Would this shirt offend you?
Yes.
Maybe, depends on the attitude of wearer.
Not really.
Of course not, it's funny!

It completely depends on the attitude of the wearer.
Also it should read "When are you" not "When were you" so i'd probably giggle a bit that you made a shirt with a slight insult on it and used the wrong tense of a verb.

No, the only people you are going to "offend" are a few anonymous internet types whom you will never actually meet. At your club it may just help motivate new members to get their stuff painted. Nothing wrong with setting some standards.

There's motivation and then there's pressurising, both could come from the same thing read by two different people. Just because Person A would be more motivated doesn't make it okay if Person B feels pressured into doing something (s)he doesn't want to do.

If you cannot ensure that nobody will take it negatively, then it's always safer not to do it.

If you cannot ensure that nobody will take it negatively, then it's always safer not to do it? How dare you wear the sigil of khorne and speak such blasphemy? ;p

Because chances are that I won't meet any of you IRL, whereas if you've got regulars coming to a club then there's going to be direct interaction at some point or other.

Of course! Then they can laugh together at the silly shirt! I dunno but I am the kind of person who finds it near impossible to be offended by anything because there are much more important things in life to stress over, maybe it is because I am Canadian, or perhaps because I am an older gamer. Funny how I usually play the armies that are the complete opposite ( Starting Scyrah this week )

YMMV as usual.

Fair enough. In honesty, it is a bit of a dig at the GW and PP players (we don't really play GW or PP games) and the masses of grey and primer we see at or FLGS

Point taken, I too have a dislike for the primed/grey models in a game but just be careful not to tar everyone with the same brush, thats all
My statement probably came across a bit harshly. Soz.

Eh, this would NOT go over well at my FLGS. Almost all of the armies I see there are unpainted. And even though my army is painted, I would still get an "elitist" feel from the shirt. It would really intimidate those who are just starting out, especially if they have a bunch of unpainted models.

Do what you wish, however, expect some raised eyebrows.

It never ceases to amaze me how many gamers get nerd rage over the most miniscule things.

I rarely paint and i really dont care who likes it and who doesnt. That said, the shirt wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

You're not insulting my family, kicking my cat or burning down my house. You're talking about little plastic, metal or resin toy soldiers....oh no!

I say make it, wear it and enjoy it. If you feel hardcore, do it.

I don't know man, I think that not doing something just because it might offend someone isn't a great reason not to do it. I mean it's not like the T shirt is saying "I your granma". Now I know different people take different levels of offence at different things but I don't think we should start bubble wrapping ourselves against everything.

Thats a very interesting point , but here is the thing.

Some people might not be offended with "I your granma"
in other words , its not different level of offense no.

Its been hit on the right nerve or not, which everyone is different for various reasons , that is the point.

In today's world where everyone is insulted by everything or on someone elses behalf, I think it is a great reason. Some of the stuff you can get done for now would've been laughable years ago, and people were a lot more tolerant; unlike today where I could use the word 'black' to describe something like a t-shirt and someone behind me who happens to have a black friend thinks "He'd hate that." and plays the racist card.

It's so easy to insult people nowdays that you have to start selecting sentences carefully everywhere you go, chatting to your friend in a café suddenly becomes a race to find a suitable synonym before the silence becomes awkward.

With business, you can't go and fence-off a large group of your customers, and pressuring them is simply wrong; would you rather have a customer who feels comfortable in the environment of your club, or one who feels that's the odd-one-out and feels compelled to do something to make him fit in?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Although I find it funny and providing the wearer had a light hearted attitude I think it would go over fine...I have to ask, why?

A t-shirt with that on it, okay, kinda funny, wear it every now and then. But for a club shirt? How does that slogan/joke tie into your club? Does that represent "who you are"? I think if you're doing a club logo shirt, any slogans, innuendo, quotes should somehow be representing your club, not be a clever jab at something you find amusing.

Fine for a wargaming joke t-shirt, kinda the wrong direction for a club shirt, imo.

I don't know that asking a forum will help make your decision, just make the shirt and don't worry about it IMHO. Wouldn't offend me at all, and in fact I do try and field fully painted armies only.

Might I suggest variations to the shirts? Sometimes it's funny to insult the wearer just as much as one that's not wearing it. Like you could do,

"I know what you're thinking."

"Yes, I DO have lots of spare time."

Then maybe throw a miniature between the two lines that's really well painted... not sure how GW feels about printing shirts like that.. but if it's just for a few friends at a club that's cool.

@ LunaHound not going to argue with you, mainly because I agree with you as I said people are different. My example of "I granma" wasn't meant to represent something that is universally insulting, i'm sure there are many people who'd find it amusing, rather something that although possibly meant as a joke is more likey to cause offense.

Your never going to please everyone, and painting is part of the hobby that is promoted a great deal, so I say make the tshirt.

Another thing people might have forgotten.

We arnt talking about 1 tshirt. OP was asking for a whole game club.

If I for example didnt have a painted army , or even an incomplete painted army , and i see the the "guys / regulars " that runs the place / calls the shots wearing that , i might "assume"
they take having painted armies very seriously , or atleast important enough for them to make a statement whether they are serious or not.

Its not even about been offended. Its just giving out possible wrong message and intimidate away potential new players AND most importantly customers.

The only reason I'd be wary about it is new players. I try really hard not to chase away new players, and more often than not they are the ones that would be offended.

IMO I think you are thinking about this way too much. If you want to wear that shirt then by all means go ahead. If your attitude and deminer are all arround good while wear the shirt at an event I'm sure people will see the joke in and if not oh well they lack a sense of hummor; meaning don't let them spoil your fun.

I would personally love one of those shirts and my armies are fully painted yet! lol

I do field semi-painted armies because I dont have all the time in the world/motivation to paint all the time but I can see where people would want to play against a fully painted army.

Would it offend me? Nope.

Would I laugh at you for being butthurt enough about unpainted models to waste money on a shirt to passive-aggressively say something you can't? Absolutely

Would you be offended by a shirt that said "Cool shirt! Now can you shut up and play?"

Also...

Lots of good opinions here. A few points of clarification.

1) It's not for sure that it'd be a club shirt.

2)The active "club" is small, about 5 members and if some don't want the club name on it we won't put it on.

3) The club and the FLGS are not connected. We game there every other tuesday and they sort of know us, but they don't sponsor us or give us any sort of prefference. We wouldn't want to do anything to overtly offend the owners, but they're pretty laid back, so I don't forsee a problem.

4) A store logo or name is not an option we were interested in.

People would boo him off of the stage? Hurting...hurting...hurting individuals. I forgot the majority of WH players ar the breed that they are. I usually game with fellow gamers who share my attitude on things, such as little plastic men remaining little plastic men and never a need for concern. A paintjob critique would never bother me, anyway OP like I said sport that shirt with pride and to heck with whomever doesn't like that. Sorry were has the second one come from?

The GD t-shirt is more likely to offend because is a direct insult rather than a quip/jibe. It doesn't take skill to paint but it does to paint well. To my knowledge there is no minimal painting standard to enter a tournament just that they are painted.

Yeah I know it still takes time to paint and not everyone has time, so comparisons can be drawn.

Just occurred to me that the T-shirt would probably be more insulting to a player who had painted their army.
