Dreadnought is complete after a lot of bad mistakes. I sprayed him white then washed him badab black, followed by drybrushing him white. Looked quite nice, but wasn't brown enough, so weathered him with some Forge World pigments (which I've never used before!) It did look very nice, but far too dark, so I drybrushed it white again. Eventually it looked OK, but all the layers of paint have kinda taken the detail out on a lot of places (such as the eagle in the middle) sadly. It's passable though for sure, but I'm still not sure how to do whites on vehicles, so I'm really puzzled on how to do my Land Raider. Any suggestions are welcome.

On second thoughts, I think the reason this didn't totally turn out the way I wanted it too is because there's not enough gold on too much white... maybe.

Criticism welcome

Now please don't immolate me, but I'm about to offer some constructive criticism. The white on your ordinary marines becomes white to cleanly(rather then looking like chipped paint it seems as though a half hearted techpreist has slapped an additional coat of paint over and older worn one) I would suggest that you drop the wash altogether and resort to just drybrushing several coats of a consecutively brighter white over a very dark basecoat. If you did this the transition would appear more smooth and look more like worn and faded paint overall. I realise that my method would be time consuming than what you are currently doing but i think it would give better results.
If my advice offends you in anyway please inform me.
Cheers,
Four

Your criticism is welcome I will try out your idea on a spare marine I have. My only concern is that the white will look worn rather than dirty, which is what I originally had in mind.

Additionally, here's some lore I wrote for them. Probably full of holes... but I think I like it.

The Suffering Servants chapter

The Suffering Servants are a fleet based-chapter of unknown founding origin. Though the chapter archives insist that they are descendants of the Dark Angels chapter, the Dark Angels themselves refute any such claims - perhaps not wanting to be identified with this unorthodox chapter, or perhaps a sign of foulplay with Imperial Records. None alive know.

The Suffering Servants are afflicted with a peculiar disorder via a flaw within their Gene-seed - their Catalepsean node causes undesired effects on areas of the brain, causing marines of this chapter to have an overwhelming sense of guilt-driven duty. The flaw within the Gene-seed causes a Suffering Servant to find it difficult to distinguish between his own actions and those of other, similar beings (in this case - other marine chapters). Thus, each and every Suffering Servant feels the pain, shame and guilt of the failures of other chapters. Such a disorder is the reason for the unusually depleted chapter strength - The Suffering Servants are always fighting battles and serving penance for failures that are not theirs - even in the face of foes they know they have no hope in defeating.

The chapter wears antiquated armour, long since robbed of its once astonishing golds and flawless whites, now dirty and tarnished. Maintenance is rarely performed upon the armour - the Servants not believing they have earned it. The Chapter Masters of the servants are known as the Grand Martyrs and are promoted from any rank based on their selflessness and perseverance. The majority die particularly young, even by space marine standards, by virtue of their tendency to attempt overly heroic feats - most of which are unsuccessful. The current Grand Martyr is Lenconius Celeritas, and has held the position for roughly 23 years - making him the second-longest serving Grand Martyr in recorded chapter history.

They maintain poor relationships with most other chapters due to their reckless behaviour, but many admire them for their acts of courage - foolish though many of them may be. The chapter is also in possession of a Contemptor Dreadnought - a gift they claim was bestowed upon them by the Imperial Fists after successfully thwarting an Ork Waaagh that threatened a planet under their control. The Imperial Fists recall no such event, and, indeed, still hold dominion over all of their Contemptor Dreadnoughts - a fact proven by the toll of a hundred battles.

Woah, I could care less for 40k normally, but that color scheme looks awesome! I might have to steal the scheme for one of my next WoC armies!

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

I like the base for him. they are looking very nice. I was wandering, I want too order a Forge World Contemptor Dreadnought but it says that they come without the arms in the pics, so do they come with out any arms at all, not even CC arms?

I'm afraid you have to buy both arms. You can get a claw or a fist as a CC arm. It makes the entire thing about 50pounds, with postage.

I like the basis of the paint scheme though think there is a little too much gold on those marines.

Overall quality is nice and I really like those bases.

Great models, great fluff, and great all around

I think mixing in pre-heresy/heresy/etc style bits (FW armours/bolters/special weapons and maxmini steam night heads) would help accentuate the "Antiquated" idea you are going for.

Just a thought
