Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

Hi All

I finally got my rough riders and Storm troopers painted so to celebrate I thought I'd start a blog. Plus all the cool kids were doing it.

Apologies for the photo's they are not great as they are of poorly painted models in bad light with a phone camera

So this is a wide shot of the whole 112th Task force, although I have just noticed the stormies are missing. This is pretty much my entire guard army minus a squad and a few extras that still need painting including my shadow sword.

My Stormies, 1st Source Guard

My scout sentinels, mot really fond of what the flash did here. Makes the color look a lot flatter.

One of my many blobs, same problem with the flash. I'll have to get some tips off guys at my Gaming group about how to get the most out of my phone camera.

My fully pimped out command squad

My kit bashed lord commissar, those rocks he's standing on were a real pain.

My Tall ratlings, I had excess sniper rifles and couldn't think when i'd ever field them so tall ratling were born.

My rough riders, painted at last. Tip to anyone thinking of doing them, paint the horse and rider before sticking. It is a nightmare otherwise.

that's it for now, be gentle. Apologies again for the poor photo quality.

no I was going to take more but I was a little disappointed with how the photos came out. So I might have to look into setting up some kind of photo box in order to get better pics of individual models.

Hi All

as requested I've taken some close ups of some of the conversions i'm more proud of. Forgive the photo quality, again, as I'm still using my phone. However I have taken the photos on my painting desk with my daylight bulb so hopefully they will be a little better.

Thank you Rawson, Mohaniker and kenshin620 for your comments it most appreciated and it nice to see some one other than my immediate gaming group taking a look. The army color theme was originally based on 7th Calvary, well sort of more a cartoon version of it, as I'm a big John Wayne fan. Probably more to do with the fact you got a blue and yellow paint in the starter paint set

Hi Gorillawizard, yeah there are fair few of them a lot more needed though if I want that full infantry company. Do not fear the the shadowsword is on his way, if I don't get distracted by scenery or fluff or work or buying a house it'll be here at some point.

Any now, go gentle remember I've never claimed to be good and I've only just started playing with Green stuff.

My Body Guards (well watchers)

My Lord Commissar (Le Beaux)

My Counts as Marbo (Hondo) I gave him a bow because lets face it he is rambo

My counts as Creed (was origianly made as a challenge, supposed t look like me. He doesn't)

My Counts as Chenkov only finished him yesterday

My newest Priest (finished today)

My storm trooper sergeant

My Archivist counts as a standard was originally made for a challenge where we had to design a unit with its own rules. I still have the rules if any one wants to read them.

The first priest I made, I was told the chainsaw wouldn't fit showed you Jason

My First Scratch built commissar.

My counts as Al'rahem. Love this guy not the model so much but he is in pretty much every army I run. Has been given the nick name big gay Al, probably because he keeps sneaking up behind people.

An example of my newly finished rough riders

The sergeant

One of my tall Ratlings

My demo trooper

And just for Nick sergeant pokey/spikey/why is there a bayonet on his pistol?

Thanks for looking, i'll try and get some more photos up when I get time, this is most of my interesting stuff though. If any of you want to know/see more just ask.

thanks again

I joke, these are awesome mate! I wish i had something constructive to say but I'm just well impressed. Love the integration of the fantasy bitz - you've combined them perfectly. When i saw the first few shots i thought the colour scheme was a bit off but up close it looks great. Rough riders are excellent but i think my favourite guy is the storm trooper sergeant.

BATTLEFIELD ARCHIVIST
Archivist. 0-1
80 points

The Archivist guild was established in M35 in an attempt by the Jalvene people to find answers to the exact nature of the shame, a dark period in Jalvene history of which little is known except for the continuing guilt. The hope was that by finding the exact nature of their failure the Jalvenes would be able to atone for their sins and, finally remove the shadow that hangs over their society.

In M36 after the horrific invasion of the Jalvene system by an Ork Waaaagh the nature of the guilds worked changed. The chaos that followed the Ork invasion resulted in the total destruction of many irreplaceable records and documents, including the total loss of the all records gathered by the guild. The guilds loss was twofold as the vast majority of its members were killed during the invasion, even though they were in a secure compound. It was during the aftermath of the invasion that the guild was forged anew by Lord Commissar Fleischer. They would no longer be an association of scribes and scholars sifting through centuries old archives looking for the answers of the past. The past was providence of the dead and whatever answer it held were best left undisturbed. They would be a force of well trained and capable individuals whose goal was to gather information on the present so that future generation would learn by their example and that the mistakes of the present would not become the shames of the future.

To this end candidates from the guard, commissariat and Inquisition were recruited and trained in the ways of the Battlefield archivist. They were then attached to Jalvene regiments to monitor and record their actions.

War Gear.
Hot Shot Laspistol, Frag & Krak Grenades, Close Combat Weapon, Carapace Armour.

Special Rules
Independent Character, For the Annals of History, Lost Past, The Right Connections, Servo Skull

For the Annals of History
The knowledge that all of ones actions are not only being watched but recorded can be a powerful motivator. However the knowledge that all the footage gathered is studied in great detail by the archivist guild and all finding past onto the Inquisition or Commissariat is an even more powerful motivator. The Jalvene live with the constant overshadowing presence of the shame, the thought of bringing down additional dishonour upon ones family or regiment is so appalling that they will often fight on past the limits on normal men.

Any unit the Archivist is attached to will receive the Feel No Pain Universal Special rule. This ability may not be used by the archivist himself or if the archivist is in base contact with an enemy unit or he has been removed as a casualty.

Lost Past
Gaps in the Jalvenes past are a bitter reminder of their failings and although most Jalvene have accepted that they will never know the truth about their past they are loathed to let any such gaps reoccur.

If the archivist is killed all units with 12ā€ must take a Leadership test, if the test is failed the unit gains the rage universal special rule for the next turn as the troops become enraged that another part of their history has been lost. If the test is passed the units continues as normal.

When the archivist dies do not remove his model as he becomes an additional objective in any objective based game. In a kill point based game should his body be lost to enemy the guard player loses 1 KP

The Right Connections
Although not officially part of the commissariat or the Inquisition enclave on Jalvene, the Archivist guild has strong links to both. Their members are drawn from candidates chosen by both bodies and all their finding are submitted to them for analysis.

As such the Archivist can not be summarily executed by a commissar of any type as he is considered too much of a valuable tool.

Servo Skull
The archivist tools of the trade include servo skulls in order to better record the sound and images of the battlefield. As standard the archivist comes with 2 servo skulls.

Each Servo Skull adds 1 wound to archivist. Should the archivist take a wound it must first be allocated to the servo skulls, as they can not function without the guidance of the archivist. For the purposes of wound allocations and Instant death the archivist and each servo skull counts as a separate models. Servo Skulls do not benefit from the Feel no Pain granted by for the annals of history.

In addition the servo Skull adds the following additional rules. If the Servo skull is destroyed the following rules may not be used.

For the Front Page
The records and picts an archivist takes are not just for the analysis of the commissariat or the Inquisition. Particular acts of courage of heroism are often released to the public as a source of inspiration and to encourage enlistment into the guard.

Always looking for a good pict or story to inspire the folks back home the archivist at the beginning of each turn may choose to take a leadership test, using his own unaltered leadership. If the test is past then role a single D6 and compare the result to the chart below, the characteristic on the chart will be granted to any unit that the archivist is attached to at the start of the turn to represent the archivist spurring the men on. The ability granted will be lost if the archivist leaves the unit or is destroyed.

1-2 – Leadership 10
3-4 – Twin linked
5-6 – Furious Charge

Bad Press
Occasionally in his eagerness to get a good pict the archivist will spur troopers on to acts of foolishness rather than bravery.

If the archivist fails his leadership test ā€œfor the front pageā€ the squad he is attached to suffer D6 S3 hits to represent the archivist mistake in judgement. The Feel no pain granted by ā€œfor the annals of historyā€ cannot be used to against any wounds suffered, however normal armour or invulnerable saves can still be taken.

Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

Hi All

This week I have been working (well reworking on) some scenery. Back when I started gaming I made a saloon type building using foam board, I called it the Red Aquilla I was so proud . However within a relatively short time I realized it sucked, it was a pile of foam board painted red badly.

So I rebuilt it, covering it in wood paneling to make it look more like a saloon

However I was never truly happy with it, I didn't know if I should paint the wood as my painting skill ain't the best or just leave but then it would always look unfinished. Then I saw a load of scenery done by a fellow dakkite called Terraformer. It you have not seen his stuff I urge you seek it out it is awesome. Upon seeming his stuff I pretty much gave up on the idea of ever making anything good.

But then I thought hell no I won't feel down and i'll use his work as inspiration to try harder and so i've rebuilt it for the third time.

it's not quite finished, got to do the sand bags but thought i'd share. Any constructive advice is welcome

thanks

Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

Wow it's been freaking ages since I uploaded anything but life kind of got in the way, I had to briefly move back in with my parents while the purchase of my house went through and then when I did move into my own place it took ages to get back into the swing of doing hobby. To top it all off I just forgot to actually add the few things I had done.

Rather than show loads of very similar guardsmen, I thought I'd limit myself to a few of the less samey bits.

This fellow is the first model I built in my new house. His name is Pontius Silvanus and he is my character in a Dark Heresy campaign I'm taking part in. I know you don't need one for the rpg but it seemed like a good little project to get back in the swing of things with.

These guys are a special weapons squad I did and were the first models where I actually tried to do the eyes. I'm not a brilliant painter but I was chuffed with myself.

These shoddy picture are of some walls, I built, the plan is too build a number of these so I can enclose about a 3'x4' area. One of the best things about my new house is that I have my very own mannex, so plan to get a board up and running in the near future, which will be dessert themed with a walled town.

I've got another two built but they need painting, i'm also working of a check point to allow traffic into the town. I'll post images when I'm done.

Lastly is a my kit bashed attempt at a Primaris Psyker. I had 70 points spare in my 1750 list which I had planned to fill with a sentinel just for giggles but then a friend who plays Black Templars offered me a Game. Now knowing how much they hate Psyker I thought It would give the game a little more flavour if I took one. At very least I imagine it will result in shouting "suffer not the witch to live" and me responding with "Witness your doom" or I "knew you'd say that"

Thanks again to anyone who reads this and I'll try and update it more often.
