I saw these guys again and that Firestorm Armada is going to be the sleeper hit like Dystopian Wars was.

Real good game, pleanty of support, and theres a few ships that make you go ??? but the whole ship to ship thing is pretty smooth in playstyle.

reminds me of that old FASA game with the hover tanks. Legion/ Centurian I think it was called.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Actually, if I may...

It is a fun game, but there is very little in the way of support for it so far. NO scenarios, and all 6 of the initial races have stats/armament that is so similar it tends to make the game repetitive after only a few games.

They will be getting better, and soon, but right now they are still a bit bland.

Dystopian Wars is currently lightyears ahead of it, with even the few rules differences that exist.

I was told it was a game wherein you started with a fleet, all the little ships got shot up early and you end up with battleships slogging it out.

Fairly simplistic and lacking in strategy from the couple of reports I've had.

So is this game really worth taking up then or would it be better to wait for something like Leviathans?

Personally I would rather bet my money on Leviathans, but I am also one who is more into alternate history and real history.

I expect Leviathans will be a little more in-depth than "roll buckets of dice, the guy with more 6s wins" but it's less visually appealing to me (hex grid, blargh.)

Yeah Leviathans is done by the same guys who do BattleTech, so expect a very detailed ruleset designed to cover just about everything.

And since we already can compare the rules: Catalyst has the way better rulebook.

It's actually an older game from the guys who make Dystopian Wars. They're updating their older model lines and filling in blanks.

Catalyst Game Labs is the current Battletech producers, and has a new game coming called Leviathans about steampunk airship combat.

On moon miranda.

that Terran Dreadnought looks ace. The game looks very cool, but none of the ranges particularly grab me, hopefully that will change, but aside from that terran dread, the models, while very nice, just don't really stike a chord with me.

For BFG people that have fleets there is a ship creator in the rule book if you want to try out the rules as well you just need a flight stand or a square piece of plastic with the fire arcs on it.

The models looked like they were made out of resin.. are they 3D printed first? seems like the best way to get a perfect symmetrical model, but I didn't think 3D printing could do little details good enough.

Given they're doing CAD models, probably. Then they just sculpt on details, make a mold, and cast a few thousand.

The larger ships like these are all resin. Unlike Forgeworld, they come with all their falsh cut off

That certainly wasn't the case when I started. It was impossible to assemble anything correctly without a belt sander.

I've just assembed a Terran Fleet. The resin models needed very little filing, just the mould lines really.

Well, this is what the first batch looked like.
http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/3111/carriere.jpg

I had to shave away 2mm from the join surfaces to make the engines fit. This was the situation for all the starting fleets. My friends who weren't willing to put in several hours of work have ships that look like they're curving towards the port of starboard.
