I'm not sure where i'd get the melta pistol from, might be able to knock something up using tubing and a laspistol, i'll need another Catchan pack for the flamer though. He's actually missing a sword as well and a close combat attachment to Beulah. It kind of make me realise how ridiculouse my character is getting (in a good way). Faith and firepowe for the win.
Really nice army dude
thanks, most appreciated and thanks for looking.

So in the hope that writing more this thread will encourage me to do more hobby i thought I'd post again. Sorry a lot of picture this time just more thinking out loud.
So some of you might no that I have quite a lot of fluff written about my army, and wanted my armies to include this, in fact I posted a thread on topic.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/436014.page
Well I think i've come up with, the colour scheme for my marines
I'm not sure what to do for a symbol though, has to be relatively simple as I'll have to free hand it. Any idea's are welcome?
To try and keep track of it all I thought I'd list the projects I am/want to do
Full Infantry Company - At least 6 55 man plattoons - Nearly Done, 40 to paint and 40 more to build and paint.
Iron fist - Six Vet Chimera's - four done
Ogryns - converted from Orge kits
Psyker battle Squad - converted from empire flaggelants
Scout Salamander - conversion
Cmd Salamander - conversion
Knights Repentant - a small 500-750 space marine force
Jalvene Inquistorial Attachment - a small 500-750 GK henchman army
Sisters of the Forgotten Martyr - Small SOB force 500-750
LBR Salvage Squad - a 15 man squad for a board game idea I had
Dirty Xeno's - Either Orks or Nids or renegade guard IA5 - will probably become my actual second army
Hope's End - my ongoing scenery/board project
I was hoping to be able to do the conversions quite soon but the sale of my beastmen - the main source of funds for these projects - keeps falling through
I've, thanks to ebay, got some money put aside to buy a battalion box but I'm not sure which. Too many ideas in my head not enough money or time.
I have been toying with the idea of getting black reach, because at some point as this could potentially help with two of my projects. What are the models like?

The models are pretty sweet dude. They are pretty good loooking, and awesome value. But you could get a marines battleforce, would give you a fairly decent start to the army.

Hey man you well?
I am tempted to just get a battilion box set rather than ABR, not mad on the plug and play style models. Which one though, I plan to use the Vanilla codex but the SW comes with a drop pod. I suppose I could get the vanilla and just keep the rhino for the Henchmen, would make them stand out more as I had planned to convert guard (warrior acolytes) for most of it.

The space wolf one however will also come with space wolves, who might not fight your background. They look feral, not noble. The blood angels one would probably be best, as would using their book.
Furiously throwing yourself into combat, jumping into battle on wings of fire to set about the enemies of mankind. Sounds pretty much like what you want. Plus, you still get a rhino i think.

Great army you have going here mate! All the conversions are top notch. Not sure who my favorite character is so far, perhaps the archivist because of its originality and also the fluff behind him. Marine scheme is a bit off to me. the blue and yellow (or green? I am slightly colour blind!) pads seem too bright compared to the rest of the armour. I would be very tempted to use only one of the colours. Generally I stick to the rule of three, one for the armour, another for contrast and the last for details such as the trim. Not sure what you could use for a symbol. Something that represents their rapid, drop-pod attacks maybe? Keep up the great work dude! Cain

@ Lorna
Yeah I suppose blood angels make some sense, i'll have to go have a look through the codex. I do want at least one heavy bolter marine though.

First thanks for looking and thanks for the input. The Blue & Yellow is to tie them in with my guard so it actually looks like a cohesive force. I've got a few tester models lined up so will give it a try to see what they look like in the flesh so to speak. I could limit the colour to the trim I suppose. I didn't want to go all Blue and yellow becasue 1) i'm getting a little bored of it with all my guard and 2) I don't want people saying oh you play smurfs or imp fists same reason I ruled out my original choice of Green.
Symbol wise I originally thought about a tear drop or Stylised Eye with tear drop, I mean Rependant>sorrow it make sense, which given Lorna's suggestion of using blood angels might work well.

Hey spanks, you can still have devs in a BA army. And they have plenty of blood drops oi their armour, which can be painted to look like tear drops. And, their kits are some of the best for marines, along with the DA Vets, i would also use a box of them to have guys with robes, kinda like for sergeants, priests of redemption, or something similar.

Hmm, could you perhaps have some marines with blue and others with yellow in the same way UM's have different helmets for assault and dev marines? Just a thought! I shall wait to see the actual models painted up so as to get a real impression of the scheme.
As for the symbol, a tear drop sounds great and should you get the BA army you would get around 20 or so sculpted pads, most with the blood drop on. Perfect for you!

Angel wings. They signify the hope that they may once more rise from what they are to stand once more alongside their brothers.

Not sure about that, simplar explanation would be because they are the Emperor's Angels of Death.
I've done a mock up on a tester model, will post the pict later tonight. Not sure about the bolt gun and i might have been a little heavy with the sepia. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok, please remember I never claimed to be any good at painting, which does raise the question of why I started a blog , and this is my first ever marine.

Hey mate, my personal opinion is that the yellow doesn't really add anythingagainst the main colour. When i took a first look i didnt even realise the yellow parts were there til I scrolled up and saw your marine painter scheme. Maybe its just the photos?
Perhaps you could brighten the yellow? Just my opinion tho. I love your guardsmen so am looking forward to seeign what you do with your marines.
P.s the bolter probably needs another colour on it somewhere to make it pop. Certainly the ammo clip could do with it

Yeah I know what you mean, I used tau Sept should probably gone with dark sun. Also think I might have overdone it with the sepia, toned down the yellow too much.
What do you suggest for the bolter?

You should definitely lighten the yellow areas of the armour quite considerably. As for the bolter a little more metal would help a lot as Axlbush said the clip really needs it.

Ok I'll give it another go, try and liven up the yellow. I've got another two colour schemes in mind so will do testers for them as well and see what you guys think. Won't be this weekend though as i'm being dragged to the other halves parents.
@ Nick - I'll bring the tester marine on Monday so you can see him in person.

Well he is "super, thanks for asking" , thanks man means a lot.
As the Marine Painting scheme has not left the drawing board, I have decided to advance a couple of my guard projects because at least I have the colour scheme worked out already So I have ordered abox of Ogre Bulls, some Empire Flagellants and another chimera.
One of the bull is going to become Nork Deddog (or my version of it) I know he is rubbish but I can't see me runnig more than 5 ogryns in anything other than Apoc and and more than that can't fit in a chimera plus it would be nice to get every codex entry.
Not sure what to do with the chimera, either a transport for the Ogryns/Psykers or a salamander.

OK, so I've brighten the yellow on the first colour trial but i'm not sure about it so I painted the two alternative schemes I thought of. The pictures are not great so apologies in advance.
This was the first Idea I had, although it was the second marine I painted, it is basically the same colour scheme as my IG but white primed to lighten it. The problem I have with this scheme is I think the marines will blend in with the Guard to much
GREY
This is something totally different, no dessert theme and no over use of the existing colour scheme just hard grey.
All three schemes together
I think I have a favourite but i'm interested to hear what folks have to say.
thanks

Hi All
Thanks for the comments I think I'm going to go with the grey. However the marines have had to take aback seat as my wayland order finally turned up. I've been converting some ogyrn's, there not done yet but in the interest of keeping this thread updated here they are
and this is my count as Nork,
I gave him a Glaive as my other body guards have them.
I'm still working on the squads bone 'ead as he's a little complicated as i've repositioned the arms. I also managed to put ahobby drill through my thumb when I was trying to pin him. I'll post him when he is done.
thanks for looking

yeah not sure how I managed it, but seem to that kind of thing a lot when I'm converting. Making the ogryns alone I've cut my thumb twice and stuck a hobby drill in the other one. Starting to think I might be accident prone.
Think I need to invest in a hobby saw, think some of the problem is i'm using the wrong tools, if I get one I'll probably take my thumb off though
I do love converting though.

Right don't get into the carbon fibre business then, on my bench I will often have 3 different scapels, a stanley knife, a snap blade knife, scissors, various other cutting impletments, a drill and lots of shards of carbon fibre (carbon splinters hurt like hell).
Got loads of ways to injure yourself there.
Getting a razor saw of somesort can't hurt if you want to do loads of conversions. Even if it does mean you need your thumb reattached every so often.

Thanks mate most appreciated, I now have some excess ogre bits if you need any.
Don't suppose if you know how well the brass base bitz do with spray painting? I used one with a skull on for my Bone 'ead but I'm not sure if it'll show up when I prime it.
Alos very tempted to do the DoW style bone 'ead with the horns
