AV12 ain't bad, though, even without a KFF. If Looted Wagons were AV12 on the front, I'd take 3 of them, and only take Battlewagons in Dedicated Transport slots.

Ok, now that I am done with the battle report between my Draigowing and Reece's Necrons (battle report here), I can concentrate on finishing up this battle report. It will be out early tomorrow.

Thanks for the patience, guys and gals.

While I don't consider myself a tournament player, I do see myself as a battle hardened general.

BigGreen wrote:Haha that is a weird Necron list from you jy2. Its going to comedown to die rolls. I know that is a silly thing to say for a game revolving around dice however with the Necrons limited long range shooting to take down vehicles before they become a threat, and a KFF to help negate a lot of those hits that do get in, it will depend on how the dice lie. The Scarabs will be a nightmare for those Battle Wagons, just gatta hope they dont all get taken down with one round of Burna shooting. Just looking at the lists I would give this to the Ork player. However I know that Jy2 is a good player and I dont know the other player. So I guess we will just have to wait and see how it all turns out. Considering I play both Orks and Necrons I dont know who I want to win. >.< Lets just hope for no draw!!!

I'm sure you've played against my opponent before.....Devin. He says he's been playing a lot against your necrons recently. Well, at least now I know he's had experience against the new necrons.

Overall, he is a decent player who knows his army and his rules.

I thought with scarabs a andom model is hit....? I keep seeing that as rolling to see which model you hit

Correct. The first time, there were 2 models in base, the nob and 1 regular boy. I rolled and got the nob.

The second time, it was a regular boy that struck at his own unit.

Where I made the mistake was rolling for how many hits (D3) and then rolling to hit after that that. It was a step I didn't need to do.

Yeah, those command barges are sweet. Probably my 2nd favorite unit in the codex, with the first being the scarabs.

Great battle report. I was wondering, though, should the Scarabs who destroyed the 2 Battlewagons in Necron Turn 3 not have gotten a consolidation move? I thought that was only after combat resolution, and assaulting vehicles is not close combat. I could be wrong.

They were in assault with the ork boys also (they multi-charged 3 units). When those orks broke, then they got to consolidate.

Great report again Jy2, thank you for taking the time to do these.

I am curious about how you played the command barge. When you move flat out immobilized results go immediately to wrecked. There has been some debate in YMDC as to whether you can use Symbiotic Repair to remove the result before it is destroyed.

Any thoughts?

I'm not aware of the controversies regarding this move. I thought the codex was pretty clear and simple. He can take 1W to negate any immobilized or weapon destroyed result. IMO, he should be able to do this before the vehicle becomes a wreck. The way I see it, it's like you fail your armour save (become immobilized) but get a FNP save (symbiote repair) before the model finally dies (wrecked). That's the analogy I would use.

Coming right up.

Post-Game Analysis:
I felt that I had to play very aggressively to have any hope of winning this one. If I could not stop his mobility early on, then I wouldn't be able to prevent him from capturing his objective and contesting mine. So I sent my HQ, wraiths and scarabs after his vehicles. I knew they wouldn't survive, but that's ok. My goal was to delay my opponent and tie him up after I wrecked his vehicles. Backing them up would be my spyders and even my extra units of immortals.

I did not want the fight to happen near my objective. I wanted it to happen near his. This is what I mean by positional advantage (or positional dominance/supremacy). You want to establish good position and to dictate were the conflict will take place, and not let your opponent be the one to do so. So the main conflict happens near his objective where I can more easily contest it. I just have to ride it out and make sure he doesn't wipe out my units. You do this by slowly adding more "wood to the fire". Assault in phases and use screening units. Initial assault were the wraiths. Then Anrakyr joined in. Then the spyders. All this time, I was able to hold him up by his objective. Thus only his objective was endangered. Mine never was. Then if you've noticed, I moved my immortals up in waves, screening off his path towards my objective and forcing him to assault me. I never was expecting to kill his orks, only to try to stay in contesting range and stop him from advancing towards my objective.

But all this is moot if I couldn't stop his mobility, meaning I had to stop his wagons. The 1st strategy was to block his path. I did that by immobilizing 1 trukk and wrecking the other with my wraiths. Then when he assaulted me with his orks, I was glad. That meant his wagons had to go around and gave me more time to try to take them out. The command barge is just an awesome unit at taking out vehicles. He did not disappoint. And then my true MVP's, my scarabs, did their job. They killed 2 battlewagons and eliminated 1 unit of 20 orks. I could not have hoped for a better performance from this 150pt unit. Truly outstanding. After taking out all his mobility, it was just a matter of trying to tie him up by his objective and trying to survive his assault.

Overall, I think I was able to win this one because I was playing the mission while my opponent was playing against the army. Yeah, he killed my important units, but in his bloodlust, he lost sight of the mission objective.

Good Report.

I knew to win this game you would need to quickly get in the Ork player's face with wraiths and scarabs and stop the transports. You did this well.

I see. In this case, I'm going to go for the pro-SR-negate-immobilized/wrecked-going-flat-out intepretation because 1) they make a good case and 2) that's how I think the RAI is. I don't think there's much more I can add that haven't already been said. I do agree that getting wrecked is a result of being immobilised. I don't think the matter of timing (i.e. immediately) is as important as the fact that there is a cause-and-effect relationship. Negate the cause, and the is no need for the effect.

Nice game. I was surprised at the result. Looking at the speed of the Orks it would have been easy to see how they could just move up quickly and keep you locked down on your side the table. Fortunately that didn't happen.

Do you think it would have been a completely different story had the Orks got first turn?

wow frusttrating game. The ork player had all the mobility but he got bogged down so quickly. This report reminds me why I alwayas fill my fast attack with buggies, just one squad of buggies would have ruined your whole plan!

I was highly dissapointed with the performance of the burnas. But they really lose a lot of punch after their ride is busted. the ork player should have deployed his 20 man squad of boys to take the scarab charge rather than all his armor.

Well played game Jy2, it just seemed like getting bogged down so effectively could have been prevented.(Magic dice!)

Very interesting outcome; well-played, Jim! Battlewagon Orks are extremely difficult for foot lists to handle; the speed of the Scarabs & Wraiths (and the advantage of Dawn of War deployment) let you dictate the location of the battle, and that is essential in Capture & Control.

The Ork players should have deployed closer to the left board edge, closer to both objectives. If he kept his Meganobz closer to the rest of his Boyz, he would have stood a better chance.

Excellent job jy2 with the Scarabs, Anrakyr, and Command Barge. You were quite lucky with the lone Nob failing a moral test at the bottom of 7.

Thanks for sharing!
