I've only seen the misshapen blobs in grey - if they are indeed the same figs (just painted) in the box of 5, then so be it.

I'm playing ONE WHFB army at club level.
Mantic was a cheap way to do it (EVEN cheaper than using IoB).
I don't care for any of the IoB models, and requirement to only use GW models does not exist in my club.

Oh I wasnt trying to piss in your coffee mate I was just letting you know that they are different scales. I got burned really bad when I bought a box of normal spearmen to boost my IoB units out to a decent size and found that the normal were tiny in comparison.

As for the mantic stuff I cant blame anyone in our country for trying to avoid paying for GW stuff like the plague we get screwed and the more folk that support companys like mantic the better our gaming scene in Oz will be.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

No worries.

The only reason people at my club are even taking up WHFB is because of mantic.

With an (mantic) undead, dwarf and two elf armies out of the 9 total WHFB armies, that leaves the IoB Rats and HE (2 v 1), Ogres - but the ogre player rarely turns up anymore - and lizardmen (but the lizardmen are two editions old and from a player returning to gaming because he found a local club - ironically, we play in the place where he works.

I am stoked to hear that your club is embracing mantic =) and that the newy warhammer scene is starting to recover from all the folk who left when 8th dropped.

~$1000 CAD for 1500pts. Seven valkyries/vendettas and two vultures, plus infantry.

Funny, I made an Elysian Army list myself just the day before yesterday:

- Command HQ
- 10 Storm Troopers with Valk
- Platoon A with Command Squad, 3 Squads and a Heavy Weapon Squad
- Platoon B with Command Squad, 3 Squads and two Drop Sentinals
- 10 Veterans with Valk
- 3 Tauros Venator with 3 Transpor Valks

1500 pts (2000 with the Valks)
roughly 1000 €

__________________________________________

But it's more likely that I'll shell out that money for my Death Korps. Here's what I'm hoping to field after the next few big orders:

- Command HQ with Heavy Bolter (27 £ + 17 £)
- Quartermaster (27 £)

- Grenadier Centaur with Heavy Flammer and 2 Flamers (42 £ + maybe 20 £ more for conversion)
- 3 Heavy Mortars (88,50 £)
- 3 Thudd Guns (97,50 £)

- Platoon with Command Squad, 4 Squads, 1 Heavy Weapon Squad (182 £)
- Platoon with Command Squad, 4 Squads, 1 Heavy Weapon Squad (182 £)

- Engineer Squad of 10 with Mole Launcher and Hades Breaching Drill (69 £)
- Engineer Squad of 9 with Mole Launcher (42 £)

- Engineer Squad of 10 with Mole Launcher and Hades Breaching Drill (69 £)
- Engineer Squad of 9 with Mole Launcher (42 £)

- Death Rider Squad of 10 (125 £)
- Death Rider Squad of 10 (125 £)
- Death Rider Squad of 10 (125 £)

- Medusa Siege Gun Battery (256 £)
- Earthshaker Cannon Battery (256 £)

- 3 Leman Russ (156 £)

1700 £ exactly

Good thing I have roughly half of the models. Unfortunately the most expensive ones are missing.

It was only a bunch of die-hard 7th ed vets who bailed. They took up WM (uni students) or FoW (older guys).
8th ed has had a resurgence (we held a 20 player 2 day tournament over the weekend - a couple of Sydney players came first and second - ETC players, as well) in WHFB overall, probably thanks to mantics army boxes.

(We may be a couple of hours from Sydney, but we don't restrict who enters or plays by postcode. We had 7 out-of towners, and the rest were locals.).

Can't deny that WM and other games have also used the embargo to claw back some players from GW's clutches, though. Not before time.

And now we even have a new independent FLGS open in town.
And it's even closer than the GW, with room for 6 full size 6x4 tables not just 2 4x4s.

I know I was supposed to make the trip to attend thunderstomp =( but life got in the way again.

Newy gamesworkshop is a hole (even for a GW store) so I am glad to hear you guys got a good indy FLGS and I look forward to checking it out next time I am in newy.

Just keep holding those tournaments so I can bring a car load of forster boyz down to throwdown against our novocastrian brothers.

Also I was so surprised to see you guys hold tournys in Greta from time to time (its my town of origin)

Ah, you're THAT guy ...

(Had a conversation with "the patron" (Jan) and she mentioned someone making comments like yours.)

It was Jan who found that hall - the caretaker used to be her son's Godmother. It's a good venue - large, airy, with a kitchen, close to a pub (main selling point - we get teams of players scheming to book out the pub first every year).

Good Games Newcastle is the new FLGS. I met Jason (the boss) yesterday, and he's a nice bloke. Room in the store for around 16 tables if you push it. I will be a regular given time.

Ouch...I think after reading all this that GW needs to lower it's prices...I mean surely they can lower them slightly...increasing their customer base while still keeping a profit???

I can't be bothered to detail the exact list but I did make some tentative enquiries into getting a 2500 point DKOK army (all my 40K armies are 2500 points at a minimum). I quickly gave up when the price was the thick end of £1000...

They have a shrinking customer base. So they think to make the same money, they need to raise prices. They don't believe that lowered prices will increase sales. They will continue with their regular "price adjustments" for the foreseeable future.

To not completely derail the thread, I priced out my Cryx stuff (about 70 points) and it was $300. I can make a ton of very different 35 point armies with that stuff. GW has gone into crazy land when it comes to the cost of a complete full sized game.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

My most expensive army to date is my original 4th ed Chaos Dwarf army. Lucky, I've gotten a few good trades here and there, but this is about the cost of the army if I had to do it all in cash:
2275.00
Lord on Taurus
Sorcerer Lord on Lammasu
Sorcerer on foot
3 Chaos Dwarf Heroes on foot
2 Hobgoblin heroes on foot
1 Hobgoblin Hero on wolf
14 Chaos Dwarf Warriors w/Great Weapons
75 Chaos Dwarf Warriors
100 Hobgoblins w/HWS
15 Hobgoblins w/bows
12 Hobgoblins on wolves
50 Sneaky Gits
4 Hobgoblin Bolt Throwers
2 Death Rockets
2 Earth Shaker cannons
12 Bull Centaurs

Cause the chicks dig it...

My next army is preparing for the new Tau codex, getting my hands on all of the existing units so next year I get to spend all my money on the exciting new kits. Luckily, there's a lot of people selling old tau armies cheap.

Over the last year, I've bought:

3 Devilfish
2 Hammerheads
5 XV8 crisis suits
1 XV8 commander
2 XV88 Broadsides
9 stealth suits
4 piranhas
12 kroot
around 70 Fire Warriors
who knows how many drones

For a combined total of about £140 from local sellers and ebay. I bought 3 devilfish, a piranha, 3 stealth suits, 12 kroot and 24 fire warriors for £50, and the 5 crisis suits + broadsides (plus more fire warriors) for another £45. I got three piranhas for £18 and the second hammerhead for £15. Then I spent £10 on Fairy Power Spray and Dettol to clean the paint off them all.

I hate to think what it would have cost me new. A quick glance online gives me an estimate of about £400. As I see it, that's £250 saved to spend on new suits, demiurge and other goodies in a few months time...
