My stuff in the Sig is all painted. I actually should update it, as I've gotten some more stuff painted (grey knights) and other stuff has stagnated (eldar)

my stuff is not only not painted by me, it has all recently been stripped to bare meta/plastic/resin so that I can start paining it. So zero % right now, and I have a lot of work ahead of me to paint it all.

Not sure on my points, but my Orks are 90% painted. I guess I have around 4000 points. BUT... I'd say only 25% of those are painted to a high standard. They were my starter army so most are badly painted with unflocked bases. My plan is to go back tidy all of those up. Someday.

My Space Wolves/Space Marines are 80% painted, but I tried my own colour scheme on the Wolves which I don't like. I use them occasionally but no plans on tidying up or finishing them off.

Necrons, 99% painted. But I only have 1750 points at a stretch. Would be 100% but I bought a half painted Monolith off a mate the other night.

Tyranids. My new army. Technically 100% of my assembled models are painted. I'm assembling and painting one unit at a time and so far only have a Hive Tyrant, Termagants and Genestealers (finished last night) assembled. Battleforce, Gargoyles & Trygon are unopened - but not for long.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

I've considered posting my armies/points totals, but... how does one tote up the total?

Largest legal army build?

Base point value of models?

Point values of models with maximum magic upgrades (since I play WFB?)

These can vary incredibly wildly. So... which one is considered the 'proper' one?

The way I've approached it is to include all upgrades and weapons that you would take in a large, but still restricted in terms of points, mega game.

Even at in a 12,000 point game, there are things you won't waste points on.

I have no points numbers. But everything I list as part of my army in their profiles is fully painted.

I assemble and paint a unit and, when it's finished, start playing with it.

I have probably 80% of my IG army painted, all the infantry done, only need to work on some tanks.
My Chaos Daemons, though are another story. probably only 15-20% of them are painted. I have been having a lot of trouble deciding on a paint scheme and style.

Follow up question.

Those whose points in your sig include unpainted figures. Are those figures assembled or unassembled?

Good Heavens! What posessed you to strip the paint of thousands of points of more than one army at the same time?

I don't think it's at all tied to the "Largest Legal Army build" as it's more of a measure of a collection than a measure of an army list.

As for the other measurements, I would lean toward point values of the figures as WYSIWYG or as they are likely to be played used by you. Inflating them with maximum magic upgrades or by putting grenades on ever squad seems a bit phony to me, but of course there's no hard and fast rule.

Either way, it seems that most army points in signintures are rounded to the nearest hundred or thousand anyway, so I don't think anyone's scrutinizing the tallies that thoroughly.

Reason for stripping minis: I have acquired my hoard form many different sellers most look like gak on a stick so I strip them to bare whatever. Personally I prefer unpainted vs badly painted. example this ebay lot that I just won http://www.ebay.com/itm/390338454664#ht_952wt_1185 most of these were bad paint jobs from the mid 90s

The points in my sig, I calculate them like this. A basic Farseer is 55pts, a Fire Dragon Exarch is 28 pts, Hive Tyrant is 170pts. Basically I use the lowest legal points load out available for the model. Nearly all of my models are assembled, some are in the process of being magnetized for arm/weapon swapouts.

I really don't like playing models that aren't painted either. My problem is I work a lot and can't use an air brush so I get maybe 4-5hrs a night to build n paint. It doesnt help that Ive had 5 armies in the year I've been playing lol! Now that in kinda down to 1 army that I like and I'm sticking with it won't be as bad. Though cuz of ard boyz I got into the habit of buying/building everything then I'll go back and paint it. I actually have around 5k pts in Grey Knights right now lol

All of the stuff is marked painted in my sig that is painted. Of course that doesn't include my other gaming armies that are painted:

Large Bretonnian army for whfb
Several mordheim warbands
Several BFG fleets
Perry Miniatures British Sudan
A large roman army from Warlord (WAB and BP)
A FOW german army
15mm French Napoleonics (several brigades)
LOTR Rivendell Elves and Isengard armies
10mm Austrain army for Seven Years War

And then there is the ongoing and ever increasing pile of armies that are partially assembled, unassembled, partially assembled, partially painted ( off the top of my head: F&IW indians, 28mm crusades army for WAB, more BFG fleets, 1/300 ww2 aircraft, 1/600 vietnam era aircraft, a WHFB WOC army, and the Eldar army in my sig that has gotten no traction).

And even though it might not look like it, I've gotten much better lately about not buying stuff I'm not going to get to :-)

I calc my points like this: If I field every (or nearly every) painted model I have, how large of a game could I play? Note that my points include wargear and whatnot. I'm not going to put a naked Vampire Lord in my list, so why would I count my points that way?

Listing unpainted stuff is a bit deceptive, IMO. I mean, I could easily claim to have a 20,000+ pt. Epic Imperial Army because I have 2 Imperators, 14 Warlords, and probably 10 companies of Guardsmen. However, only 2 Warlords, a tank company, and 2 infantry companies are painted. The rest is not an army, it's a pile of plastic pieces and unworthy of discussion.

Likewise, any army that has so little painted I wouldn't even play a game of that size isn't listed. Chief offenders here are my Skaven (maybe 500pts painted), but also High Elves, Daemons, Warriors of Chaos, etc...

Right now I have the most unpainted stuff I've ever had. Right now my stock pile includes:
1 chaos land raider, 2 chaos rhinos (All with forgeworld bits), 15 chaos marines (base coated and trim painted, needing to wash and highlight),5 terminators still on the sprue, and I'm waiting (praying) for forgeworld to make Word Bearer Terminator shoulder pads so I can finish off my remaining terminators
Next, I have to finish the bases for 30 space wolves and I have 5 terminators and a land raider crusader, 2 rhinos, a razor back, and 2 drop pods. The drop pods are the only thing that I are bare - the rest of the vehicles just need highlighting.
Next, I have my Warriors of Chaos - I've got to finish basing my warriors, I've got 1 Lord on a Steed of Slaanesh, a Cannon, 2 spawn, and the two sorcerors (each 80% finished - need to do highlights).
Lizardmen (I'm going to use the army painter dip to finish this army - I got a smoking deal on them - approx 4000 points for $150 and all models were on sprues! When I finished digging around the box, I even found a Forgeworld Games Day Slaan in the box! I just need to make a palaquin for him and I can start using him).
Otherwise, I've got a Dark Angels Army ~2,000 points (fully painted), Imperial Guard Army ~ 4,000 points painted, Space Wolves ~ 2000 points painted with another ~1500-2000 points on the way, Word Bearers ~2000 points with another 1000 on the way, Salamanders ~2500 points fully painted, Ultramarines ~1750 fully painted, Eldar ~3000 points painted, Vampire Counts 2500 fully painted, Tomb Kings 2000 points fully painted. I buy most of my stuff second hand and have only been buying a few items new. I've slowed down on the painting due to family/life. I haven't bought a new item to paint now for several months now.
