The centre of a massive brood chamber, heaving and pulsating.

Ever since the White Dwarf Codex came out for the Sisters of Battle, I haven't seen a single SoB army list on DakkaDakka.

What's going on?

What's above plus a basic troop costs about 80 USD and a whole army comes in at 150-200% the average cost of a MeQ army.

An overwhelmingly 'meh' patch-fix. Did we see terribly many Blood Angels lists when the WD codex came out years ago?

It's not a very popular faction for many reasons.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

you dont see that many SoB lists for several reasons. one beeing that they are extremly costly to collect. And secondly that they are not good at all when it comes to acctualy playing them. Its sad really, because I wanted them to become playebal, but it dose not seem like this will happen anytime soon thou

I played one game with the new SoB dex. Slaughtered my opponent horrifically, to the point she surrendered after turn 3 or 4.

Since then, I've gotten more into World of Warcraft, and haven't paid much attention to my Sisters of Battle or indeed WH40k in general.

I meant to buy the new Codex, I just haven't gotten around to it. Honestly, I don't have the money to start a second army, but I'd like to know what they can do. To be honest, I've never seen much interest in the Sisters of Battle, and I think that the army as a whole gets very little love from the company.

And you'd think right. It gets less love than Dark Eldar or Dark Angels...

Dark Eldar got some and is still getting some good love since the current codex came out.

The new mini-dex only lends itself to a few viable army lists, which aren't all that exciting or different from each other except for the swapping out of one or two units out of player preference.

They're in a lose/lose situation with them. No one plays them, so they don't get supported, so no one plays them.

Dark Eldar have gotten more love than any other army in any of GW's big 3 when it comes to models.

Not to mention that their rules are quite good.

At this point though, you'd probably be better off playing Tau or Necrons than SoB. At least one of those two should get a real codex.

They all gave up on the mini dex and are playing them as Space Marines or Inquisitorial Henchmen armies.

Lies.

I have had nothing but good experiences with the army I made from the WD Dex.

Albeit, that was only one game, but I'm looking forward to playing more once I get home from vacation. ^_^

The WD Codex is interesting. I really wish I still had my army. I would love to playtest this stuff.

The new codex is merely adequate. Its not an improvement y any means. Its not an upgrade to 5th edition codex standards for certain. I'm not putting down any more troops than I did before nor are they better equipped to handle close range gunfights or assaults. In fact they are less in both categories. In my opinion, Sisters are weaker than they were before. Sisters was my first army, but they are now on a downward slump I think. They lack a champion at the studio, so its doubtful they will be treated well in the future. If anything Cruddace outdid himself in the mediocrity of this codex. I've played 6 games with them 3 versus Tau and 3 versus Space Marines. I won 2 Tau games both pretty handily and lost the 3rd. I lost quite badly in 1 space marine game, barely lost a 2nd, and won the third barely. I chalk up my wins to my superior skill against my opponents (not that I am a great player, but I was better than they were at least). My losses are against opponents of fairly equal skill levels.

My list generally went like this

HQ
St Celestine
Jacobus with Battle Conclave (6 DCA's and 3 Crusaders) in a Rhino

Fast Attack
10 x Seraphim with 2 twin hand flamers
5 Dominions with 2 melatguns in an Immolator
5 Dominions with 2 meltaguns in an Immolator

Troops
2 Battle Sister squads with 2 meltaguns in Rhinos
1 Battle Sister squad with 2 flamers in a Rhino
.
Heavy Support
3 Exorcists

St Celestine is largely useless for anything though since she doesn't even kill that much in close combat She's only good for a KP denial. That is all. I probably won't be using her again. Exorcists are still streaky so they usefulness is completely random. Dominions and Battle Conclaves are the stars of the new codex and Jacobus is the only HQ worth his points

My mom does. But she's a nerd who was a gamer herself back in her college days, and continues to play tabletop games. That's who I play with now. ^_^

Two things need to happen to make SoB popular. If these happen, I promise you that there will be a new flock of gamers ready to sign right up.

1. SoB need new models or a reduction in price of current ones. This would suggest giving them a troops box set that actually fulfills the minimum model requirement (10)

2. They need to be sexier. It's the only faction in WH40K that is predominantly female. Number one way to get adolescent boys interested in something? Sex it up.

There is an optional third thing. Might help.

3. Make a half decent codex that isn't published on the back of a napkin.

Really? Kids these days don't find the Sisters of Battle minis to be sexy?

Well, okay, I guess. But only if there's no plate bikinis... except for Repentia. They can keep theirs. ^_^

Does a WD codex even count as "official", or is it just a "Hey, let's try this and see what happens for lulz" kinda deal?
That being said, I think it's actually a good thing they put this codex out. It gives time to playtest, and probably (as in sooner than later) get an actual, devoted codex, just like any other army. And probably some newer models.

Mmhm. ^_^

It's like, "Yay! Attention!" but then some poopieheads are more like, "Awww, I want headrub, not backrub..." without realize that backrub often leads to headrub...

But both headrubs and backrubs make the nice Pouncey sleepy... Just so relaxing and want to sleep and- :: falls over and sleeps, dreaming wonderful dreams of being ravished by Battle Sisters ::

Word.

I think it's important to remember that this is a filler 'dex and probably (hopefully) not the end of the line, and the rules in WD are meant to be 'playable,' not necessarily 'competitive' or even 'good'. AFAIK, they are slated for an update, and scuttlebutt has it they're going to be one of the first new codices of 6th ed. By then, they'll most likely get the Dark Eldar treatment with an entirely new line of plastic/finecast miniatures, a bunch of new units and an updated codex. It's just a matter of time.

Huh?

I've revealed I play with my mom lots of times before. Meh, I guess not everyone reads my posts.

Something wrong with playing WH40k with my mom and also happening to like fictional boobies?

Back on topic, when I get home next week, I'll see if I can't get together a Sisters of Battle list and play it against my mom's Space Marines. ^_^
