While I do think that the posting of a TR after only a few days is premature, it is indeed suspicious that he has stopped communications with all of you right after recieving the money. I actually had a deal going for a few items on his ad that was stopped dead in its tracks when I insisted that he, as a low post user with ZERO feedback at the swap shop or bartertown, ship first prior to payment. He actually accused me of trying to pull something shadey on him by asking that (even after I linked the swap mod trading recommendations thread to him that mentions it). He frankly seemed like a tween that had just discovered the "free" money of online trading so I told him that a person with thousands of posts and over 50 successful trades over 5+ years on trading sites isn't likely to try a scam as the profile of a scammer is usually a new user with low posts and little to no rep (like him incidentally). When he wouldn't budge, I called off the whole thing as I simply had a bad feeling about the deal. If he in addition is asking people to pay him as gifts, that definitely blings again on my early warning radar.

I've found that the best way to get a person who was previously communicative to respond after they start ignoring you is to put a hold on their money. It's worked wonders for me on ebay a couple of times when stuff wasn't shipped for 3 weeks after payment. While I joke frequently that online trading/buying is the worst possible thing you could do to your family judging from the number of "family emergencies" that pop up once someone gets your money, not everyone can check dakka daily. That said, the lack of communication is worriesome and I'd put a hold on the payments (assuming they weren't gifts) and see if that spurs a response.

As for sending things as a gift, I do send payments as gifts when people ship first a small thank you and also if the person I'm trading with is trustworthy (namely more rep than me with no TRs or bad trader reports). I've found that a little common sense in trading goes a long way.

The common story between 4 Dakka users as to the sudden drop off in communication straight after money dispatch means that this thread will stay open, but it should be reminded that usually a week or two should be granted for someone to reply before taking things to a Transaction Report. This is because sometimes life does kick in, and you are unable to meet your obligations immediately.

That said, I have now messaged the user involved, and directed him to address the concerns raised in this thread. If we have no response for a further week or so, then discussion will be permitted as to what the next step of those involved should do in order to begin retrieval of their funds. Having said that however, if you are now concerned, and are able to put a hold on the money through paypal/credit cards/whatever payment type you used, you should of course, feel to do so at your own discretion at any time.

It would be appreciated if all posting in this thread from this point on is restricted to relevant data/information exchanges between the parties involved. I recognise that sometimes veteran traders wish to advise their fellow traders with regards to safer swapshop trading procedures, but its early days yet, and there's no need as of the moment to jump to hasty conclusions.

So just an update here. I have not heard back from this individual and I have initiated a dispute with paypal. It will be 3 days before I can escalate this to a claim, which I will do at that time. I do not have this individual's information, aside from the email address provided. If anyone else has this information can you please PRIVATE MESSAGE this to me so that I can contact his police department if necessary.

Same to me please. I initiated a claim Thursday and will be home Monday when I will pursue further action if nothing has happened.

I paid this guy $16 on 05NOV2011 for 1 Chimera shipped via paypal "gift" as he requested. I've pm'ed him 3 times sense then because I requested a tracking #. No responce from him. No chimera in the mail.

I received the following from him this morning and I sent the following response. No additional information has yet been provided.

How were they shipped? Do you have a tracking number? If not do you at least have a receipt you can show me? I would like some form of proof that these have been shipped other than your word at this point in time.

I shipped them using the standard mail service, priority would have cost around $20.00 so that was unfeasible. I can get you a snapshot of a bank statement showing that I paid at a post office Friday.

Regardless, I think that you should all enter in your own separate transaction reports instead of piling it into a single one. If he's jeopardizing 4 separate trades, he should have 4 separate reports as they're listed that way in the BTR list.

Update here. I received the items at my house yesterday. I cannot comment as to their condition or completeness as I am away for training, but my wife opened it and generally described what I was expecting. The postmark on the outside of the box showed they were shipped on 10NOV 2011, which was 5 days after the stated shipping date and 2 days after the transaction report was opened. At this point I consider my transaction report settled, and will leave it up to the MODs to determine if this thread remains open. Regardless of the outcome, I believe the seller should take note of good customer service practices. We all know things come up, unavoidable things, but simple communicaton takes care of that, especially when we can see a person is/has been online but still not responding to update requests.

We will leave this TR open until all transactions have been completed to the satisfaction of the parties involved. In answer to the question posted above and for future reference, if there are multiple disputes arising from the same user, please keep them all in a single TR so there is a single point of reference for a particular user and that can be linked easily within the TR sticky.

Does anyone who received their shipment from him have the address information from their package? I didn't think about it until now and have since disposed of mine. If you do PM this information to Newtoncain, at least this way he might be able to contact the police department in his area. Have you tried to start a dispute with paypal?

I would contact Paypal and request some additional information about him. Since he is a verified user, they should have some reliable information on him. I would just contact customer service, explain the situation, show them your evidence and see what happens. If they provide you with any details, contact the relevant police department.

Newtoncain, have you tried PM'ing all the users from this thread who dealt with this person to see if they have an address / additional contact info?

I am on leave for christmas exodus, but I have the address back at Ft. Bragg. However, he had a friend ship the stuff and the name and address on the package is not his. But if you want to pressure him by aggravating one of his friends I can give it to you.

quickfuze- I think that would be a really good idea, sometimes getting in touch with a persons' friend motivates them to follow through on the deal (soas not to look untrustworthy to their friend).

Obviously, the address needs to be sent via PM and not posted in this thread... but I would definitely try that.

2012 and this guys is still being used monthly to soak up blood. Still no contact. I'm closing my case because the $16 is not worth the effort any longer. Worst of luck canthatenuff.

Don't close your case, not till he gets banned from Dakka, or have reasonable (late) response.

The last thing we want is for this to be forgotten and his account active and still trades behind the scene when this TR has been buried...

I agree with Luna. As somebody who frequently trades on Dakka, this is my worst nightmare. Dealing with somebody like this can ruin trading for somebody.

you can get his friend's adress, contact the local authorities, and with pressure from the police even, his friend will give him up!
If you reach a point where you can no longer engage the original seller, try engaging the friend! I can't be 100% but I think the friend
can be charged in the aiding of criminal/illegal activities!

It is waaaay past time to contact his local police department and file a complaint. Yup, 17 dollars, but when you combine it with all the other stuff he was pulling it adds up. It costs you nothing to do this, but can cost him much more than he owes you and sends him and others a message not to steal.
