Of course... but when's the last time we got a kit like that? In light of that, a single-frame version would be a welcome alternative.

On the 40k subject, random Imperial Guard officers would be nice, especially those styled after certain Dawn of War commanders.

Yeah when's 40k getting some love?

I wonder if they're saving it all for 6th edition.

Most likely. Remember, this year is a Fantasy year, not a 40k year. That's why it's been getting all the love this year.

when is 40K getting some love?

The CEO of GW explained this year's (and last year's) Fantasy focused strategy months ago. Though the strategy was obvious just from looking at what product's have been released.

There's also quite a bit about the Finecast release if you read the full statement.

Warhammer relaunch

This was an important year for our Warhammer game. The huge success that had been enjoyed by the futuristic Warhammer 40,000 game over recent years had rather overshadowed its older sibling. As a result, many new customers had yet to experience the joy of massed regiments of swordsmen and mounted cavalry doing battle with monsters and wizards across the magic infested landscapes of the Warhammer world. In commercial terms this meant that we were not getting a good enough return on the investment in product development for this range, so we decided it was time to redress the balance.

Games Workshop Group PLC Warhammer relaunch continued Our design team made a number of changes to the Warhammer game that make it much more exciting to play and introduced a range of
new plastic kits, including plenty of new monsters that have not only reignited interest from existing customers but attracted new hobbyists to the fantasy genre. To add further weight to the Warhammer universe, Forge World has launched a range of large scale models and books under the brand Warhammer Forge to much excitement among the Hobby community.

We will continue our support for this revitalised game system this summer with a new Warhammer gaming supplement, Storm of Magic, accompanied by a range of impressive new monsters and scenery. There has never been a better time to be a Warhammer customer.

I can guarantee it would sell like hotcakes too, due to everyone and their dog that plays space marines using librarians.

TBH, a kit like I'd prefer wouldn't be a useful as in the wizard example, either. I'm just pushing it, I guess. A single-frame plastic chaplain or librarian would indeed be welcome and more realistic.

I'd buy one, and I own something like 12 of the blighters already(the vast majority for my Dark Angels alone).

That actually brings up an interesting point.

They could use it to do generic characters for different Chapters or Craftworlds or Regiments, couldn't they?

No they wouldn't, since plastic needs to sell very well to make its money back. Archon's court isn't exactly a unit to die for in the DE codex, and not every DE player would buy them. Now a plastic chaplain, librarian, CSM sorcerer, Broodlord, or any number of other models could be successful since a lot of folks would buy them.

I love the concept of the plastic heroes, but going back to single pose figures for more money than in metal seems counter productive. (and yes, I know that Finecast does the same).

Going back to single pose figures? Characters have always been single pose metals, now single pose finecast.

Some of the plastic Fantasy heroes are really nice. Look at the Necromancer. with his thin cloak sweeping forward, it couldn't have been done in metal (hello razor sharl cloak and complete inability to pin) or finecast (hello snapping cloak). Look at the Tzeench Sorcerer. There's plenty of potential in these plastic heroes.

They're also cheaper than finecast single models.

Thanks for posting Brass, interesting stuff there.

Of course Fantasy might also be underperforming since they're selling a game that appeals to the same niche and is refreshingly skull free.

You're right that the way the Archon's Court was released was bad, but plastic blisters wasn't the answer. They should have been in a small box.

But yeah, viva la more single-frame plastic minis. They’re fantastic.

Additionally The Cairn Wraith showed us you can put limited options in there as well, so I could easily see a Chaplain frame coming with a Bolt Pistol hand and a Plasma Pistol hand (as an example), or perhaps alternate shoulder pads for the main Chapters.

To be fair, the options for the Cairn Wraith are just different faces.

I wouldn't even really call them options, as they don't change the overall feel of the model. A few snips with clippers on the arms, however and you have a very different position for the scythe.

Don't get me wrong. I like the Cairn Wraith. I have 3 of them, alongside a Tomb Banshee and the new Necromancer.

The problem is that with the Cairn Wraith and Tomb Banshee--they really are seemingly set up to be characters in and of themselves.

Their posing is unique, their shape is unique, everything about them is unique.

It didn't bother me until I ranked up my Cairn Wraiths for a unit, and realized it looks like if one were to field a Sternguard unit made entirely of Cortez.

Almost like they wrote rules for them being Heroes in a magazine in the release month.

I know. I have those rules.

But still, it would have been nice at the least if the arms and scythes had been separate so that you could do a bit more with them.

The Banshee, there's no way in hell I'm having more than one of simply because I won't be able to make it look different enough.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I am very annoyed that we got the absolutely gorgeous Zombie Dragon/Terrorgheist kit--and there's no feasible way without massive sculpting chops to be able to field a dismounted Blood Dragon Vampire utilizing the same armour style. It's slightly silly to complain about, as it seems like complaining that my gold bar isn't shining right--but with the fact that a Zombie Dragon can die fairly easy...it'd be nice to be able to have a dismounted version to field as well for those inevitable times when Alfred and Pennyworth have to say their tearful goodbyes.

WAT.

This is an =I=munda nerdgasm. Brian Nelson's sculpts are arguably the best thing going in the GW line right now. I honestly could care less if 40k isn't getting the same treatment, because I'm buying the Fantasy kits in spades and I don't, nor have I ever played Fantasy. Hell, I don't even really play 40k right now. But these kits are so damn nice I just can't help myself.

I just want a list of these future kits. I can be patient for releases, but I need to know what wonderful things are coming our way from Mr. Nelson.
