This isn't 4chan, and if you want to recreate 4chan at least do it right and make it green.
If you think all games are gimmicks, I think you misunderstand what a gimmick is.
>implying
There, anyways, what I mean is, there's always something to them that makes you feel like you have to buy them....

VC Super Mario Bros? Meh. VC Super Mario Bros DX? That'd draw me in.
If the VC retro games retain their multiplayer functions, I'll be tempted.
And if there's an Advance Wars 3DS in the making, and Intelligent Systems figure out how to counter FTA after two decades of making TBS games, I'll be in. Automatically Appended Next Post: It's really quite galling to see Nintendo jumping aboard this 3D bandwagon with even more hubristic enthusiasm than they did VR. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fantard - I couldn't care less for their shareholders and prestige - but I really, really like their 2D Metroid, Zelda, Advance wars and Mario games, and seeing the success of the 'mainstream' gimmick on the Wii draw them into a catastrophic 'techhead' gimmick that's very unsuited to a handheld for reasons that have been stated a hundred times if once bodes ill for the development of more good stuff.
Best case scenario is that everyone just forgets about the 3D function in favour of just making some damn games.

Garbage format but good point. To avoid a ridiculous debate, let's take it down a notch: 3D is itself just a gimmick. Saying something is a gimmick doesn't have to be negative; it's just not a substantive characteristic of the thing. In video games, I'd say a gimmick is something that has little to no effect on gameplay -- i.e., one's experience of the game would not significantly change if that factor was either present or absent. So the real question isn't whether 3D is "worth it." The question is, which is worth more to you: the bigger screen gimmick or the 3D gimmick? Also, you should take into account that some people say (rephrased: "of course, some people would whine that") it hurts their eyes and gives them headaches. Are such people genetically or psychologically inferior? You decide. Nah, I'm just kidding. The thing doesn't hurt my eyes in the slightest and you don't actually have to "lock your head" into any position. I mean, it's a handheld game -- you can adjust the angle of view with your wrists just as well as with your neck.

Btw, by August 12, 3ds price should be down by a third (to 170 euros). The thing is flopping quite badly and they need to sell more

It's not the product that's bad, but, the high price.

All the resent DS models have been not as good as the should have been. IMHO the DS lite was the last good model. The DSi should have had a jump in tech and its own more powerful branch of games, it also should have had what the 3DS only just got, descant graphics like PSP had from the start. I own a DS lite and along with my little Brother he wants too get the 3DS because of: Graphics, a Camera (which you don't need for a game console), and the good start but not great 3D effects.
PS: whats the best, longest RPG that you guys have played on the Wii and DS lite?

Mine is a DS lite. It's a great little machine. My daughter has one too but the touch tracking is going out of whack.
I didn't buy the DSi because it is region locked. I require the ability to play European, Japanese and US games all on the same console. The DS hevvy is the same, with the added disadvantage of being larger.
AFAIK the 3DS is also region locked.

If I remember from my DS lite, you can re-calibrate the touch tracking in the settings.

When I used to own a DS Lite, I also had issues with the screen being horribly misaligned and recalibrating it wouldn’t fix the issue either. None if the other DS models that I've owned, including the classic DS and DSi have had issues with the screen (or any hardware issues whatsoever).
I saw a comment about graphics and I thought I’d comment on this. With a handhelds, you have to choose between either battery life or graphics (can’t have both). Nintendo handhelds have always favoured battery life over graphics (which is why they’re the preferable option for long trips). The PSP, although is capable if nice graphics, chews through batteries like no tomorrow, so much that the market for third party batteries became a big thing. Hopefully the Vita has a more stable battery life or at the very least Sony releases extended life battery for the Vita that doesn’t leave the market >_>

For anyone saying 3D is a gimmick: so what? When the DS first came out, the touch screen was considered a gimmick. Now it has pretty much outsold every home console combined, and for good reason. It has good games. That being said, until the 3DS has pretty much nothing interesting at the moment. If they can give as good of a library as the DS, it will be worth it. but until I'm not really interested.
