It's funny that you happen to do all those things and still get hacked, I'll give you that. Also funny that I take precautions and never get hacked, which one would think might happen if Blizzard had a leak. Just saying.

I go through periods of inactivity on WoW... and the problem seems to happen following my accepting Blizzard's offer for free time.

The hackers send out spoofed 'come back to WoW with 7 days free' emails that send you to a link that captures your login info. Sure you didn't click on one by mistake?

We get exactly what you are saying, helgrenze. But, just like the OP who claims they did absolutely nothing to get hacked, it is just very unlikely that someone did nothing wrong and their WOW account got hacked.

This.

You never get hacked. You get your info stolen and then someone just walks into your account.

I've never had my account info stolen, though it is possible that I may have had breaches on games I don't care about any more. Not like I'm using that info anymore.

Anyway, I heard reports that the Blizzard launcher itself can be spoofed or hacked. See here:

OK, the news is a bit old but the process is the same- what you think is the genuine launcher and Blizzard site, isn't.

My old account was hacked, thanks to my brother inlaw adding a bunch of addons when he came over once. For some stupid reason my wife said "sure!" and let him do it. So word of advice, dont EVER use those addons, they are merely there to screw you, I dont care how safe they or the website you get them from seem.

I've been using them for four years with no issue, about fifteen on my main server. A fella in the guild uses about fifty, I have no idea why that many.

The main thing is to get them from Curse and Curse alone, don't trust any other site, and I tend to use those with good feedback and a lot of users.

I've played for 7 years and have had as many as 4 active accounts (only payed for 2 of them at anytime though, pro tip: you can RAF yourself ;D) and never been hacked.

I've used Recount, Omen, a couple other types of damage meters, DBM, a questing mod, multiple UI interfaces and never had a problem.

Yea he got them from Curse, and said the exact same thing to my wife. The very next day, I was hacked like a mofo. So go ahead and keep on using them if you want, I learned my lesson in less then 24 hours

Bear in mind, that Curse itself has been hacked and infected several times over the years.

Yeah, download addons manually, never use the stupid curse download thing.

Aye the auto downloader is pretty much evil.. manual only and virus check with malware bytes every file before I open it.

But the response was pretty good from blizzard. And I don't see whats wrong with there account security, especially since they offer that thingy, I know it costs a little bit of money, but if your that worried about it....

It was only 6 bucks when I bought one.
