Dash, I posted this in your other thread about GT's in Texas, but I guess you didn't see it:

There is a GT tournament in San Antonio the weekend of May 14-15. It looks like they had 46 players at a tournament last year. More information at http://www.alamogt40k.com/

Although they aren't GT's, the Dragons Lair in Austin, TX has tournaments every month according to their website. You can find them here: http://dlair.net/

Edit: It calls it an Indy GT 40k. I don't know what that means. You should probably call or something...

Yeah, I'm planning on attending the Alamo GT. I'm just waiting for clarification on a couple of things. When you play an army that uses models that don't exist, you always gotta ask certain questions before planning on attending something.

No....you must be confusing me with someone else. I've never had any interest in IG or squats.

However, my RELEASED codex is full of stuff that doesn't have models. So I think its always wise to get ahold of a TO (like I did with you for the SVDM regarding my Lootas) regarding conversions.

Actually Dash, that was something we tried last year and it fell through due to lack of interest.

Yeah, I've been playing since 99. I used to go to Baton Rouge and New Orleans when they had "big" tournaments. I hit every Bayou Wars that had a 40K tournament(03-06 IIRC) and the ocasional RTT. I attended every Norbert Gisclair tournament in B.R.(02-05 IIRC) that had a 40K tournament. I've made 3 trips over to Leesville in the last two years. I networked with locals. It never did any good. People in this state are content with playing the locals in their area.

That's why we need to pull in Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas....maybe my presence will shake things up a bit with the locals?

I'd help you prepare a GT - Bayou Brawl GT.

A practice that I haven't seen implemented here is TOs and organizers grabbing contact information (phone, e-mail) for gamers in the area and out of the area, so when they're preparing a tournament or event, you can reach out to the distributed player group who don't frequent the store all the time or religiously pay attention to tournament dates. In NC, I had an excel spreadsheet tracking everyone and their e-mail and phone number so that I could e-mail them about tournaments, and follow up the day before sort of thing trying to get confirmation on who was attending.

The guys in Bolscon would differ with you on the events in Texas currently. Its also illegal for people from Dallas and Houston to knowingly be in the same room unless on business...

OR you could become a competitive painter instead. Get really good, I mean like insanely good with painting and converting and you'll get a ton more prizes($10k at adepticon? Hello?) and might even be able to turn it into a side business paining other peoples models for tons-o-cash.

Dallas is two hours from Shreveport. Houston is four hours away, still drivable for a two day event.

Don't know the whole story here - but know the 40K guys reasonably well and heard they got hosed in the deal they had and wound up eating some big dollars over the event.

Which SUCKS because as best I know they are stand up guys and didn't deserve that at all.

Just wanted to make sure that none of the 40K guys were being viewed in a bad light unfairly.

The person the orginally got to do the T-shirts took their money and ran, add to that alot of internal issues (still never posted placing results for the WHFB tournament) and the fact that they didnt require pre-payment for the 40k event (so 1/3 of the people didint show)!

I don't know how you feel about team events but Dicehead is having a Team tournament something similar to the ETC coming up at the end of May. It'll be up in Chattanooga so you're looking at around 10-11 hour drive?

You could check that out...that's all I have to offer. When I was in college in New Orleans I was disappointed with such a lack of 40K in my life I almost gave up.

Really? We may have had contact before, then(used to be a Galactic Games regular then a Little Wars regular after I moved back to the BR).

I either played a blue colored KOS army or a 210 model Feral Ork Army when I went down that way. I hit 2 RTTs at Galactic. I hit the occasional monthly tournament at Little Wars when Elliot owned it and Shane was the manager. My last trip to Little Wars was for an Apoc game in Dec of 08 I believe. Two of us from Shreveport, 4 guys from Alexandria, bunch of B.R. locals.

If you think Houston is four hours away from Shreveport I want what you're smoking. Its 230 miles including a hell of a lot of crap town driving on 59. Its a gak drive. I've done it. A lot.

I've not driving it but Mr. Google says its over 200 miles from Dallas to Shreveport.

Dash lives in the Alexandria area, and I can assure you it is about a 4 hours drive from there to the Houston city limits. When my Father in law was dying of cancer, we made several trips from Natchitoches (about 45 minutes north of Alex) to Houston. Took 4 hours everytime we did it. And I agree with you. I HATE 59!

So it's actually 5 hours from Shreveport to Houston

Dallas is 3 hours from Shreveport. If you live in Shreveport and want to see any good concerts, you know how far Dallas is.

Of course then you have to drive through Diboll. As That Woman (not to be confused with the illustrious She Who Must Be Obeyed) would say "I lost my eyeball in Diboll."

I always kind of liked Lufkin though.

Lufkin seems like an O.K. town. Diboll has way too many traffic lights for a town its size. I see more state cops in and around Diboll than the entirety of the rest of 59 as well.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

There is the Railhead Rumble in Dallas June 10-12

2000 Points, 7 games.

Even though I only live about a state away from Texas it is still a 13 hour drive, or I would be tempted to go to some of these events.

Yeah, but when you're driving through west Texas, you can turn on your AM radio and actually hear that "weeee-ooooo-eeeee-woooo" from 1950s sci-fi movies.

Creeped me out as a kid.

I wonder if we can talk Legoburner into adding Tournaments to the Store Locator map that Dakka has. That would make things easier for people looking at travelling to larger tournaments.

Alright...

So here's what I've found. Fill in any missing links for me please!

Alamo GT May 14-15 in San Antonio (40-60 people)

Railhead Rumble June 10-12, Dallas, TX at the A-Kon Convention - I've found no contact information, but I sent an e-mail to where lists go asking if this is the first year they're holding it, what attendance was last year if they held it.

Astronomicon, Dallas TX: No dates or information available - not sure if they're holding it again this year. I've e-mailed one of the coordinators asking for details.

Independence Day Massacre: Fayetteville, AR, June 10-12. Same weekend as Railhead Rumble. While the Railhead Rumble is closer, I'd probably go to AR for the GT unless the Railhead is bigger.

WargamesCon: July 7-10, Austin TX.

Wasteland Wars GT: September 17-18th, Lubbock TX. I've e-mailed asking for info, but haven't heard back. What I have found is discouraging. 1850 GT, no special characters allowed (WTF?) I see 10 people registered, and it looks like they had 18 last year.

Am I missing any? I looked into Bayou Wars, but the site is pretty dead, and has no hint of any sort of 40k event there. Dicehead is a team tournament, not a singles GT so is out. Anything else?
