Round would be my preference, but the square one is OK too - anything that gets me a squad (or two!) of Jetbikes will work for me!

Really liking the boxy exhaust. What will you be arming them with, or will you put a place to put your own weapon?

Don't worry Alpharius, you'll have all the jetbikes you could possibly want.

Both will just have twin guns up front in the eye sockets. But I am planning on a second variant of these two which will have a space for a gunner behind the pilot. However, I need to get these done first.

Well it's been another busy two days but the masters are finally done! So without further ado let me present to you the components for the Talon and Mako Assault Speeders:

The front ends:

The main section:

The jet engines:

The handle bars:

And finally the whole assembly:

Next up I have to make the first set of molds so that I can make enough copies for the production molds. With any luck these will be in my store in early December.

The first set of prototype molds is complete but they is still some tweaking and clean-up to do before I make the production molds. However, here is a fully assembled one to give you an idea how they look:

And the Mako Assault Speeder:

So what do you guys think?

Looking awesome. Will the different engines be available for both front-end styles?

Looking good, I would recommend spending some time doing a final clean up on the master. It looks like it needs a few more hours of final filling and ultra-fine wet sanding. I often use superglue & baking soda for the areas that are too shallow for greenstuff. If you can put the time into the master your casts will be considerably better.

By default they will be sold in the configurations they are now, but I will offer the option to swap engines upon request.

Yep, these are the prototype molds. The production versions will be much cleaner.

Fantastic. You might also consider doing a few different sorts of legs to go with these.

- Generic Heavy Armour Legs
- Generic Human Fatigues

If people buy them to put their own riders on, then legs that fit a bike are much harder to come by that torsos and arms...

Lovely work. A very distinctive take on the jetbike idea, that still fits in nicely with the 'Imperial' aesthetic.

The only thing that doesn't sit quite right is the length of the main body. Looking at the pics with the marine in place, I think it would have looked better with a couple of mm less in the seat, so the back of the seat was up against his backpack. Or even slightly shorter so that the backpack can be removed, and his armour plugged directly into the seat back as is done on GW's attack bike sidecar.

Still, it's a brilliant piece of scratch-building. Good job, that man!

The wait is nearly over. I cleaned up the first casts, made some modifications to the seat based on feedback, and am now in full production mode.

The first batch of Mako and Talon Assault Speeders will go on sale in my eBay store on Friday December 16th at 7:00 Eastern Standard Time. I will also have a limited number of GW Space Marine Bike Riders for sale.

Great work. I've ordered 5 Talons, looking forward to getting them. They should be a good way for me to get back into painting my rather neglected SM army.

Well a number of people have been asking me about making another variant of the assault speeder that looks a bit more like the one seen in those art books about some guy stuck on a gold toliet and his son who's suffering from daddy issues. So I finally sat down and started gluing plastic together. Here's what I have thus far:

Once this is finished I'll be making a matching set of engines to go along with it. The rest will use the same bits as the other assault speeders. As always, much to do....

From the front it resembles a Lion, was that intentional? Sort of a LEO variant? It looks great! I wish I was still going to do a Crusade era army, I still might, so I'll keep you in mind!

A lion wasn't my intention but now that you mention it, it kind of does have that appearance at the moment. I was thinking of calling this variant the Cobra.

Alpharius wrote:I'm really liking this variant...

Actually these are big enough that a true scale marine wouldn't look out of place on it. The trick would be modeling the legs and torso to fit

Nrljm wrote:Wow looking good, might have to pick up a couple... Our of curiosity which pre heresy legions used jetbikes, all of them? Or were only a few legions lucky enough to get them?

Based on the art books it looks like all the pre-Heresy armies had them, although I'm sure some would have had more then others. The only one that may not have had many, or if at all, would be the Salamanders as their fluff says they avoided anti-grav technology due to their planet's high gravity.
