thanks again I am glad you guys like my work I am trying to improve as time goes and now trying to do alot of detail and time on Old Death here.
I am overall impressed with the model but wish some of the casting was cleaner. The back of the wings had some flaws and the head was not as detailed as I would like it. But it is still a beautiful sculpture and reminds me of GW when they did various models that really did not belong to one faction of the game.
I believe they lost that and only do it on Games day exclusive models or order 2 years subscription of WD and get some dumb Ultra Marine captain sorry had to poke fun at them.
Anyways here is a small update and now have to blend the cape and detail and highlight everything.
Let me know what you guys think.

Greydeathone, you are awesome....as if you didn't know already! love the mini's and that reaper is fantastic, I love the light sourcing it's a way i've never ventured into for proper painting yet but I use the method on my marines and then a series of washes, it's a quick and good method but I must try and do something properly again soon! you have inspired me with your work, thank you!
