My favorite die is a d36. It's the most unusual die I've ever seen.
It is made of glass, with a very thin flat(ish) ring around it. On each side of the ring, there are 18 flat circular spots. It is NOT numbered 1 - 36. The numbering seems relatively random.
It's been forever since I've dug it out but, IIRC, the highest # on it is 100.

A buddy of mine found it in a wall as a teen ager, when his family was redoing their (very old) house. His dad thought it was one of his and bitched at him for managing to get his dice in the walls. lol

When he got out of gaming he gave it to me, because I always thought it was cool. I've had it for over 18 years, now.

You can have them made.
Chessex does a great job at decent prices. They can use an image you provide (within reason).
I had some made for a buddy of mine that use a very intricate chaos symbol for the 6, but they also have dice available that let you replace the 1.

My grandfather collected dice, the collection of which I inherited. He had some pretty cool dice, but none of the shapes used for modern gaming other than the proliferous d6. There were casino dice from around the world, glass d6's, round d6's, sets of Poker Dice - essentially Yahtzee with 9, 10, J, Q, K, and A faces.

I even found a set of tiny, carved ivory dice in a felt-lined wooden box. Grandma said he won them in a game while visiting Egypt.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Very cool story
I can just imagine, how tense it would have become as he bet his set of ivory dice, so here's a tiny bit of what went through my mind as i read it:
The streets fell silent as the box hit the table with a thud, all heads turned as the shadows loomed. Taking in the suspense he removed his hand from the box, assuring his bet was honest, the mans mouth mouth opened and two words escaped his thin lips. "It's on".

Seriously though, your grandpa sounds like the indiana jones of dice, finding aztec gold dice and running from a boulder

They have the "scoop o dice" at Chessex booth at GenCon each year. The price has been going up each time, too. I did it back in 2002 and have plenty of random dice now.

I have also purchased theme dice for my Black Templars, matched sets for each new D&D character I've played with, and so on.

Crown Royal bags are perfect for dice bags, too. But you should only put one army or D&D character's dice in a given bag. To do otherwise is to taunt the dice gods. Only a fool does that.

Also, when playing D&D, never touch another man's dice. If a die lands in your area, use a pencil or book to push it back to the other person. Never just grab it.

I fully believe that every player of any game should be forced to read this dice article and sign a form stating that they will follow the rules found within.

It's just that important.

OR I can give the guy who hands me such a document the finger and play with someone who doesn't annoy the out of me.

Im kinda in the market for some new dice too. Im looking for ones that are made from more exotic materials though; like glass, stone, bone, ivory (though i wonder if its possible to even get those anymore), hell, ive heard you can get dice made from meteorites. Anyone know of a manufacturer that might deal with those kinds of materials?

My FLGS has a wall of Chessex dice and some other brand that is similar, along with a few other random types of dice. Every time I go there I'm tempted to buy a new set of dice and I think I'd still be tempted if I didn't play any games involving dice. Kept my self to 1 GW set and two Chessex sets.

My best dice are a set of pink with black dots. Why the best? I saw this same block of dice in my LGS for about 3-4 years(13-17 ish) and noone ever bought them. What manly gamer-man would game with pink dice?

The dice knew this, and over the years they subtly called to me, promising me luck beyond measure if I made them mine. I finally relented, annd they have served me well ever since.

They are also the only dice I can give to somebody else that still roll well for me afterwards(well, without a good wash first. Yup, I wash my dice after letting people borrow them. My one superstitous quirk).

ScatterDice, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I needs me some of the size that'll fit in the 36 dice box. Got any links anyone. I browsed the Chessex site, but didn't find any (maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot). I would love to find a place/company that sold them singly so I could stock my boxes.

And they say satire is dead. Swift himself probably would've gotten a chuckle out of that article. Of course, I would pity the poor fool who takes his rolling so 'serious business' that he'd take that article seriously.

Well, by giving the dice the bottle of crown, you made an offering to the Dice Gods. Obviously, they accepted your offer. This is good. You are clear and may bring said bag of dice to the gaming table, wise sir.

thanks for the link. Unfortunately those are the bigger dice. I was hoping for some 12mm dice to go into the 36 count dicebox. No biggie. I'll either buy a GW box and move the scatter over or just use big scatters. I just thought someone would carry them singly.
