Those original chaos marines are great. I see some old names in there as well (lothar bubonicus...) and that World Eaters group shot with the old bloodthirster reminds me of the picture in Slaves to Darkness with them taking on the ultramarines.

Thank you brother! A great deal of inspiration came from those unhallowed tomes!

Skalk Bloodaxe wrote:I also noticed you cut the heads off some old models to put on your LR

I'll be honest, it was very painful to do! Especially as the Bloodletter head is from an almost impossible to get hold of Titan (Banelord I think)!

I wrote:I'm not gonna do much more to the army for a while I think. There's not much more I can do with the current codex

Remember when I said this? I lied!

In an effort to make my beloved World Eaters more "competitive" (how I hate that word when applied to toy soldiers...), I'll be adding a few more bits in the coming weeks. First up are some slightly dodgy pics of my 2nd Daemon Prince and Rhino. The more observant among you may recognise the Rhino as what used to be my Vindicator.... I'm afraid it paid the price for being so rubbish in-game. Look out for some old-school Obliterators in WE colours in the near future too (guns in mouths!!)....

This is a perfect example of the "size creep" I've been complaining about since... oh, 1996? A mighty Bloodthirster demoted from Greater Daemon to Daemon Prince.

*sigh*

No doubt you'll do him justice with an amazing paint job, but even Khorne must be roaring in rage at how badly his stats are nerfed.

... and I still hate the heads on the current 'Thirster.

I heartily agree! Although I do use one of them as a proper Bloodthirster in my Daemon army

And now (drumroll please!), it's time for an update.....

I've finished the 2nd Rhino:

Let me know what you think!

I've also been painting up a whole bunch of terrain (not Khorne-themed, but pretty cool nevertheless...), so I'll post some pics soon!

Your conversions are so EPIC! Wow! I'm following some really good threads right now and yours is right up there with my favorites. Excellent work and incredibly inspiring.

Your selection you have in your bitz collection is impressive.

Nice rivets. Perhaps you should apply for membership with the League of Extraordinary Riveters.

Dude I love your army! I'm a big fan of refurbishing old figures and you've done a great job here. I especially like the vehicles and how you've hybridized them with new parts to give them an updated look. I would have kept the vindicator though, they're quite awesome.

Wow, I'm not sure i was even alive when some of those minis were made. I certainly wasn't in the hobby.

Greetings brothers, it's update time!!

First up, some of the worst models GW have ever made (perhaps a bit harsh, they're not as bad as the old metal possessed...), but I'm rather fond of them...

Old school Obliterators (in WE colours of course):

1st squad:

2nd squad:

Guns in mouths ftw! These guys make up the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th old school Obliterators that I've painted... phew! Not that I'd ever use them all at once of course (well, up to nine of them anyway)....

And as promised, some of the terrain I've been working on:

Craters:

Arcane Ruins:

Temple of Skulls 1:

Temple of Skulls 2:

You literally would not believe the amount of Devlan Mud I've used on all that terrain... An expensive way of doing it, but it's quick and dirty and gives a great effect.

That's all for now! I'm currently working on a Battlescape and the Khorne DP I posted before. Let me know what you think!

Those old Obliterators are truly horrid sculpts. As much a fan as I am of the older range of miniatures, they are a moment in Citadel history that is flat-out embarrassing. Ugh. But you made them look as good as they can.

The terrain is amazing! And I hear you on the Dev Mud $$$. That and Griffon Sepia are my main expenses in any project I do because I seem to run out of it frequently.

That is one of the most intense and well done display of old miniatures (any really, but you you know what I mean) I've seen in a while. Very solid scheme, frighteningly formidable, and each piece worthy of individual display. Absolutely loving this project.

Hoping you have a game to stomp someone into a mudhole soon, would really enjoy seeing a BatRep!

Love the colour of the DG, really nice.

That Tyrant head on the BT is inspired as well, very cool.

Thats a terrain set to be envious of!

^ What he said. Haven't seen one of those in YEARS and then I see two on Dakka in the same day.

What are running it as? Is it a Blood Slaughterer, or a "counts as" model?

Hail brothers!

Got a little update for you tonight... got the Blood Slaughterer finished:

It's a right weird little model, but I think that adds to its charm and it really epitomises old school Chaos!

Skalk Bloodaxe wrote:Is it a Blood Slaughterer, or a "counts as" model?

The little guy is so small compared to the Forge World (awesome) model, that I'm just gonna be running him as a Dread.

Funky little thing, but it really does have charm. The gore on the axe is nice, and the blue is perfect with the red. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is the base. I think it's the neatness of the grass patches. The skellies are a nice touch, though

What's next?

Got a small update for you tonight: A third reconditioned Khornate Rhino, courtesy of the Dark Mechanicus (or eBay to you and I...)

Put a bit less conversion work into this one, mainly because it arrived in pretty good condition. What do you guys think, does it need more added to it, or does it work as is? I'm definitely one for keeping my vehicles fairly simple mind you. Let me know your thoughts brothers!

I like it... though just for practicality you might add a little reinforcing structure to those chain swords out front.

Thanks for the praise, much appreciated! Gotta ask though, what is this "bitz order Defiler"?? Whatever it is, I must have one!

Hey! Check this thread out for details!:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/348625.page

To summerize, before the pastic one came out, GW supposedly had a bitz "kit" that you could briefly purchase. As you can see from the pics in the above thread, it is what it is, a cobbled together Defiler made from various bitz, but "official" to some extent!
