I started playing Sisters when they first came out in 2nd ed, as a Chapter Approved WD army list, because I wanted to play a new army that was somewhere between my 1st ed Imperial Guard and 2nd ed Space Marines. At the time, Sisters were billed as Guard (stat-line) with Marine equipment (Armor, Armory, and Armament), and played very much like "Marines-Lite" yet with their own flare and power combos (Easy-Bake Oven, ftw!). Actually found them to be faster, harder hitting to the Marines slower relentless pace, at the time, because even then they had the vehicle based MSU playstyle we have all come to know and love/hate.

Their current incarnation is actually quite close to how they started, in the odd sort of full circle they've gone through from 2nd to 5th. And while I'm not particularly happy with the bulk of the changes in this edition, they are still Sister of Battle. As such, I'm giving it a go at playing them with the new mini-Dex, as an off-army for when my Ghostwing needs a break from breaking other people's armies.

So in a 2 v 2 game or more its still ok to take say SoB for one player and the other takes IG or SM?

I have been using my BA as sisters since the white dwarf codex has come out. I would have started with a SOB army but a lack of plastics made it way too expensive.

I have played two 1000pt games one against IG (two leman Russes, 3 sentinals and the rest were vet infantry and a command squad). And a green tide ork list (Warboss, boyz, boyz, boyz, 2 Deffcopter, boyz, boyz, Kommandos and did i mention more boyz?) I won both games quite comfortably and I am enjoying the new Codex. (pitched battle, victory points)

This is the list I used against the orks (trying to recall off the top of my head)

HQ
Saint Celestine

Troops
2x Battle Sister squads with 2 heavy flamers in Rhinos (with HK)

Heavy support
2x Exorcists
1x Retributor Squad 4x heavy bolter (with immolator with mm and SB)

The list against the IG was basically the same but replacing the Retributor squad with a Seraphim squad.

Firstly I love the st Celestine she will be in every list I play. She is fairly useless in cc but the other player can't just ignore her. I throw her out into the open to absorb fire from the enemy and if she gets killed she pops back up (usually). This happened with the IG player. One round where she drew most of the IG fire, died and then popped up with all her wounds back in the next turn and was able to get into cc with his vets and kill two squads. I had to make sure to keep her away from his sentinels or else she would have been stuck in combat forever (i don;t think she can do much against armor except for one krak grenade). Against the orks she was able to keep a warboss and 15 boyz tied up for 3 turns. In hind sight I wouldn't have charged into cc on my turn. I would force the ork to charge me keeping that unit from moving closer to my lines and not risk giving them a consolidation move (in my turn) and if they didn't charge I would just keep hitting the unit with templates. The ardent blade template is far more effective than her CC ability. She is a great bullet sponge and tar pit unit that just keep coming back and for only 115pt she is a keeper in my book.

The exorcist is amazing but not so great at destroying AV14 armor. The best I was able to manage against the russes was to keep them stunned or shaken for most of the game but I didn't destroy either. I managed one weapon destroyed.

The Seraphim squad got hit by a blast tempate on turn one and they all would have died but I was able to save a few with the shield of faith.

I quite liked the faith system, simple for me to use and the acts of faith are useful if used correctly.

I never played with the old witch hunters dex so my only experience is with this new one. I do enjoy it and will be continuing to play them but some units do need to be fixed.

I hate to burst any bubbles, but I happen to know people who know people, who rob people. They tell me that there are NO plans for Sisters in the near or distant future. They also tell me the only reason the WD dex was done was so there was not a huge contrast between items listed in both the Grey Knight codex and the Witch Hunters Codex, like Arco flagellants and assassins.

Hmm.

The Blood Angels Codex was released a few years after the WD Codex. I would expect something similar fo SoB. They might leave it quite late, till everyone thinks that there is no chance of a new Codex...

Then, POOF! GW releases a new Codex and new kits, thus everyone buys it, and thus it's money for GW, happy SoB players, and, as Pouncy put it, plastic boobies.

...Well, maybe not the plastic boobies, seeing as GW likes to avoid going down the "sexy" route with female models. With the exception of the Lhamaen, Wyches and the Succubus. They were awesome.

Don't forget the old metal Daemonettes. ^_^

And the current metal ones have metal boobies. Why wouldn't the plastic ones have plastic boobies?

I bring out my Sisters of Battle army every once and awhile when I find an opponant worth playing. And by worth playing I meen that I like you, your army is fully painted, your not proxing and any conversions look good. If you fail in any of these aspects you'll probably never even know that I have a large Sisters of Battle army.

It's not like the WD Dex is completely unplayable.

Certainly not, but it's nowhere close to what the Sisters deserve.

We'll get ours. ^_^

Hopefully near the beginning of 6th edition, and not near the end of 5th or god forbid the end of 6th. And EMPEROR forbid the end of 7th or 8th.

Personally, I think the codex will be much better if it came out at the tail end of 5th. Changes made in 6th will probably be influenced by the codices in 5th to make the game smoother. Codex Space Marines, I think, is one of the weaker 5th ed codices specifically because it was the first codex out for 5th. The rules hadn't yet been given their trial by fire by the gaming public, and so lacked a lot of the more complexity later codices have. To me, it smacked of a "safe" codex, perfectly compatible with 5th while pushing few boundaries. In contrast, I suspect the Sisters codex will be filled with lots of neat tricks, character, strong alternate army builds and hat pulls to make for a very interesting game.

And I of course base all of this on absolutely nothing.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I don't think GW would have missed the opportunity to convert them to Finecast unless they were planning on making a replacement plastic kit in the future.

The new 'dex refines the Sisters, which leaves them fairly sparse and boring. I really like that Jacobus is back... and that's about it. I'm happy-average with everything else.

I wouldn't hold your breath for a full codex or model release anytime soon. If the BA dex is any indication your wait can be measured in years. And BA are and were infinitely more popular than SoB.

The GK codex already saws signs that it was written with 6th in mind, based on the rumors that have been floating around.

Assault weapons adding a addtional attack in CC = GK's all have Stormbolters.

Deep strikers being able to move depending on how close they land to an enemy = GK can control how and where they land via Servo-Skull, Teleport Homers, The Summoning, etc.

And those are just two examples. When the Sisters get their 'dex, it will be a 6th ed Dex regardless of its release date (unless its release 5 years from now, then its'll be 7th ed Dex).

Yes and they also had true grit which gave them an additional attack if armed with Stormbolters.

Two things:
1. GKs always had SBs so that wasn't any sort of look forward to 6ed.
2. I wouldn't hold my breath on Assault weapons adding an attack in CC, being as that would include meltas, shotguns, shrunken catapults, etc. Fundamentally changing the penalties inherent in using those weapons in favor of a pistol and CCW. Roumors are rumors, but stabbed things have happened.

Hm, actually, thinking about a small bit we were talking about earlier, I wouldn't mind if Sisters of Battle lost the boobs sculpted onto their armor in the plastic versions. I'd be good either way on that, at least as long as their armor was sculpted in a way that subtly said "female within," and not just a copy of Space Marine armor.

I think the armour and robes should keep the form they have now - just make them more refined, add more detail (purity seals, inscriptions, paraphernalia).

Really, they've looked that way for 20 years and have several in-universe reasons for why they do - it'd just be weird if they would change their looks overnight, in doing so also invalidating a good deal of images. It'd be as if GW would suddenly change the way Marine helmets look.

What I am praying for, however, is that any new minis - if we ever get them - will NOT have high heels. Seriously, the amount of actually decent fan-art and even cosplay where someone added high heels ... it drives me mad!

:: nod nod :: That's a large part of why I'd be good with them keeping the boob armor. ^_^ It's traditional. ^_^

That plus... I kinda like painting the boobs. o///o

It makes me feel like I'm doing things I wouldn't normally do in real life... Or at least it used to, before I painted like 30 pairs of them. Now it's more like, "Yeah, it's boob armor, so what?"

2. They need to be sexier. It's the only faction in WH40K that is predominantly female. Number one way to get adolescent boys interested in something? Sex it up.

There is an optional third thing. Might help.

3. Make a half decent codex that isn't published on the back of a napkin.

Personally, the WD dex just left me utterly cold. My Sisters are still in retirement until something interesting comes along for them, or my friends and I finish making our own dex for them. It's all just terribly, terribly unexciting.
