You guys do know that Earth is following the Sun who is also traveling around the galaxy? We will not be in roughly same position in some 38.000 years in what we are today. Nothin in this universe is stationary ( except the universe itself but we don't know that - yet ). Galaxies travel across space, Suns are traveling in great spirals around it's galaxy while it's planets are following her. The only thing is that this process is VERY slow even by our standards.
The problem isn't that it's rotated to the other side. The problem is it has drifted inwards. Good Job reading everyone's posts, mate.

From what i've seen so far the independent worlds in the WH40K universe always seem to be used as a staging ground for chaos cults that have taken root long before imperials disconvered them or as a launching point for some unspeakable horror that has just been awoken to fight the IoM

I gave some thoughts to this as well, but Wikipedia told me that the rotational period of our Milky Way is in the tens or hundreds of millions of years.

I never said the Sol is going to the center on the galaxy, I am just saying that Sol is going around the galactic core ( following an arm in witch it is ). And thanks

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?

This discussion is really off-topic.
But I'll still explain.
Firstly, the starmap posted by Psienesis ( http://www.cold-moon.com/40k/40k_starmap.htm) is fan-made, and the canon map is here:
Secondly, on the fan-made starmap Earth only seems to be closer to the centre of the Galaxy.
So on both maps Earth is on its own right place, in Orion Arm.
So Terra=Earth, and not the WHFB world or something else.

The nature of the IoM and human space travel means that vast areas of space within the IoM have never seen a IoM ship.
This is due to most human travel revolving around easily traversed warp routes, this allows any number of human and xeno worlds to exist while still in what should be IoM space.

In fact it's a tad arrogant (no...really) for thr IOM to claim areas of space it's never even explored...
Not that that hasn't been done before...
