I really like those big sized rivets, it really looks like some older age, Mk V style reinforced armour

Nope, just a tight fit...

Funny thing about those rivets, I was originally going to return them due to how big they are. Then I decided that big armor plates need big rivets. They are actually TOHO glass beads.
11/0 seed beads... according to the container.

Thank you very much Miss Dee. I'll have to do something nice for you in return sometime. I hope everything goes well with your operation, and good luck with the move.

Hey everyone. I'm feeling a little burnt out lately... running low on inspiration. So I'm going to take a break from my Iron Warriors for a little while. Not a long break, but it may bay a few weeks before I make any progress or post any new pics.

I will however, be checking in periodically to check for messages and I will be more than happy to answer any questions or listen to suggestions. I will also be scouring other threads and websites looking for something to get my hobby energy flowing again...

Well everybody, I'm back. I have been doing a little work on my Iron Warriors, mostly on the Land Raider and Dreadnought. Expect pictures within the next few days.

Well, like I said, I've got some new shots to share with everyone that has been following my work. I'm just about done with my Dreadnought, I just have a few more things to paint on it and it will be ready for shading, final touch ups, and sealing.

The Land Raider is nearing completion... I just have a little more greenstuff work to do on the main body and doors... and to finish of the dozer blades... mostly an operating mechanism.

I was going to put together a hydraulic system for it, but due to space limitations and odd angles, I think I'm going to go with an electric motor setup.

So anyways, enjoy the pics, and as always... if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions let me know. I'll be happy to discuss my work with you.

This shot is mostly to show the stripes on the close combat weapon

I'm having some trouble with the plasma coils... can't seem to get an effect that I'm happy with.

[Thumb - Joes pics 029.JPG]
Updated Dozer... I recycled the MicroSoft card from when I got Kill Team.

[Thumb - Joes pics 033.JPG]
A nice 3/4 view of it, so close to done...

[Thumb - Joes pics 028.JPG]
Here's what's behind the dozer blades...sorry about the shadows.

And last but not least, a close up of the Iron Warriors icon on the top hatch. I really like how this one has turned out.

Not quite Alpha Legion... but with the greenstuff and the blue from the armor plates that I've added to it, I can see where you might get that idea. Nope, It's Iron Warriors... just hasn't gone into primer and paint yet.

Anyways, thanks for commenting.

Very nice sculpting on the IW icons, and the land raider is looking great (alpharius would be proud ;P)!

Thanks Limbo. It's kinda funny that only now, after I've been working on the Land Raider for months, that people start giving me gak about abundance of Alpha Legion colors on my Iron Warriors Land Raider.

Thanks tipios. A word of advice if you do sculpt your own icons, I find that it's best to do a little at a time, instead of all in one go. And you may even want to do it in layers.

This is what I did with the one on the Land Raider... a shallow layer for the skull and bottom arrow section, followed by the surrounding arrows. , and allowed it to set.

After it set I built up the skull and added the eyebrow ridge to it, as will as the raised mouth section on the bottom arrow. All that is left after it's set is to trim up the arrows and sanding.

Have you tried using a darker base color for the plasma coils?

Thanks Galorn. Nope, this is just my first attempt on the plasma, and I need to get more paints before I try again, since I just have Blood Red and Baal Red at the moment.

I actually tried doing thin layers of Golden Yellow and in a lightning like pattern under different layers of wash, doesn't look terrible in person, but doesn't look good on picture, and I know I can do better. So more paints here I come.

All in good fun =)
So you did that IW icon in two takes? I would like to do something similer for my chaos, mind sharing a mini tutorial? I think I've got the general idea down, but any tips you think I might find helpful?

Not a problem Limbo. And, yeah, two or three takes with greenstuff, and just a little trimming with a sharp hobby knife. As for a tutorial... would you like a picture tutorial, or just a brief explanation of how I do mine?

Either way, let me know. And thanks for asking... I appreciate it. I'll work on both, just let me know what to post.

@Limbo- I'll put up a mini tutorial on icon sculpting tomorrow... I've had a few drinks tonight and I should probably have a clear head for giving out tips and advice.
@Bib- Thanks.

@Miss Dee- Great to hear it. Thanks for letting me know.

Ok, this won't be a full blown tutorial so I'm going to gloss over some some of the finer points, but if you want any further explanation, let me know.

To start with, be sure to get your work station setup with anything you might need. Good lighting, something to drink, a cool cup of water, pencil, sharpie or other marker, some sand paper... maybe even a magnifying glass.
Obviously you should have your greenstuff or other similar two part epoxy putty, miniature that your working on, and a good assortment of tools for working greenstuff.
Probably the most important thing you should have is a good photo or sketch of the icon you're going to reproduce. Every time I do one, I have my copy of Index Astartes opened to the section on Iron Warriors so I can refer to it as needed.

Let's talk about greenstuff for a moment here. Everyone knows that it's sticky as hell, and that its recommended that you keep it wet while you work it, since wet gs wont stick.
Personally I dip my finger tips into the cup of water before I start working the gs, this will keep it from being too sticky, but will leave it sticky enough to stat where you want it.
Speaking of fingers, wash your hands. The gs will pick up the dirt on your hands and fingers, and just doesn't work as well as it does when your hands are clean.
Also , keep your tools moist, you don't want the gs sticking to them at all. One last thing... gs is more likely to stick to a rough surface, you may want to carefully sand the area with a piece of fine grit sand paper 120 grit works well for this.

When you're ready to start, take a look at the icon you're trying to sculpt. Study it for a little bit. You might also think about if it would be easier if you drew an outline of your icon on the model. This is what the pencil, pen, or marker is for.
Try to get an idea of where you should start. With the IW, I like to start right in the middle with the skull. Once you've decided on where to start, go ahead and begin placing the gs.
Remember to work with small amounts at a time, so that you don't have a bunch of extra gs curing while you work. Try to RELAX and TAKE YOUR TIME. If you're in a hurry, you will make mistakes.
I think the last thing to mention, is when you start to feel the gs starting to harden, you should quit on the piece you're working on. Wait till it's fully cured, and then come back to it.
Some designs are best to do in parts anyways, it takes a little longer this way, but the rests will speak for themselves.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your sculpting. One last thing... try practicing the design on something that you didn't pay GW prices for, or at least something most people should have a lot of, such as blank shoulder pads.

Thanks, I'll remember all this. I plan to use my Forgeworld rhino doors as models, I'm basicly copying it in green stuff to put on my newly looted land raider, I hope it'll look half as good as your icon =)
