Thanks chadbacca. True the legs are somewhat static one the dreads, and would be difficult to change and make look right. Not to mention the major surgery it would require.
However, that's why the torso and legs are only held together by a toothpick. This allows me to separate the two pieces for easier painting and makes it so that I can (slightly) change the pose.
The top half is literally just sitting loose on top of the legs, the pick is glued into the legs and there is a corresponding whole in the bottom of the torso.

It occurs to me that one of the reasons for making a P&M Blog is to show what you are doing and to give inspiration to others who may wish to do something similar.
To that end, since my thread is about the Iron Warriors, if you have anything you'd like to add such as links to tutorials or bits of fluff... even suggestions on bits and kits that fit with them, feel free to post them here.
Here's one that I came across on The Bolter And Chainsword- http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=195209
It's where I got the inspiration for the Terminator.

Agreed, he does look a bit static. The dread is still a WIP though correct? I would recommend a wash or two on the metal. Otherwise it's looking great.
Something that i found that helped immensley when painting my IW, was using army painter silver primer. I checked the site and couldn't find it so i'm not sure if it's still available. But it saves many steps and coats beautifully.

Thanks TheChronoTrigger. Yes, he is still a work in progress, and paint-wise I'm mostly doing the base colors right now, after that I'lll go back and do the washes and highlights.
Thanks also for the suggestion of army painter(it's a dip style primer, isn't it?). I have heard good and bad things about it, so for now I'm going to stick with spray primer and "paint by hand" methods. I will keep that in mind though.
Do you have any pictures of your IW?
Thanks Giraffex, more on the way when I get more done...

Army painter do a silver spray primer, I've not tried it myself but their black is good. Would be ideal for when you have to undercoat your Land Raider.

It's actually a spray primer. Cost about 15 bucks and lasted me pretty much all 2k points of my army.
Pics of my IW can be found in my blog http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/120/248059.page pages 2, 3 and 5 in particular

How does it compare to other primers? I use to use GW back when it was about $8? $10? and am currently using a black Krylon primer ($5). Also used to use GW Boltgun Metal spray before they discontinued it, followed by brushed on Boltgun.

Army painter's silver spray is amazing. Comes out nice and even with a great coating thickness. No loss of detail at all and has a fantastic metallic finish. I would say it compares more to mithril silver than boltgun metal.
All i did was drench my models in delvan mud, then highlight again with mithril silver and they turned out great ( IMO )
I definitely reccomend it for vehicles in particular, this way you get a beautiful even coat of silver on the large surface areas and you can easily avoid brush stroke marks.

Love the Orks you've done, particularly the trukks and the camoed snipers. Really crisp hazard striping on your Land Raider... what colors did you use? I'm using Vomit Brown as a base coat and multiple layers of Golden Yellow on mine.
Awsome group shot by the way...

Thanks again Chrono.
Anyways, I've been working on the Land Raider a little bit today. I've added some banding on top of some of the extra armor panels. Yes there are gaps to be filled and glue to clean, but I wanted to see your opinions. Enjoy.

Well, I finally decided what I'm going to do about shoulder pads for these guys. The GW ones for the Iron Warriors are nice, but they don't quite look right to me.
So after much hesitation, I made this based on the Iron Warriors icon you see in the fluff. I have to say that I'm happy with how it turned out... even if it isn't on par with most of what you see from specialty manufacturers.
Anyways, let me know what you think.

I'd say it's a solid attempt. I see where your going with it. The gs could be a little smoother, I'm not one to talk tho, my gs skills aren't the best :p However if you keep trying and make one pad that looks really good you can make a press mold and just duplicate it. If you're interested I have a few extra fw rhino doors Im not using, I could send em your way

Nice constructive criticism there Chrono(serious statement). You're right that it could be smoother, but the funny thing is, that the more I look at it the happier I am with how it turned out. Almost looks like it's seen 10,000 years of use and abuse.
I am going to make some more, and after I get a few more done I might try my hand at casting them for private use. I thought about making a stamp, but this has some undercut areas that I think might be problematic.
I appreciate the offer of the Rhino doors, but right now I don't have extra funds to throw at them, or a vehicle to put them on even. Just out of curiosity, how do you have extra doors?

I purchased a set from fw and cast up a bunch of copies. No worries though. If your happy with the pad then that's all that truly matters

Everything looks great so far, keep it up! My only suggestion is to think about adding rivets to the edges of the plates you added to your landraider, helps to add some texture to those flat spaces. I use either sequins pins or sewing pins, just snip the heads leaving 1-2mm of shaft

Good point Tyrolean, I have been planning to do just that. I actually wish I had done that with the Dreadnought... still might do it too, just they wouldn't be in primer when I paint them in that instance.
That's cool Chrono. I like the shoulder pad pretty good for it being my first, but I'm going to make at least four more like, and then see about having one of my old army buddies cast them up for me.
I'm also going to sculpt the icons on the vehicle doors and Terminator shoulder pads, since they're larger areas to work with, it should be easier for me than the standard troop sized ones.

That dread looks great! One piece of advice though: paint the plasma coils! It will give some nice contrast to the rest of the model

Thanks. What colors have you guys seen used for the plasma coils? I've seen blue and green, but I've been thinking red.

When I bother to paint plasma, I usually do it in yellow w/ white highlights as I imagine it as intense concentrated heat. But what I do most frequently is paint it up Boltgun Metal w/ some weathered scorch marks. I do this mostly because my blending / highlighting / OSL skills are poor and I do not take the time to improve them. SO I just tell people that the weapon is "off" right now. Ha.
The Dread looks awesome. I would not worry about the "static" look on it, think of it this way- servo gears locked down to aim in on the next target. It is what it is and you'll have the opportunity to build another at some point (I don't know anyone that has only one Dread, even if they don't necessarily play them that much).
* and subbed, great thread!*

Thanks Skalk. And that's a good point about the servo gears. I'm not really worried about it looking static in the picture, since the way I have it toothpick pinned, I can remove and/or rotate it at the waist joint.
Anyways guys, I got two more assembled with bionics today and pictures will come tomorrow. Would have got more done, except the bionic leg of one of them was giving me hell.

Thanks. I actually plan on running two most of the time. I like the crazy bastards and feel that they represent Chaos quite well.
Anyways, I'm a day late on the update that I promised, but here it is . This is everything I have started on, and most of it needs more work before it gets primed. If anyone wants single shots of any models, let me know.
